New washing machine - as Miele's worth it?

My 12 year old lg one has just died so I am hurriedly looking for a replacement but it is really confusing.

I don't mind spending a bit more for one that will last but I looked at Miele and was surprised to see they only come with a 2 year guarantee now. Does anyone know if the new Miele's are worth it? I thought they used to come with a 10 year guarantee so 2 years seems pretty pathetic given the price of them.

Are there any brands people would recommend for longitivity? I don't need any snazzy features, just something quiet and dependable.

We can see this thread is quite old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best washing machine page with lots of great options, from Miele and other brands, that are loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

@Zandathepanda

Toa no it’s a reoccurring problem so much so that Miele/John Lewis told me to check and sort it myself as it’s a known ‘thing’ as others have said, so I would be charged for a call out if I hadn’t done these first. I have given up using fabric conditioner and powder. Comfort conditioner ends up as an orange then black mouldy mess in the drawer after a while as it doesn’t get washed out. It seems ok with liquid detergent. It needs to have a 90 degree wash fairly regularly. My last machine (J Lewis own brand) worked fine until it’s didn’t after 10 years. This Miele one is very demanding.
Yes but you did try and fix it Multiple times And not working So I suspect worth the call out The engineers are superb

Nothing works as long as they used to. Nothing is made as good. I honestly think they have a timer on them, so after a certain time, it turns something off. Where as before, everything could be replaced. I bought a Bosch, after reading reviews, thinking great, sent it back after having to call out an engineer twice, on a brand new item, literally as soon as he fixed it, well according to him, the next wash the same thing happened. Not good. I went back to my original brand. Whirlpool, but it's not Philips whirlpool anymore. Having spoken to the engineer, all of the brands have been brought up by others, so the quality is never as good as they used to be.

My parents dishwasher was 20 years old when I bought both my dishwasher and washing machine (Miele). All 3 machines are still going strong 22 years on - their dishwasher has outlasted them and now belongs to one of my brothers.
Was it worth it - yes: in that time my friend is on her FIFTH washing machine and 3rd dishwasher - mine have cost me far far less overall. No engineers, no spare parts and still going strong.

If most recent Miele aren't as good as older ones, I'd be tempted to spend £2-300 on a secondhand one.
