Strangest thing you have found embarrassing

I was waiting for a friend with a bunch of flowers for her. I found this so embarrassing for some reason! Something about standing on a street with a bunch of flowers. I also find having a baby bump cringe!

Shouting to the mannequin during resuscitation training. " Mr Jones, wake up. Can you hear me, Mr Jones?" Of course not he's made of bloody plastic.

Then explaining your actions " I'm just pulling the buzzer now"

Then telling your imaginary colleagues what to do. In front of an audience.😡

Itswaytoohot · 22/07/2022 08:16

I know this is an old thread but it's hilarious.

A very weird one for me is ordering takeaway food and answering the door. It makes me feels lazy and slobby that I'm buying unhealthy food to be delivered and I imagine the server/driver is judging me.

ShineOnYouCrazyHonda · 22/07/2022 08:16

I work for the NHS and absolutely cringed at the clapping.
I hid indoors between 7.30 to 8.30, or sat very quietly in the back garden, weather permitting . I agree it was an unnecessarily extra cruel blow @Thisisit2022

People who knew I worked for the NHS, if they were with people they knew and I didn’t, it was ‘ Honda here works for the NHS, isn’t that amazing?’ And I’d get that pitying look/conversation of how hard it must be working through the pandemic, or even worse, gave a polite clap while I stood there. Ground. Swallow. Up. Mortified. Thank goodness that didn’t happen much.

Being the first person to lead from the front of a congregation to the back of the church, walking past everybody in the pews, before they eventually follow. Even worse was the fact at one time it was my father in laws funeral so I was trying to hide my emotions but failing miserably.

Brass bands suddenly striking up next to me, yet I don’t mind hearing them on TV.

Redvelvet73 · 22/07/2022 08:33

The most cringeworthy thing in the world is adults doing actions to music. Like in some evangelical churches. Not so bad ( but still cringy) at weddings when people are drunk ( like the birdie song) but during a serious church service when about half the congregation do the actions and the other half look mortified.

Breastfeeding a newborn in a cafe.

TightPants · 22/07/2022 17:56

American audiences with all the whooping and fist pumping.

Anyone playing bongos or dancing whilst playing keyboards.

The film Breakfast Club. I remember watching it as a teen and just dying of embarrassment at them all trying to be so cool.

SweetRuby · 22/07/2022 18:13

For me it's New Years Eve when the bell strikes 12, I hate the whole happy New year and kiss. I'd rather hide in the bathroom if I'm at a party or in the pub. In fact I rather stay at home and skip it entirely.

autienotnaughty · 22/07/2022 18:56

My daughter when she was 3 hugged a little boy at playgroup for like five minutes I blushed bright red!!

FamilyGredunza · 24/07/2022 12:37

@TightPants "I remember watching it as a teen and just dying of embarrassment at them all trying to be so cool."

Mrs Doubtfire was on tv the other day and I'd bigged it up to DS age 7 saying he might enjoy it and how funny Robin Williams is.

There's a part in the film where he starts doing voices to dinosaurs and for one of them he does this rap and it is SO cringey I had to genuinely cover my face with a pillow! It's the voice, the movements, urgh everything.
DS looked at me open mouthed and said "Mum what is he doing". I had to leave the room!

FamilyGredunza · 24/07/2022 12:40
The Raptor Rap - WARNING a pillow is needed for the cringe factor.
TightPants · 24/07/2022 12:45

@FamilyGredunza oh no! My DS would have the same reaction as yours I think 😂

JustDanceAddict · 24/07/2022 13:32

So the shop thing.
i hate seeing people I know in the supermarket and I’ve hidden to avoid it! I’m not even an unsociable person but it’s so cringe cos you know you’re going to see them again in the next aisle!
also agree w meeting someone in public, but worse if you’re short sighted and wave at the wrong person 😆 I have to really be sure it’s them before I wave.

BlossomsOnATree · 24/07/2022 14:32

OMG the supermarket thing. When you see someone you know, not really a friend but enough of an acquaintance that you have to have an awkward little chat. Then you go round the supermarket and you bump into them on every aisle.... arrrggghhh. Then I do a cringy little grin at them EVERY TIME. Blush

WiseRobin · 24/07/2022 14:41

@autienotnaughty i felt mortified when DS hugged a parent we only really knew vaguely in our local (what was then) Homebase. The parent went rigid and I just felt so embarrassed for them as they didn’t know what to do and what to say. They looked like they really didn’t give hugs.

Also when DS used to have play dates, the collection time could be painful. Standing in a doorway of someone you don’t know too well, while your DC takes forever to get their shoes on, or gets one shoe on and then becomes distracted again, can’t find their coat, stalling tactics etc etc I used to find some those moments mortifying.

I once turned around and left the supermarket I was in because I saw someone I knew, we had a really awkward hello and I thought I can't keep bumping into them, so I drove to another supermarket

Sweetpea1532 · 25/07/2022 10:26

@Sunbun19 @JustDanceAddict I'm the same about the supermarket...
Look! A gif just for usGrin

We wear staff lanyards at work which have a photo on them. I find it really embarrassing if I realise I’ve gone to work wearing the same dress as the one I’m wearing in my lanyard photo.

Allmarbleslost · 25/07/2022 10:32

Walking along the pavement next to a line of queuing traffic. Hate it and feel so embarrassed.

When I got engaged, I didn't want to tell anyone because I didn't want attention drawn to me even though it was a happy, nice thing! I told someone at work who told everyone else and I spent the whole day scarlet.

This is why I don't want to get married. I don't mind the thought of an engagement, but honestly the thought of being the centre of attention at an actual wedding/reception fills me with dread.

But it also fills me with dread to just get married without doing all that, because both mine and DP's families will absolutely kick off about not being there.

So I can't win either way.
