Daily Haiku

Hello!

Anyone else fancy a thread where we write and share a haiku daily?

I used to write a lot of haikus. I find they're a good mindfulness exercise 🙂

I've just started writing them again about my baby son but will try to branch out into other topics.

Here is one from last night. Distracting the boy with a toy boat while putting him in pajamas (he's a wriggler). Title in bold.

Tug Boat
A toy boat sailing
The blue ocean of your sheets
Night night tiny boy

My girl made a pet
A rock, boxed, she named him Marx
Communist stone guy

Monster artichokes
Wobble under blue blue sky
Feels like Spring-is it?

My bench remembers
Three young men I didn’t know
But feel like I did

Just driving along
I remember you and once again
The pain is piercing

A blue sky today
The cherry trees are waiting
Tired - I close my eyes

@MsNorth today I noticed a bench in our local park dedicated to a young man killed at Ypres. 1915. I thought about writing something about it (but didn't). Yours is poignant.

My girl has come home
Muddy, tired, full of stories.
Perfect school journey.

Barbed wire throat, no voice
Sun slanting over my bed
Buttercup syrup

Clients, back-to-back,
Stories, trauma, memories.
A weighty honour.

This is going to hurt
I’ve binged the lot- laughed and cried-

So many places.
Seasides, cities, mountain towns.
Where do I belong?

I dream of a flood
Water fills the building - wake
Soft baby breathing

Valentine's menu -
Triple cheese sarnie, crisps, pop,
And a jam doughnut.

Could have felt sorry
for my single self, but dear friend
brought yellow tulips

Playing with my new
Label maker: all the drawers
Now allocated.

The edge of the storm
Hostel windows all agape
Net curtains billow

I love a label maker!
You could make your haikus into labels.
Now I wish I'd kept mine...

Amsterdam weekend.
Tall houses crowd the canals.
Silent witnesses.

The storm is coming
Secure all the trampolines
Eunice is angry

A bright blowy day.
The storm has washed the world clean
And reset the clock.

Wind sighs down to calm
Shall I hang the washing out?
Clothes pegs hide in fear

2.40am
Boy gulping milk - on the floor
A square of moonlight

@Dillidalli where are you? I'm in the NW. We're forecast a full day of sleet tomorrow but I think we're escaping the worst of the wind.

Does irritate me how things get wrapped around the line when it's windy.
