Strangest thing you have found embarrassing

I was waiting for a friend with a bunch of flowers for her. I found this so embarrassing for some reason! Something about standing on a street with a bunch of flowers. I also find having a baby bump cringe!

Word!
I hesitate to contribute as it's so mealy mouthed and pofaced to join a thread to essentially say "you're all wrong!" and some of the embarrassing things are funny or relatable.
But the notion that other people are judging us and we should be more self conscious is really damaging.[/quote]
I hope I didn't sound judge. Just saying that I don't find things like waiting for change in a shop or waiting at a bus stop embarrassing.
If I was standing in either situation with my skirt tucked into my knickers I would probably feel differently. Grin

@Etinoxaurus & @WeatherwaxOn
I am definitely not judging anyone as I don't like to be judged myself.
I was really just surprised by the amount of responses on the thread which, in turn, made me consider people may be uncomfortable in a situation that hadn't remotely crossed my mind. I don't think I am a d* in every day life, if anything, I always try to be empathetic. Every day is a school day though!

Well this thread, along with general new year new me feeling made me make eye contact and a wee greeting when picking up from after school club. What did I shout to the parent over the playground while waving? Morning! Ffs. Poor kid is going to have to be last picked up forever now cause I can’t tell rhe time of day.

Totally agreeing with the ones about walking along and facing traffic or cars having to stop for me so I can cross at the zebra crossing.
I also feel embarrassed saying my name. I actually like my name but when I say it, it comes out like I am suddenly drunk. This was compounded even more when my friend heard me say my name the other day and she started guffawing and asked me 'why did you say it like that, you don't speak like that'.
Also yes to the window cleaner. I have been known to throw myself onto the floor and commando crawl across the floor to my 'I am pretending I am not in' hiding place. I also find hanging my washing out embarrassing because the neighbours might be watching Hmm

I've just thought of one to add to this.

I don't know why but if I buy clothing from a shop where they ask you at the counter "Wpuld you like to keep the hangers?" I always feel too embarrassed to say yes - even though it would be really handy - as I feel it makes me look like I can't afford them or something perhaps? Not sure why! Blush

I'm cringing about taking a cooler box to DD's sports day picnic today! Even though it is a heatwave and well be there for 3 hours so it is the best way to store the food. In my head thr hard rigid cool box is cringy and I wish I had a picnic basket.

New over- the- road neighbours have just moved in. Yesterday we were both at the window closing curtains at the same time and caught sight of each other. We've not met yet. Our eyes have now met. This was such a horrible moment and I hope it never happens again.

This might be quite a weird cringe as plenty of people won’t get it…but I’m sure some of you will. I can’t bring myself to post social occasions on Facebook…like a night out for example…or lunch with a friend. It turns me inside out with embarrassment because I feel like I’m shouting LOOK AT ME HAVING FRIENDS.
I also cringe at others’ posts detailing every social interaction they have. Social media has become such a sad, shallow, competitive popularity contest that I can’t bear to join in.
Besides that, photos of rounds of cocktails or lattes aren’t very interesting.

Being in a shop and thinking what if I've been hypnotised to dance to a certain song and can't stop myself from dancing if it's played! I'm an awful dancer 💃🙈

I always cringe when, at the end of a seminar or talk the person giving the talk asks if there are any questions - I sit there desperately trying to think of one and feel so embarrassed if there aren’t any!
Also wearing sunglasses !

Or worse...

When kids put on a talent show. 😬

When customers I’ve only know as Mr or Mrs such and such ask me to call them by their first name, same with PIL.

People clapping on planes on landing makes me cringe so hard it brings on acute IBS.

It's so unbearably patronising: "well done for doing your job, highly skilled and expensively-trained aeroplane drivers!"

For me, the clapping is sheer relief we are actually on the ground again!

I get it. My heart sinks now when someone inevitably whips their phone out. It's like we're living life through a bloody lens now. I hate it.

@Thisisit2022

The fucking NHS clap. After successfully avoiding all the neighbours in my horseshoe shaped cul de sac for over 10 years (and then the onset of a pandemic) it felt like an unnecessarily extra cruel blow.

Grin

My abiding memory of The Clap was standing in the garden, trying to evacuate the dog's anal glands because the vet was only seeing emergency cases. As I gingerly slid a gloved finger up there, the entire street erupted in applause and fireworks.

😂😂😂😂

I used to drive home past a pub with outside singers/ entertainers. Windows wound up and no eye contact, excruciating.
in fact any form of amateur entertainers/singers make me supremely embarrassed.

Also, this is really really REALLY bad but I work with someone who’s child is heavily into am dram and I think the family fully believes that he is going to be a famous actor. She puts posters up of his performances in the staff room and her SM is jam packed with promoting this boy.
I don’t know why but it makes me internally cringe and feel very uncomfortable.

I can relate to so many of these.

Walking past buskers.
Going for a walk without my dog.
Entering a restaurant or the canteen at work looking for "your" people who arrived before you.
Comedians who aren't funny and no- one laughs. Oh the shame 😡

I once watched someone walk through a central station (indoor) with their umbrella up. They only realised when they tried to get on the train. I cringed for them.

Oh, I sometimes buy clothing from the local supermarket. Wearing the clothing when I go shopping in there embarrasses me 👩

When a stranger asks “how are you?” or “how are you today?”
Like in shops.
Inwardly cringe and am mortified just because they know that I know that we all know that they are in no way interested in how I am but I’m forced to smile falsely and state the same shite for the sake of it.
