North west thread

YouHaveMail · 17/01/2022 23:22

Noting there is a thread for the east side, I thought a north west thread was needed.

--Also I am very bored at the moment waiting for dc to fall asleep, and this felt like the perfect way to spend the time.

Any other NW mumsnetters here? Let's talk schools, food, leisure....and so on Grin

@stinkycheeseman

Kardashians??
Have you read anything other than the title?

(Is it just me who thinks of Gul Dukat and his grey-skinned kin when I hear that name? Not that this has anything to do with the thread.)

Figmentofimagination · 24/01/2022 00:04

@ErrolTheDragon , no your not the only one! Ugly grey reptiles.

SummerWhisper · 24/01/2022 00:34

@Figmentofimagination ice lollies? Surely you mean lolly ice?

In further clues to my location - I'm where Isabakes has set up, her shop is next to my friend's and the stuff is to die for!!

MouseyMoose · 24/01/2022 09:30

I feel I may need to leave the thread as I'm really not a fan of Latham's cakes Grin

Never tried Finch bakery as it's a bit far from me but maybe I will make a special trip to try Isabakes!

PumpkinCrumble · 24/01/2022 10:27

Just remembered I had Vimto jelly babies once! They were amazing but only sold in one specific corner shop.

HerRoyalHappiness · 24/01/2022 10:29

Oooh can I join. Proud Prestonian reporting. Grin

Itsmeandhim · 24/01/2022 11:02

Our nearest Booths is Knutsford. Which is a good 20 minute drive.
We are in the poor part of Cheshire. No Cheshire housewives around here.
We have good shopping in that we can get to Cheshire oaks, Chester and even
the Trafford centre within 30 minutes.

thismeansnothing · 24/01/2022 18:42

@pumpkincrumble my sister got my 2yr old vimto jelly babies at Christmas. She picked them up in home bargains 😊

Got to say I'm not a Latham's cakes fan. Overpriced and they are ways bloody dry. No. Thank. You. But if anyone is Preston/Lancaster way really recommend the cakes from Lightash. They are bloody awesome. As are their breakfasts 🤤

ErrolTheDragon · 24/01/2022 18:50

We've got out of the cake habit in the last couple of years. But today in the start of our 'return to normality', we did go to Atkinsons for their exceptionally nice cappuccino.
(Some of you may be too southerly northwesterners to know where I mean, I suppose, your loss.Grin)

gluenotsoup · 24/01/2022 19:39

Slattery’s bakery and tea rooms anyone?

InMySpareTime · 24/01/2022 19:47

I've not been in Slatterys for a few years, the hot chocolate is divine!

joydivisionovengloves71 · 24/01/2022 19:59

@NoWordForFluffy

Evening from Southport!

I'm not too sure what they are here, but I'm originally from East Mids so call them rolls! I think I've seen barm mentioned, however! My kids call them buns, and they're born and bred here. 🤷‍♀️

Which chippy are you going to, @PunishmentSnart?

I'm in Southport too. 👋

If that tower goes up, we will be able to see the whole of the North West and beyond 😂😂

PunishmentSnart · 24/01/2022 20:04

Not from Southport but its only about 20-30 mins away. Used to have friends from nearby and had a good few nights out there!

joydivisionovengloves71 · 24/01/2022 20:07
@NoWordForFluffy In Southport it’s always the Sandgrounder Grin
We walk past there all the time and look at people trays of chips, they always look amazing! Our nearest is High Park Chippy which is lovely

GuyFawkesDay · 24/01/2022 20:10

I was always a fan of the Brickcroft bakery in longton by the nature reserve. Many a happy butty bought from there 😁

NoWordForFluffy · 24/01/2022 20:12

Ha, @joydivisionovengloves71, that tower must be a joke! 🤣🤣 Are you on the SUFS Facebook page? Somebody got in before me to ask if it was 1st April!

FoxyBadger · 24/01/2022 20:18

Hello NWers!
Love our part of the UK, think we have everything- great cities, coast and beaches, lovely countryside, canal network, etc, etc.
I'm in Cheshire but, as someone else said, not posh part.
It's a bap and alley for me and we're not that near a Booths but DS goes to school in a much posher part of Cheshire and there's one right next to school so I visit when I pick him up and pretend I'm rich Grin

troppibambini6 · 24/01/2022 20:19

Aah my people, may I join you. I'm a Manc grew up in Gorton lived in various bits of Manchester now settled to Trafford (near Booths)
It's an entry or ginnel for me and a barm.
@TheOnlyMrsW love that picture of St Anne's square haven't been to town for ages.

Wineandchoccy · 24/01/2022 20:32

Hello North Westers I’m 5 mins away from Booths and used to work there when I was a student Grin
I’m East Lancs where there is a tiny castle Smile

PaperMonster · 24/01/2022 20:38

@Wineandchoccy - a ruined one?

YouHaveMail · 24/01/2022 20:38

@TheOnlyMrsW ahhh I hadn't heard of isabakes until this thread (thank you @PaperMonster ) I've just realised when dc goes to The Hill (skiing) I'm actually super close to isabakes! Think I won't stand around in the cold next time 😂

TheVolturi · 24/01/2022 20:50

I'm from over Blackburn way and it's not a barm or a muffin it's a tea cake! My kids take the mickey out of my Blackburn phrases (we don't live in Blackburn) they keep saying they need a Blackburn dictionary 🤣
