Anyone tried the McDonald's McPlant?

Interested in anyone's views before I try at the weekend! I am a big fan of fake-meat burgers (the only category of fake meat I think is indistinguishable from/superior to the original) and usually have Linda McCartney's or Co-Ops own brand, so looking forward to trying this!

On a side note, anyone have a good fake-meat sausage recommendations? None I've tried have hit the mark.

Thanks!

@BIWI

OK - to make the point further - here are the ingredients for an equivalent quarterpounder beef patty:

Quarter Beef Patty
100% Pure Beef.
No additives, fillers, binders, preservatives or flavour enhancers. Just pure forequarter and flank. A little salt and pepper is added to season after cooking.

If you want to be vegan, it's your prerogative, obviously. But I wonder how many people realise just how processed these foods are?

So you take your pattie out of the bun?
Cecillie · 11/01/2022 16:58

Dd had it at the weekend
Said it was nice and would have again but preferred the kfc vegan burger.
She likes Linda Mc cartney or Richmond sausages best.
If anyone gets Gousto, their veggie burgers are really nice, we get those instead of beef versions now and everyone likes them.you can buy them separately in the market place.

Sparklingbrook · 11/01/2022 16:58

I really want to try one. I'm not a huge burger fan and the McDonald's ones seem to disagree with me within half an hour so I've stuck to chicken from there.
I'm going to get one tomorrow and report back. I am probably going to give up meat altogether very soon.

I really appreciate the list of ingredients as following the rave reviews, I would have probably tried one.

Now I can see that it is full of disgusting crap, I wont.

So thanks to the poster who went to the trouble of posting it.

HoldingTheDoor · 11/01/2022 16:59

You beat me too it

I look forward to seeing you there, MouseyMoose. BIWI too of course.

L0uby1 · 11/01/2022 16:59

Had it at the weekend. It's really tasty.

It's a fake meat product sold in McDonalds. Were you expecting it to made out of fresh air?

Icenii · 11/01/2022 17:01

People love to jump on vegan food as being processed. Its only generally meat alternatives that are, but these people seem to forget that much of what meat eaters and non meats eat is heavily processed regardless. Convenience foods, take outs, snack food, jars, sauces, processed bread and cakes. But for some reason they only focus on one thing to push a point.

Elllicam · 11/01/2022 17:02

I liked the taste, as far as I can remember it tasted like beef (but it’s been almost 30 years since I had actual beef). I felt the texture was a bit mushy though.

ISpyCobraKai · 11/01/2022 17:03

I used to like the BK spicy bean burger they did years ago.
I wouldn't eat a fake meat burger though since I eat actual meat.

Sparklingbrook · 11/01/2022 17:03

You could always have the McPlant and a MN 'massive salad' on the side. Wink

LethargicActress · 11/01/2022 17:03

@gogohm

Dd refused to eat it because they wouldn't substitute the fake cheese for proper cheese. It seems ridiculous they only have vegan now not vegetarian
Really? Shock

Why not? Wankers. I want to try it with normal cheese too.

rainbowdancegirl · 11/01/2022 17:03

oh yes :) and it was amazing! I have been waiting for this for ages.
I do prefer the burger king plant one though mainly because its bigger.

WarmSausageTea · 11/01/2022 17:07

I’m not vegan, I’m not even vegetarian, but after all this (unasked for, unwanted) bullshit about the ingredients, I am absolutely going to try the McPlant.

WarmSausageTea · 11/01/2022 17:07

Also, sanctimony is rarely a good look.

Omicrone · 11/01/2022 17:11

I do think 'Plant-Washing' is a bit of an issue. A lot of people will think that because something is 'plant based' it's healthier.

I eat a fair amount of veggie/vegan stuff these days, but I hardly ever have a McDonald's so I think I will stick to my beloved double quarter pounder with cheese when I do go.

HoldingTheDoor · 11/01/2022 17:13

Probably because of cross contamination issues. A lot of Vegans were upset with Burger King because their vegan burgers were cooked on the same grill as the regular burgers. They may be trying to avoid that.

The HuffPost team was obviously keen to put this heavily-touted product to the taste-test. But not before we checked – and McDonald’s confirmed – that it’s prepared in a Vegan-friendly way, too.
“The meat is cooked on a separate grill and used with separate tongs to avoid cross contamination with meat and dairy products,” said a spokesperson, who added that the fries supplied are also vegan, not just because they’re made from potatoes – “obvs!” – but because they are cooked with sunflower and rapeseed oil in dedicated vats, separate from any animal products.

would hate all this stuff, with all the processed stuff in it. people should read all the ingredients, and be well put off by all the cack in some foods.

Tobleroney · 11/01/2022 17:15

Well provide the list of ingredients for a Big Mac too then! For balance!

HoldingTheDoor · 11/01/2022 17:16

It's a good thing that no one is forcing you to eat it then, isn't it?

CHEM20 · 11/01/2022 17:17

@Mabelface

Watch out with burger King because they use the same grills as the meat!
This.

Burger King vegetarian/vegan food isn’t vegetarian/vegan.

The McPlant is cooked separately and is lush - I’m a big fan.

🤣🤣🤣 at being provided with a list of ingredients to show me it isn’t healthy 🤣🤣🤣

Pencilandpaper · 11/01/2022 17:17

I’m laughing so much about the Ingredients list for a McDonald’s!
I have tried it op, it’s lovely! I asked for it with dairy cheese instead of vegan cheese and they did it.

oatlattetogo · 11/01/2022 17:18

@MouseyMoose

Got to love a McDonald's thread on Mumsnet, always the same Grin
This is a vegan McDonald’s thread though, so it’s even better Grin

The posted ingredients list also included the sesame bun/burger sauce etc, which I imagine is similar for all of the burgers. It’s not like a standard McDonald’s burger is just a slab of beef Hmm

I tried a bite of my partner’s, didn’t like it (I do like the LM ones) but then I don’t like beef so it’s not hugely surprising I guess. He thought it was amazing though! The Burger King ‘chicken’ one is my favourite.

Floralnomad · 11/01/2022 17:18

My veggie sister tried a Mcplant at the weekend , it smelt dreadful and tasted worse than it smelt apparently

Might be a problem if you eat McPlant every day but everyone likes a bit of 'cack' every now and again.
