Celeb scandals of the 90s

I'd forgotten all about Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland until I read this piece about it. And then wondered how I could've forgotten as it was huge! And those were the days before social media!

I never realised that Michelle Pfeiffer played a conciliatory role or that the wedding cake apparently spoke to a tabloid reporter!

What are some scandals you remember from that period? (I'm housebound with Covid - humour me!)

As a 16 year old finding out my beloved Freddie Mercury had AIDS then the very next day he died. The newspapers never had a good word to say about him and totally jumped on who he had been with, his sexuality, looking back no wonder he hated the tabloids.

Yeah Kylie's new much lauded sophisticated image which was all tied up with her finally getting a good lay. Michael Hutchence was hot. Such a tragedy what happened with the head injury and everything.

Iirc he had eaten a load of jacket spuds, felt unwell, opened the car door to lean out and chunder.

Somehow he fell out and under the wheels, causing really serious injuries. I think drugs/alcohol may have played a part. He was really badly hurt so not so funny really.

@Nohypocrate I've no fucking clue but that was his story. Something about how potatoes release chemicals that make you high so when he was driving (v slowly apparently) he fell out of his door and ran himself over.

I don't think he was eating a potato at the time which would have been a more convincing explanation (surprised by sudden microwave hot spots causing falling over etc, that's the line I would have gone for anyway.)
