I hope that this latest development gives that poor boy's family answers, terrible as they may be. I can't imagine the hell they've had to live with every day since his disappearance.

Do we think he is alive if the men have been charged with kidnap and trafficking rather than anything more sinister - or am I clutching at straws? He would be 29 now?

XelaM · 11/01/2022 17:29

@ESGdance That's what I thought as well Sad but maybe it's clutching at straws.

Hippywannabe · 11/01/2022 17:37

I read on Reddit once that there was possibility that he may have been groomed at a gifted and talented 'camp' that he attended the previous year.
His poor family, it would be good if they could finally have some answers.
I read an article once by his Dad who said that we have all lost sight of our children for a few seconds and felt that surge of panic and terror but he has been living with that for years.

No-one has been charged with anything. Two men were arrested on suspicion of kidnap and trafficking but have now been released pending further investigation.

They may have nothing to do with Andrew at all. We don't know yet.

Interesting case that I had never heard of until this morning. Will be interesting to see if it leads to anything.

ENoeuf · 11/01/2022 17:45

Oh I hope it doesn’t end up like the development in so many cases where hope is on the horizon and then vanishes.
Recently Katrice Lee, William Tyrell and Claudia Lawrence all looked hopeful and nothing.

@BorderlineHappy

My theory is he was groomed nearer home,as he stopped getting the bus as he was being bullied. He met teh groomer that way, arranged to meet in London, groomer was to give him a lift home.Thats why he only bought a one way.

Also another boy disappeared either before or after Andrew who had went to the same summer camp.

Do you know anything further about the other boy? I've not heard about that.
ArblemarchTFruitbat · 11/01/2022 19:54

Hoping this will lead somewhere and give his family some answers.

girafferafferaffe · 11/01/2022 20:00

I sincerely hope his family gets some answers. They have worked so hard to keep the word out there.

I used to see his face at the train station I went to when I was at uni. That was over a decade ago. I used to search his name occasionally to see if anything had come up.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/01/2022 20:26

So sad. This seems to have been the first kind of lead they've had?

Toddlerteaplease · 11/01/2022 20:28

I remember reading that a return ticket would have only cost him 50p more than a single.

ENoeuf · 11/01/2022 20:39

The other boy is called Alex Sloley (I remember the case but not the name, had to google). Weird it’s not more well known - he was 16 and just vanished on his way home.

megletthesecond · 11/01/2022 20:41

I often think of him and his family. The case is so dad. I do hope they will have some answers one day.

Agree, even poor Andrew is not shared as he should have been when it happened.

Patrick Warren and David Spencer are the most horrendously under reported missing children. The fact that it happened in the 90's and yet no one knew or cared.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 11/01/2022 21:11

I've often thought of him. Poor little lad.

@Whydoyoucareaboutthis agreed. Tragic. Poor loves.

dayswithaY · 11/01/2022 21:37

Amazing that after all this time they have a breakthrough. It does sound like the police don't have enough evidence though or else they would have been charged by now.

Utterly heartbreaking .

@ShirleyPhallus

The poor guy, I hope the family finally gets some answers

Also fantastic for the police to have kept this going and get some answers finally

Yes, 100% agree on both counts
CatrinVennastin · 11/01/2022 22:58

Sadly I think the fact that Alex Sloley is a young black man will have a lot to do with why his case in under reported.

I believe with Andrew Gosden that The Met were asked to look at CCTV from around Kings Cross but left it too long and in those days footage was not routinely stored.

I find it interesting too how reporting on Andrew Gosden often says he knew London well. Visiting family/sightseeing is very different to navigating your way round a city particularly in areas you haven’t been to before.

I say this as someone who has lived here for 20 years. I can find my way round North London but for South London I wouldn’t have a clue as have no reason to go there.

Havilland · 11/01/2022 23:09

His father said that he didn’t find it strange that Andrew bought a single ticket as he had friends in London and if he had planned on staying with them overnight or longer then he would only need a single ticket for the outward journey.

I assume they meant he can use the tube network and was familiar with using buses etc.

October2020 · 12/01/2022 09:01

This really upset me yesterday. His poor family must have been so desperate for news but this isn't the news anyone wants. Unfortunately as one of the men was also arrested for indecent images of children I fear this isn't going to end with a reunion for Andrew and his family. Interesting about the G&T camp, I hadn't heard that before.

Wishing you peace, Andrew, wherever you may be.

Whydoyoucareaboutthis · 12/01/2022 09:11

I (and understand why) always felt that his father was desperate to give reasons for things or justify things because if there was a reason then he was ok.

I just feel so very much for the whole family.

Hemingwayzcatz · 12/01/2022 10:46

I’m the same age as Andrew and had friends who looked a lot like him, also from Yorkshire. I don’t recall hearing about this at the time and only heard about it in a thread on here about missing people a few months ago so read into it. My initial thought was he’d been groomed online and arranged to meet them in London but I then read he had no internet access at home so I was stumped from there on out.

I hope his poor family get some answers, it must be torture for them.
