I hope that this latest development gives that poor boy's family answers, terrible as they may be. I can't imagine the hell they've had to live with every day since his disappearance.

@SisterJude thank you, I appreciate that.

ESGdance · 15/01/2022 13:42

@KloppsTeeth

I was talking about this to a friend this morning. She reminded me that he was deaf in one ear and very short sighted, which adds to his vulnerability.

She was hopeful that he is alive and, because of his very gifted mathematical abilities, had been “acquired” as an asset by a foreign government if they had discovered him at the gifted and talented camp. But the development of the arrests suggests that the police have some evidence of indecent images of Andrew.

Wow your friend has some fantastical conspiracy thinking going !
FrankieBoyleSezLoveOneAnother · 15/01/2022 13:44
@ESGdance did Alex also attend the same G&T camp?

I wonder why police rules out this person as Andrew? He looks remarkably like him and has the same nickname. Could be a troll, I suppose.
The police have apparently looked into this and the gentleman pictured is not Andrew Gosden. He has had problems with people hassling him on social media too. There was also a picture of a 20-something guy who looks like Andrew on 4Chan but was ruled out. These things are often discussed on a Reddit sub about Andrew.

ENoeuf · 15/01/2022 13:45

Jacinda. You started @ing me repeatedly and now claim some sort of harassment. I asked you to stop and you didn’t. Please (for the second time) stop @ing me.

Jacaranda75 · 15/01/2022 14:08

@ENoeuf stop directing posts at me then I'll stop replying. It really is that simple.

HPLikecraft · 15/01/2022 14:32

After much googling I've not found anything that says Alex Sloley went to the Gifted and talented camp, only people wondering if he may have. I suppose they're wondering if there's a link as Alex was also very able in maths.

Anyway, I hope this development leads to some answers for Andrew's family.

ENoeuf · 15/01/2022 14:47

^interesting I’ve just googled as well and it seems the link is on forums largely. Both very close to each other geographically. One said the camp was the year before but I couldn’t see that anywhere else.

KatherineJaneway · 15/01/2022 15:11

@Jacaranda75 @ENoeuf

Please stop bickering. This thread is about Andrew, please have a modicum of respect. Fight over DM if you want to squabble.

ENoeuf · 15/01/2022 15:27

^^ HP you probably found this but the link may have been started in 2017 by a retired police detective? And then become the camp link?
Neville is also struck by the similarity between the case of Andrew and that of 16-year-old Alex Sloley, who disappeared in July 2008 — ten months after Andrew.

Alex was also a bright maths student studying accountancy. His family come from Islington, North London, around two miles from King’s Cross, although he had gone to stay with friends further north, in Edmonton, when he vanished.

Mr Neville said of the missing boys: “It raises the question on whether there is a serial killer on the prowl?

“We can only hope Andrew and Alex are still alive. But the potential links between these cases need to be recognised.”

efeslight · 15/01/2022 17:45

I have also followed this awful case for years and am so sorry for Andrew's family and of course Andrew himself. The horror of not knowing what happened is unimaginable.

ENoeuf · 15/01/2022 21:20

Very different but it reminds me of Asha Degree packing her rucksack and leaving in the night. Just the strangeness of planning to leave but no known trigger.

If you (or anyone) is interested in the Asha Degree case and hasn't seen it, O'Byrant (her brother) did a fb live last year on the anniversary of her disappearance, and it is still available on his fb page (public) if you want to watch it.

He's so articulate and dignified :(
And truly believes she's alive.

His name on fb is O'Bee Degree.

@BruceBogtrottersWife really? I didn’t know this - I read about it on Reddit in a crime sub I think? She was a lot younger but similar sort of leaving with things and unexplained. No note or obvious reason. I’ll have a look - thank you.

XelaM · 17/01/2022 09:07

The Asha Degree case was even stranger than Andrew's! She was so young and simply left in the middle of the night with a packed bookbag to walk along a highway in heavy rain for no obvious reason whatsoever. It was so so strange. If only one of the motorists who saw her could have stopped her

BorderlineHappy · 17/01/2022 13:20

ASHA Degree there's 2 trains of thought.
She never left the house and those motorists didn't see her.
Explains why they didn't report it.
Or one of the motorists is the culprit.
And it explains why they didn't report seeing her.

If I was a gambling woman I'd say no 2 is the most likely scenario.

ENoeuf · 17/01/2022 15:09

Interesting - I think number two is more likely, always seemed something a bit off about the sightings.

Whydoyoucareaboutthis · 17/01/2022 15:15

But why would they report seeing her at all?

ENoeuf · 17/01/2022 15:50

In case they were identified as being there? Via phones or something?

Brucebogtrotterswife · 17/01/2022 15:57

Yes, I'm on that subreddit too. Some plausible theories on there. I only saw the live some months after he did it, it is in his public videos. I really hope that poor family get some closure, and Andrews. :(

Whydoyoucareaboutthis · 17/01/2022 16:28

@ENoeuf

She went missing in 2000, no dash cam or smart phones, at best they would be triangulated to an area, plus significant amount of people wouldn't have a phone. Also her things were found in a shed near the area of the woods she ran into.
ENoeuf · 17/01/2022 16:31

Oh right I do t know much about it, I was thinking if I was guilty maybe I would place myself there ‘innocently’

XelaM · 17/01/2022 16:42

It just doesn't make any sense why she would leave her house in the middle of the night with a packed bookbag at all. She was really young, no reason to run away at all, nice family. She was still there at 2:30am and then sighted along the highway on her own in heavy rain at just before 4am. It doesn't make any sense. It's likely she was killed by someone along the highway, but why would she leave her house in the first place? Also, I thought the motorists did report seeing her?

BorderlineHappy · 17/01/2022 16:49

Also, I thought the motorists did report seeing her?

Yes but not straight away.
I find it weird one went back to look for her but still didnt ring the police.

ENoeuf · 17/01/2022 18:11

It’s an absolute mystery - I’ll look for her brothers page , must be agony to have a missing sibling especially if you were together before the disappearance.
