Am not trying to be Clichy, So forgive the reminiscing.... but my eldest is now 22 and I remember MN becoming a thing about the time she was born, and today she left home good and proper...so it feels over, the whole being a clueless mum thing. The questions on here are on repeat and yet the answers are both the same and yet different as mumsnet was the ONLY social media out there at the time!!.

I Do remember being at work and keeping on clicking on the MN website, where the chats wouldn’t change all day! And then there was an amazing first meet up of all the mums, and I couldn’t make it and felt a bit jealous!

Justine et co must feel so proud of what they have created now, and their babies must also be grown up too, as is this website. Who could have guessed this is where it would be?

It was supportive. I remember a mile for maud, woolly hugs, secret Santa and all the amazing support given to the MNers who have lost children and partners.

Peaseblossum22 · 08/01/2022 22:53

Woolly hugs is still going there was a blanket recently .

YY I also remember Kate and the girls . I think she later met someone else and remarried .

The poster who lived in Paris was Anna888. I think she became BonjourAnna. I always assumed she was Chinese.

TheOriginalNutty · 08/01/2022 23:04

I think I joined in 2003 when ds was about 9 months old. He's 19 now.

Was Nutcracker originally.

Met who I'd now consider to be one of my best mates on here, she was Charliecat.

A580Hojas · 08/01/2022 23:05

I remember your threads 2Falls. It was in the Cotswolds wasn't it?

I0NA · 08/01/2022 23:06

Who was the Irish poster - Mary something ?

And the woman who lived on a small holding ( Croft ) in some remote part of Scotland?

And the woman whose husband was waiting for a heart / lung transplant ? Her sister was on here too.

BIWI · 08/01/2022 23:08

I met so many great MNetters at the London meet-ups. It was definitely a different site 'back in the day'!

Many of them I'm still in touch with, off MN. Many defected to Twitter, some are FB friends - we had a mass move over to FB to explore this new fangled thing, and so I've ended up with many MNetters as FB 'friends', many of whom are no longer on MN.

It's a shame meet ups don't happen any more, but it's inevitable now the site is so big.

Dumbledoresgirl · 08/01/2022 23:11

I saw your name on a thread a few days back @TheOriginalNutty and wondered if that meant you were Nutcracker of old. Smile

Snozzlemaid · 08/01/2022 23:11

Dd was born in 2001 and I joined sometime around then.

My number is 5556

I lurked for a long time but remember Cod well and in particular Misdee and Pink Peter's heart transplant.

I remember doing the local mile for maude. Getting drunk with custy on a local meet up. There was bad stuff, well known posters scamming mn for money. For one. And i had a thread go absolutely pearshape. Really bad, back then there was no one at mn hq on the weekends. That was a long weekend...
blinkbonny · 08/01/2022 23:17

I think I joined with DD1 who is approaching 24 - eek! My user number is in the low 4000s so I guess my memory is correct.

I'm an intermittent poster and name-changer, more frequent reader, and Mumsnet has given - and continues to give - me a lot of support, counsel, information, giggles and eyerolls over the years. I've never met anyone from Mumsnet in real life and not sure what it would be like to - I feel the anonymity breeds a special honesty that would be hard to replicate in real life.

I0NA · 08/01/2022 23:17

YY the Mile for Maude Flowers

KurtWilde · 08/01/2022 23:17

2009 for me, led here when my now exh started being dodgy with his phone. The general consensus was he was having - at the very least an ea - and that turned out to be true. 13 years and a few name changes later and I'm still here!

merrygoround51 · 08/01/2022 23:18

I joined in 2007 and loved the site for many years but have been on less frequently over the past few years. It seemed less tribal and confrontational and even those characters who might polarise slightly like le queen, expat, Xenia or Bonsoir were fun and interesting.
There was a lot of fawning though, and posters putting their grand homes and families pics on their profiles which even in those innocent days was very strange

Yes. Bourton on the water. Never been back!
Peaseblossum22 · 08/01/2022 23:22

Xenia posts regularly on the higher Ed boards . The Dr was a long running story, I think it all fell apart when she gave birth to twins at work or something and then left them to go skiing , or something like that Grin

jocktamsonsbairn · 08/01/2022 23:27

2006 for me!

Arseanall · 08/01/2022 23:33

I’ve name changed a lot but I’ve been here since 2001, my user number is in the low thousands. I remember:

Princesspeahead unmasking JudgeFlounce as a troll and not a lawyer after he kept posting about Tie Rack and other manly shops

Peter’s heart transplant

Early meet ups and photos being emailed afterwards and everyone fascinated to see what people looked like IRL

It was a lifeline and taught me a lot. There aren’t any posters I consider ‘real’ friends although I’m connected to some on Facebook and have met quite a few people over the years.

Lacedwithgrace · 08/01/2022 23:47

I'm a brand new member compared to some of these! I joined 8/9 years ago and only recently came back. It's changed a lot, not all for good. Mn was the first to hear when I lost my daughter so I'll never fully abandon this ship

CovidCorvid · 09/01/2022 06:52

The lady on the small holding was GentleOtter
GADDay · 09/01/2022 07:00

August 2001 for me (different username)

Itsnotdeep · 09/01/2022 07:00

2003 for me. My number is 12700. I joined around the same time as Cod I think - I joined when my third child was born as I was looking for a skiing holiday I could take them all on. That child went to university last year. (I had a different name back then).

I remember reading a long-running thread called Support for Spook.

Amortentia · 09/01/2022 07:14

I came here late 2002 but hated the format of the board so stuck with handbag.com. Then went on to damsels but moved over here as damsels dwindled.

Hassled · 09/01/2022 07:33

I was another of the 2006 cohort - I read about the "Rockets to Lebanon"/MorningPaper thing and thought that sounds like a fun place. It coincided with me becoming a SAHM after DC4 and for a long time - years - I was obsessed. Mumsnet gave me so many laughs and so much company in what really, looking back, was a very lonely, bleak time for me.

Now that youngest child is at Uni, I have grandchildren and a demanding job, and when I do lurk, threads don't resonate in the way they used to - although I still dip in and out and there's always something that makes me pause to think, or giggle.
