Just in case we need it.

New: Metropolitan police say they don’t usually investigate covid breaches reported long after the event but will see if Sue Gray investigation shows potentially criminal behaviour and then make a decision

But the Prime Minister admitted to the breaches on Wednesday.

Lewis Goodall

NEW: @EdwardJDavey wrote to the Met yday calling on them to investigate the May 20th No10 event. Dep Assistant Commisioner Jane Connors replied to his office today. Says “there are limits to what we can say with regard to operational decision making” and in touch with Cab office.

They can't even get the date right in their response letter

TheRealShedSadie · 13/01/2022 19:28

I’m not sure Sue Gray can accuse the PM of a criminal offense unless he tells her so. As a civil servant she HAS to take the word of the PM as fact. She doesn’t have any power to contradict him or go against his word.

If he says he was acting within the law that’s what she will report.

The thing is, the way he’s worded his responses so far are a bit vague so it all depends on how the questions are framed I guess?

One of the only thing that gives me hope is the shift in the polls:

The British electorate appear not to believe the bullshit.

Don't worry. Boris will bounce back, he is the great survivor.

@jgw1 I am happy if he does survive in a way, because it will benefot the opposition if he does limp on.

The Tories would be absolutely mad to keep him if the poll ratings don't bounce back very comprehensively and quickly.

rrhuth · 13/01/2022 19:41

Saw a guy from ConservativeHome say he was toast, I enjoyed that too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2022 19:45

I'm so sorry, I've been too busy partying to open the bottle of wine. Now it's time to settle down to work. Confused
Is it our job to now determine who is acting criminally? I think I'm going to report my neighbours because they err don't seem to be drinking/working hard enough.

jgw1 · 13/01/2022 19:45

Totally. The opposition need him to limp on and any likely alternatives to be inextricably linked to his lying.
JRM of course has managed to that all by himself in his case over the past 24hours.

Don't worry. Boris will bounce back, he is the great survivor.

The bounce tends to come after the sacking/abject failure.

Arcuri, Wallpaper, parties, Owen Patterson - it’s all been self inflicted.

He won’t be able to survive months let alone years without doing something else stupid/immoral.

longwayoff · 13/01/2022 20:38

True. I've always thought that Bozo will be unseated by something that initially seems trivial enough for him to not even bother blustering about. Sadly, I've no idea what that might be. Anyway. Are we to believe that none of these hard workers/celebrating boozers took any photos at the jollies? Who's got some and where are they? Must be plenty somewhere.

I would guess being held back by whoever is doing the leaks, to be released after the Sue Grey report.

llanssannan · 13/01/2022 20:47

Mr Rees-Mogg points to how hard it was for the restrictions to be followed. Very true.

If Mr Johnson had acted in early March 2020 and again in late September 2020 instead of weeks later, the restrictions would have been for a much shorter time.

The Telegraph (!) are reporting further parties. I can't read beyond the paywall so I can't see the full story - so maybe it's something or nothing. But the little bit of information in the tweets doesn't look great.

DuncinToffee · 13/01/2022 21:52

2 more parties reported by the Telegraph

twitter.com/Tony_Diver/status/1481741337951195136?t=tthoS5zvil5XPgw3x9_gqA&s=19

🚨EXCLUSIVE

Number 10 held two boozy parties the night before the Queen mourned Prince Philip alone.

Staff drank and at points danced until the early hours of the night of April 16.

Hours later, the Queen went to a socially-distanced funeral for Philip.

summertimerolls · 13/01/2022 21:59

This leaking campaign is quite jaw dropping in its sheer relentlessness. It's obviously been planned so precisely for each new leak to drop just as Johnson thinks he's got out of the last one.

This is a biggy. To tie their shitty, selfish drinks to a photo of the Queen sitting alone, so completely "doing the right thing" in the chapel at the funeral is going to hit hard.

Notonthestairs · 13/01/2022 22:02

I'll admit I am amused by the idea that one of the attendees was sent to the Co-op with a suitcase 🧳 to buy extra booze.

It almost sounds like a wind up.

At the time indoor gatherings were illegal and outdoor restricted to 6.

Notonthestairs · 13/01/2022 22:34

Telegraph also reporting that Andrew Bridgen has put in his letter.

I'm very surprised, maybe I shouldn't be. Will be interesting to see if other ERG members follow his example.
