Anyone tried the McDonald's McPlant?

Interested in anyone's views before I try at the weekend! I am a big fan of fake-meat burgers (the only category of fake meat I think is indistinguishable from/superior to the original) and usually have Linda McCartney's or Co-Ops own brand, so looking forward to trying this!

On a side note, anyone have a good fake-meat sausage recommendations? None I've tried have hit the mark.

Thanks!

I'm a veggie burger lover. The taste of the patty was okay but it was too thin and the fake cheese on top was awful.

NewMessageFrom · 11/01/2022 18:34

@BIWI

OK - to make the point further - here are the ingredients for an equivalent quarterpounder beef patty:

Quarter Beef Patty
100% Pure Beef.
No additives, fillers, binders, preservatives or flavour enhancers. Just pure forequarter and flank. A little salt and pepper is added to season after cooking.

If you want to be vegan, it's your prerogative, obviously. But I wonder how many people realise just how processed these foods are?

I'd say most vegetarians know exactly what's in the processed fake meat
Magnited · 11/01/2022 18:35

No, they really aren't. Some people think the hypocrisy is fucking hilarious, that so many idiots are being encouraged to go veggie and vegan to 'save the planet' and then they go out and eat this processed crap and think they are so much more virtuous than omnivores who only eat fresh food they cook themselves.

It will become like two religions.

But omnivores will eat vegetarians to reduce Earth's population. H G Wells wrote about it.

@Magnited

No way is that list of ingredients "good for animals".

The only local ingredient will be the meat. The bun flour is likely Canadian, possibly French.

The rest is flown in from many different countries and some processed food ie 'out of season' animals habitats will have made way for cash crops;

Sugar (unless 100% British beets)
Sesame
Rye
Milk (Denmark?)
Sunflower oil
Tomatoes (probably Spain or Sicily)
Spices
Gherkins
Onions
Mustard (will be French or US)

Not all vegan or vegetarian food is good for animals. Nor is it better for the planet. It is more complicated than that.

It is more complicated than that, yet the simple part is some people don't want to eat animals or their secretions.
BringBackThinEyebrows · 11/01/2022 18:42

I reccomend Cauldron Lincolnshire Vegetarian Sausages and Richmond Veggie Sausages.

Haven't tried the McPlant yet but hope to soon!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 11/01/2022 18:43

It's not something I would normally eat, but with a description of 'stunning' I feel I must try it. Grin

Holeyscarf · 11/01/2022 18:44

Is the sesame bun not the same one used for meat then? It’s hilarious that this is being focussed on. Why do meat eaters care?

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 11/01/2022 18:45

I prefer the old-style veggie-burgers made with beans and veg. I'm happy to eat meat products and if I want vegetarian/vegan food I'd prefer it not to try to imitate meat at the expense of dozens of obscure additives.

Holeyscarf · 11/01/2022 18:46

@Pugroll

I think it's great they're offering a vegan option, I don't think any/many people go to mcdonalds for a healthy meal- it's weird how vegan diets seem to be much more heavily scrutinised than any other.
Isn’t it? Like guilt making people obsessed and aggressive.
Magnited · 11/01/2022 18:46

@Pugroll Yes it is very 'simple'

Don't eat animals, but let them die in other ways just to beat a path of Veganism to your front door.

Note for Omnivores: Buy more meat or fish than you need, freeze it and throw it out 18 months or so down the line, from your freezer.

Same waste, just different routes.

PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2022 18:46

I very much enjoyed it. I haven’t eaten real meat for years though.
I thought it was a shame that McDonald’s ditched their old spicy bean burger in favour of those weird, bland veggie finger things. I’d love it if that came back.

DeadButDelicious · 11/01/2022 18:47

Tried it today, thought it was very nice. Would have it again.

Holeyscarf · 11/01/2022 18:47

I love meat and I will buy meat imitators if that’s ok. Because I miss meat but don’t want to eat animals with emotions and feelings.

Daisy03 · 11/01/2022 18:48

Love taste and glory sausages

What on earth are you on about?! Why are you so triggered by others making an effort to try and minimise harm inflicted on animals? Fucking weird to be honest.

You miss the point.

You don't need sesame.

That's it.

Some people do just genuinely hate vegans and vegetarians for unknown reasons. I’m sure you don’t, but they do exist 😬

I don’t know any vegans and vegetarians who think they’re more virtuous from a health point of view than omnivores who only eat fresh food they cook themselves (not that I’ve ever met one of those) and I have no idea whether this vegan burger is more environmentally friendly than a home made beef burger. I imagine it still is (especially if the beef isn’t from the UK) but I don’t know for certain. The point that irritated me from the poster sharing the list of the ingredients was that they shared the complete list of ingredients from the vegan burger and only the patty ingredients from the beef burger. If you compare them both I’m sure they’re got fairly equal amounts of crap in…

Holeyscarf · 11/01/2022 18:49

@Pugrollthis thread has brought out all the weirdos.

That was my point- extremely manipulative of that poster.
Magnited · 11/01/2022 18:52

@Pugroll

This is the point. Omnivores, Vegetarians and Vegans all inflict harm on animals. I can assure you I am not triggered at all. I eat animals. I harm animals. As does everyone on the planet.

Do not pretend otherwise even if you are vegan.

Chloemol · 11/01/2022 18:53

Veggie sausages, cauldron. Best by a mile

People don't claim to have zero impact on animals, but aim to be doing as much as reasonably practicable- doing some stuff is better than doing nothing, it's such a weird argument. Ah well may as well cause more harm because everyone causes some Confused.

BertieBotts · 11/01/2022 18:55

I tried the burger king plant based whopper because DH raved about not being able to tell it wasn't meat, and it tasted exactly like a supermarket frozen veggie burger Confused

I don't get it. What am I missing? It's really put me off trying the beyond burgers etc which I was kind of hoping to.

I don’t eat them though.

Vegetarians and vegans usually try to minimise the harm they cause to animals even if it’s not possible to eliminate it entirely.
