I'd forgotten all about Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland until I read this piece about it. And then wondered how I could've forgotten as it was huge! And those were the days before social media!

I never realised that Michelle Pfeiffer played a conciliatory role or that the wedding cake apparently spoke to a tabloid reporter!

What are some scandals you remember from that period? (I'm housebound with Covid - humour me!)

Mandy Smith and Bill Wyman , married when she was 18 , he was 52 , they met when she was 13 .

The worst thing about that was that all the tabs had big pictures of him in his nice nanna jumpers. It was an upsetting juxtaposition.

Oh god the Mandy Smith story was terrible. The entire reporting was that she was a "wild child". Yes, a child, the word is right there, so he's a fucking paedophile.

The 90s really was the heyday of royal scandals. Harry and Meghan's antics are nothing compared to Fergie's toes, Diana's men or Tampax Charlie.

Wasn’t Andrew also in the news in the 90s? He divorced in the 90s (quite a media dust up), met Epstein in the 90s and had Epstein & Maxwell as guests at Balmoral in 1999.
After Maxwell’s conviction, he now claims they aren’t close friends. Well, of course not. If it weren’t for that photo of Andrew & Epstein in Central Park, Andrew would be claiming he’d never met the man.

I remember when Madonna's "Sex" book came out, it was shocking! My friend bought it with her birthday money and her Dad asked her to show him what she had bought and she very sheepishly showed him pages of black and white photos of Madonna naked in chains.

that was the 2000s, i think she was pretty clean cut until around 2006ish after she married kf.

Currently reading Piers Morgan's The Insider book as it covers his time as an editor/journalist in the 90s to the end of 2004. At that time I was 10 to 20ish and it's a real eye opener and full of random secrets and crap of people I didn't even really register at the time (politicians etc and other older people). Stuff about royalty as well as celebs.

Also read Freak Like Me which is about the pop music celeb gossip of around the same time by someone who got close to various popstsrs as a teen/early 20s by going to SMTV and totp etc.

Its been fun to relive the nostalgic time for me which was really my favourite decade & a half, purely because I was so young and it was a different world.
