How many times did you have sex to fall pregnant?

Posting for traffic, been TTC and nothing.

So how many times did you have to have sex the month you fell pregnant?

I cannot do daily sex no matter how hard I try. Even every other day tails off mid month it's just too much.

But if this is what we have to do then we have to do it.

Can you please comment to let me know the frequency of your sex the month you fell pregnant?

With our daughter we were trying for two months, having sex about 4/5 times a week.

This current pregnancy? I was on the mini pill so wasn't even trying.

washingmachines4 · 30/01/2022 12:22

To be honest, the answers you'll get here probably won't help you. You'll probably get a range between twice a day every day and only the once and it happened just as a one off for each of my 6 children - ok that might be an exaggeration! Some people do it more than others, some people enjoy it more than others and generally people find doing it for a 'purpose' is less great than the spontaneous kind.

I would say it sounds like you would benefit from targeting you dates - get ovulation tests and then go at least once a day for 2-3 days after a positive ovulation test. You don't have to go for the pricey ones, they do ones that are about 60 tests for £17 on amazon. Then you can get away with only 2-3 times a month if you don't want more and still have the best chances

Soontobe60 · 30/01/2022 12:24

Sorry to be so pedantic, but you only need to have sex once to fall pregnant.
For me, I was trying for 2 years with DD1, and 1 month for dd2. Every other day mid cycle.

Do you track when you ovulate? I would take my temperature every morning as that really helped. I didn't get on with ovulation tests themselves as i never got a positive.
The month i got pregnant we dtd the day before and the day of ovulation, and outside of ovulation it was more like every other day.

Mich1986 · 30/01/2022 12:32

Have you tried using ovulation calculator so you can find out your most fertile week? Then just have sex every other day during that week.

Amber345 · 30/01/2022 12:32

Twice that month. We'd been trying for fifteen months, had our initial fertility appointment and decided that month to forget about it. The baby we conceived then is now 6 weeks old. But like others say it can only take having sex once at the right time so please don't stress about doing it daily x

LavenderBlue95 · 30/01/2022 12:32

Strangely the first time we decided we would like to try for a baby. I must have been ovulation at the exact time. Have you tried tracking your ovulation?

BelieveInRainbows · 30/01/2022 12:34

Do you track ovulation? Might help rather than doing every other day etc as you could make sure you do it mostly in your window to maximise your chances, less likelihood of being burnt out by then.

For my current pregnancy (3rd baby, 5th pregnancy), we were having sex the day before ovulation, day of ovulation, and the day after ovulation. The 2 days after if we could be bothered! Absolutely nothing for 18 months. The month I got pregnant we had only had sex once on the day of ovulation. It's a game of luck, but your ovulation window is what counts the most.

Blossomtoes · 30/01/2022 12:35

Twice. I was 20 at peak fertility so it’s hardly a surprise.

Chely · 30/01/2022 12:37

Twice in the month of conception with our youngest. Getting pregnant is easy for us but we have lost several early on so not all sunshine and rainbows.

TheSandgroper · 30/01/2022 12:41

Sorry. Only ever tried the once (one child). It was just me saying. “now is a good time to give it a go”.

veevee04 · 30/01/2022 12:45

Sorry the one time my OH didn't withdraw I got pregnant . I was younger though DD is 8 I'm 28 and I'm wondering if it will be as easy when we TTC 2 don't think it will be.

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 30/01/2022 12:49

Twice, came off the pill one period, had sex twice, got pregnant. It wasn't any more than that because DH had to go away for work and we weren't really trying at that stage just came off the pill after we got married, thought it would take a while for my body to settle down, especially as I have PCOS, but happened straight away. You shouldn't force yourself to have sex to have a baby, just have your normal levels and it'll happen when it happens

Flowersandbread · 30/01/2022 12:49

How long have you been ttc op?

I honestly couldn't tell you, I never really considered myself "trying". Dh and I just had sex when we wanted to because we wanted sex. Probably an average of 3 times a week. Took 3months with first and got pregnant 1st month with second

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 30/01/2022 12:50

I was 34

toastofthetown · 30/01/2022 12:50

YABU. There’s a well used conception topic which posters who have difficulty conceiving or those who had had to accept that it will never happen for them are able to hide.

Ilikeviognier · 30/01/2022 12:50

Sorry but echo the poster who said responses won’t help. It varies so much between people and even between children with TTC. I went for the sex every other day for around 10 days mid cycle approach.

winstonsfinger · 30/01/2022 13:05

All the professional advice we've had says 2-3 times a week consistently throughout the month, each month.

If you're managing that and haven't fallen pregnant after 12 months, that's when it's suggested you seek further investigation. Unless you're over 35 or diagnosed with something such as PCOS or Endometriosis, in which case they advise only leaving it 6 months before seeing a doctor.

TenoringBehind · 30/01/2022 13:05

Took 8 years with dc1. One month and a lot of wine with dc2.

TenoringBehind · 30/01/2022 13:08

Tracking ovulation is key I think (but no guarantee of success of course). I always knew exactly when I was ovulating.

GrandTheftWalrus · 30/01/2022 13:08

No idea with dd1 as dh had just moved in and we were making the most of it.

Mmc - think once or twice.

Dd2 - once.

4th - once.

This was after many many tests etc with exdh and never even got a positive test!

careerchangemaybe · 30/01/2022 13:10

Once in that month. I was tracking ovulation very closely though after coming off the pill.

betwixtlives · 30/01/2022 13:10

…do you know you can’t get pregnant for most of the month?

Whattochoosenow · 30/01/2022 13:11

For our first it was regularly for a whole year. We gave up “trying” and decided to relax a bit and let things take their course.
For our second it happened in the first month

Sloughsabigplace · 30/01/2022 13:13

Once, all five times (two ended in MC).

I am VERY lucky I know. Has sex once each time, and fell pregnant first month of trying, bang on mid cycle.

I was 22, 34 and 39.

Again, I do appreciate this is very lucky and not the norm. We are all so different, it’s not something I speak about in RL as I have seen the heartache of others TTC.
