fatchilli123 · 31/01/2022 17:47

We need lots of books 😉 sorry I will rephrase ... I need lots of books 😜 .

I get top ups for my phone 🤨🤔 ?
Am still trying to find a record needle too 😭

RaraRachael · 31/01/2022 17:52

I still use a USB stick for work. I use a laptop at home as I can't type quickly on a phone and don't like looking at a tiny screen - I'd never watch any entertainment on a phone either. I have Alexa built in to my TV but have never used it. I was quite intrigued when Alexa failed recently and people's lives ground to a halt Confused.

Yes, I am a dinosaur and happy!

Payitforward55 · 31/01/2022 17:52

Hair colour

mirabellemadrigal · 31/01/2022 18:01

@ouch321

I had a Netflix acc in 2012!

Fluffmum · 31/01/2022 18:02

Torches

I love the idea of less physical stuff BUT when I buy books I usually pick them up in charity shops, read them, then pass them on or give them back to be sold again. If I only bought new books, Kindle would be great, as it is mine just gathers dust except for a couple of classics on there and some of the 99p deals that looked good.

I won't part with my Disney DVDs as I have most of the animated films, I'm concerned that cancel culture might result in the streamed versions being removed or changed. ( Adjustments have been made already, such as removing the clip at the end of toy story 2 where Stinky Pete is making suggestive comments to Barbie). I do actually squirm a bit at Peter Pan's "red man" song, also it depicts smoking so two reasons that it wouldn't be made like that now - the native Americans are key parts in the story so you can't just cut their scene, will the whole thing go one day? It's all a bit Orwellian, like we are the donkey in Animal Farm noticing that the pigs' sign has changed. Or history being rewritten in 1984.

bellocchild · 31/01/2022 18:03

We still have a DVD player for boxed sets. Got those out when discovered some of them were coming in at £1.69 per episode on streaming when we had the whole lot stashed in the loft...

KarenJustes · 31/01/2022 18:05

back in 2012, i had 5 kids!

Pemba · 31/01/2022 18:07

Why hair colour? I was just about to go up and dye my hair with a kit actually, not done it for ages. What makes you say that, Payitforward55?

Callipygion · 31/01/2022 18:11

Fuck, this is making me feel really really old. I still buy CDs, DVDs, books, and do phone top ups, and am transferring music onto my iPod as I type! 😳

Housemum · 31/01/2022 18:14

I'm guessing dying hair your "normal" colour is less of a necessity now. I've chosen to go grey rather than keep dying my hair brown, as have a lot of people. Dying your hair a different colour (highlights or funky colours or grey if you're a 20 something!) is still a thing
Queenbee77 · 31/01/2022 18:17

When america turn off the internet for us we will beed out books.......it may happen.

DottyHarmer · 31/01/2022 18:17

@Houseman - I have a bunch of Disney VHSs as even some of the dvds were “pruned”. The good news is that the original cartoons can be found on YouTube (for now…).

SquirrelG · 31/01/2022 18:17

Or scrolling through at the time you use it to find the right code to scan, eg to pay on transport, show a boarding pass to get on a flight etc. Just looks such a complete faff.

Exactly. And, something I find really irritating - someone decides to show you a photo on their phone, so you sit there for 10 minutes while they go through the hundreds they have and still can't find it!

Plus if you lost your phone, broke the screen or the battery went flat, you'd be totally screwed.

Indeed. I just can't be bothered with relying on something so fragile.

Queenbee77 · 31/01/2022 18:17

Need...even...soz.....children jumping

pollymere · 31/01/2022 18:21

I think we buy far less stuff like clothes and shoes. Also fewer Easter eggs etc. I feel Lockdown has made us realize what is important and what we don't really need.

Payitforward55 · 31/01/2022 18:21

I just can't be bothered with the chemicals anymore. My hair grows really light I'm just letting it do its thing. Still straighten it and style it but it's much healthier

chocolateorangeinhaler · 31/01/2022 18:22

To leave the house.

Wfh and everything now delivered. We're all heading towards being in our own little prison cells.

Ophicleide · 31/01/2022 18:23

@grapewine

They will take my books over my dead body.

I don't have TV channels anymore, though.

Agreed.

I don't have a TV, so there are no channels to worry about.

I still use a landline, and a hi-fi system with FM radio and a CD player.

I don't have a smarphone so often pay in cash. I go shopping every day for fresh food (can't bear to stay in).

2012 wasn't that long ago...

Gwenhwyfar · 31/01/2022 18:23

@AppleKatie

Landline (although maybe I was a late ditcher!)

I’d already ditched dvds by then and CDs were just for the car.

Never had a landline as an adult. Went straight to mobile 20 years ago.
Gwenhwyfar · 31/01/2022 18:25

@CrimbleCrumble1

Cash is a good one, I literally only use cash for tips.
I need cash to split bills when I go out with friends. Many places will let us pay separately with our own cards, but not everywhere. Also for the laundrette, but all the cash machines near me are closing down!
