I hope that this latest development gives that poor boy's family answers, terrible as they may be. I can't imagine the hell they've had to live with every day since his disappearance.

I just watched a clip on You Tube about this case where someone laid down the known facts and ran through various possibilities. After watching this, I am certain he had access to a phone nobody knew about (and probably took with him to London), or someone he knew was part of it (school, or scout group he had recently left).

Apparently the school phoned the wrong number when called his parents to say he hadn't turned up that day. A genuine mistake, or was there something sinister about that? (Of course, it could be totally innocent and a genuine error, but I wonder if this was ever properly looked at).

I think it's very unlikely to be suicide, why would he go all that way to do so? I believe he was groomed, though not sure how as his parents said he wasn't one to use the internet, possibly through his PSP via a chat room, or possibly by a staff member or older student at the university residential he attended. I do hope he is out there well somewhere, and he simply ran away.

I have always been of the opinion that he had a secret phone, too. Perhaps given to him by someone who was grooming him. Explains why he didn't want his own phone replacing when it broke.
Purpleraspberry · 01/02/2022 11:36

@HPLikecraft I agree. I always thought that might be an indication of something that he didn't want the phone replaced.

I read somewhere that he came home from the university residential more upbeat than he usually is. I am thinking it might have all started from there. I think he had arranged to meet a new 'friend' at a gig in London (hence the upbeat behaviour - excitement for the gig), and was going to stay with them overnight (which explains the single train ticket as I'm sure the return the next day wouldn't have been 50p more), but he was sadly really being groomed Sad.

I hope one day his poor family get their answers.

Purpleraspberry · 01/02/2022 11:37

Oops, I forgot to add, this uni 'friend' probably gave him a phone.

HPLikecraft · 01/02/2022 12:40

Yes, exactly @Purpleraspberry. It's a possibility at least.

I think it's very unlikely to be suicide, why would he go all that way to do so?

Agree with this too. Also, suicide victims are usually not very good at hiding their own bodies.

Ah, this is awful, isn't it? His poor family.

LastChristmasIGaveYouMyHeart · 01/02/2022 14:33

The uni summer club was in 2006 and Andrew went missing in Sept 2007. I'm not convinced it was someone he met there, though I wouldn't completely rule it out, it just seems unlikely.

Purpleraspberry · 01/02/2022 16:32

@LastChristmasIGaveYouMyHeart oh I didn't realise there was that much time between them. Perhaps it wasn't there then. I do believe he met someone somewhere who gave him a secret phone.

HPLikecraft · 01/02/2022 16:40

Hmm, I don't know... the fact that it was a while between the camp and his disappearance would mean Andrew trusted someone he met there all the more and felt he'd got to know them well; and for the potential groomer to gradually gain trust, convince and groom Andrew; they were playing a long game.
Also it may have taken a while before the appropriate opportunity for the London visit arose.

Purpleraspberry · 01/02/2022 16:48

@HPLikecraft that is true! Grooming often does take a while before anything sinister happens.

ChampagneCommunist · 27/10/2022 07:32

There doesn't seems to have been any more news since the arrests

dayswithaY · 27/10/2022 08:24

I’m sure I read somewhere that the two suspects had been released without charge due to lack of evidence.

But at least the Leah Croucher case has had some results, although a tragic conclusion and a bit baffling.

dayswithaY · 27/10/2022 08:28

The initial BBC news article on the arrests in January says it will take between 6 and 12 months to analyse mobile phone data. So anytime soon perhaps?

OnaBegonia · 29/10/2022 10:08

@dayswithaY
Very sad, I think it'll be impossible for them to determine exactly what happened with the suspect now deceased.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 29/10/2022 22:52

Indeed.

The circumstances of him going to London that day are baffling......

That cctv picture of him leaving that London mainline station, he looks cool, calm and collected. Like everything was ok.

I wonder when he realised he was in danger ?

I think you have to be careful about pointing the finger at real, actual, living people in the UK.
Andrew’s parents were committed Christians and churchgoers so it’s not surprising they were supported by their family vicar.
You should probably withdraw your post.

Then the correct place to go with the evidence you have which has convinced you that it’s the vicar is the police. Otherwise, baseless speculation about people online isn’t on.
