Strangest thing you have found embarrassing

I was waiting for a friend with a bunch of flowers for her. I found this so embarrassing for some reason! Something about standing on a street with a bunch of flowers. I also find having a baby bump cringe!

When the hairdresser takes out your ponytail to give it a comb through and discuss the haircut but your hair is a bit greasy because why would you wash it just come to the hair salon?
Then the bit when they show you the hair in the mirror and you have to express how pleased you are. So embarrassing.

waitinginthecar · 24/01/2022 20:32

@rocksonrocks

I loathe filling my car with fuel
Same here!
Veryverycalmnow · 24/01/2022 20:33

Oh and that Christmas song that goes ropopompom

Veryverycalmnow · 24/01/2022 20:38

@Tomeeornottomee

I used to get embarrassed by other people’s haircuts 🙄 I remember meeting a boyfriend when I was about 16 and not being able to look him in the eye cos he’d been to the barbers!
Oh yes, I still get this!
Snooks1971 · 24/01/2022 20:58

@eleanorplease

Queuing for the toilet when it's busy and there are multiple cubicles.

The sheer pressure of it.

Yes! Having to scan all the cubicles waiting for a door to open and then move swiftly towards it, therefore keeping the process moving. And if 2 open at the same time - furthest away or nearest?
VioletOcean · 24/01/2022 21:42

@dementedma

Child performers Pantomimes Role play in work
Me and a friend at work had to do roll play of an emergency first aid but we couldn’t stop laughing and we go for told off! We’re both edging closer to 50 which made it even funnier
TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 24/01/2022 22:34

@dementedma omg role play. Makes me actually curl up and die.

Last time I was threatened with role play I developed a sudden onset vomiting fit and had to be sent home.

stretchypants · 24/01/2022 22:39

Omg I feel like I’ve finally found my people 😂 I thought I was odd for feeling embarrassed over these things. I hate people seeing me arrive if I’ve been invited to their house, if I ever need to get a taxi I’d ask it stop a street away so I could walk and be less conspicuous!

TravellingSpoon · 24/01/2022 22:46

Taking my lunch to work. I do it every shift but I feel embarrased about it and hate it if people see my stashing my lunchbox in the staff fridge.

Scoleah · 24/01/2022 22:49

Buying toilet paper on its own without purchasing anything else ! Makes me cringe Blush

Solved - buy Imodium and gin along with the loo roll 😂😂
Scoleah · 24/01/2022 22:54

@TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo oh I could never! Blush luckily my kids are of the age where they like to pay for anything at the till now so I send them to pay for it! Grin

mistermagpie · 24/01/2022 22:59

Oh I love this thread, I have so many of these! I'm such an awkward person.

Recent one was the neighbours dog walker saw me putting Christmas decorations up on the outside of my house and I was so embarrassed. I wasn't embarrassed about people seeing the decorations once it was finished, but them seeing the process made me feel so awkward that I had to leave it half done and go inside.

TenPenceMix · 24/01/2022 23:05

When out hiking/hillwalking and you see someone in the distance coming toward you and you know you have to exchange pleasantries but not knowing the right time to make eye contact. Ugh

spotcheck · 24/01/2022 23:12

Hmmm
Maybe not the vibe of the thread, but the other day I was reading a receipt ( yes, a receipt, it's not a typo) and I walked into a post. On the high street, close to a group of people smoking outside a pub.

Phew- I needed to get that off my chest

Mother87 · 24/01/2022 23:17

So so many of these... but the very worst, people "serenading" people... DH did this to me at our wedding almost twenty years ago, & I STILL get anxious thinking about itConfused I was asked to go & sit on a chair almost in the middle of the fkng dance floor, whilst DH started to sing "you make me feel like a natural maaaaaan" He'd had singing lessons n all... and I KNOW he meant well, but it was so far removed from anything I'd ever want to happen
I'd "grabbed" DS6 for "protection" & plonked him on my knee. It was as if DH had never met me, never knew how I LOATHED being the centre of attention etc etc... I still dredge it up every so often when we have a row...and it still makes me epic-level cringe just thinking about itBlushBlush

currering · 24/01/2022 23:39

Ordering food in a busy queue makes me embarrassed.

Years ago in New York on honeymoon and always dreamt of going in one of those delis and getting an amazing sandwich.
Walked in, queue huge, so fast moving, everyone shouting behind the counter "whaddya want??" There was waaaay too much choice and I walked out with a boring cheese salad sub as I was too scared to delay the queue Blush

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 24/01/2022 23:39

@ImprobablePuffin

Listening to my own voice on a recording. Just kill me now and be done with it.
Same!! And if that's how I sound IRL I wanna stab my ear drums out so I never have to listen to my own voice ever again.
HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 24/01/2022 23:53

@drigon

Not sure if my one is strange, but I absolutely detest wearing Christmas hats from crackers - they look so flimsy and silly. Really hate cutting cakes in front of others at birthdays... I suppose these are common, maybe!?
I don't detest wearing Christmas hats out of a cracker. They just don't fit and I do actually like to be able to see what I'm eating. Instead of my vision covered by a coloured paper hat
Moofart · 24/01/2022 23:58

Yes to the cinema one but especially when my partner asks me if I enjoyed the film as we are walking out. It makes me want to curl into a ball!

ABitOfAShitShow · 25/01/2022 00:04

@GrapefruitPink

Also walking past a busker and worrying that my footsteps will be in time to the music.

😂😂😂 this made me laugh

I’m CRYING! 😂
Disneydatknee88 · 25/01/2022 00:09

General "hanging around" I find embarrassing. I had a job interview today and was waiting around in the reception area afterwards for a taxi to take me home..I found it incredibly embarrassing to be hanging about when I didn't need to be there. I don't like waiting around looking like a lemon. It makes me feel incredibly awkward.

CarrieMoonbeams · 25/01/2022 00:20

Oh God, the NHS Clap one has reminded me of the most horrific one.

My lovely NDN works for the NHS in an admin role. During The Clap, DH - who is normally a sensible chap - inexplicably turned towards my NDN and said in a huge booming voice "This is for you, Sarah-Jane!" and clapped enthusiastically at her.

I had to go inside.

3amMusings · 25/01/2022 00:32

I work in childcare. Whenever I meet a child who doesn't know me they ask my name, and for some reason I I get so embarrassed telling them it Confused.

When I'm walking past a stranger in the street and my eyes meet theirs and we both give each other that weird little grin as we pass.

Making small talk with the hairdresser, checkout operator etc. Hate it and it makes me cringe.

Accepting a delivery at the door. I always get DH to accept it.

When I have to say no to absolutely anything. I turn beetroot and think about it for the rest of the day.

When I'm having a conversation with someone and we make eye contact for too long, but I feel too rude to look away while we're engaged in conversation 😅

Hanahdhbenan · 25/01/2022 00:45

I agree with so many of these.
I also get incredibly embarrassed when I accidentally beep my car horn. I actually apologise and hold up my hand even if there’s no one around.
