Anyone else here been on MN since it started?

Am not trying to be Clichy, So forgive the reminiscing.... but my eldest is now 22 and I remember MN becoming a thing about the time she was born, and today she left home good and proper...so it feels over, the whole being a clueless mum thing. The questions on here are on repeat and yet the answers are both the same and yet different as mumsnet was the ONLY social media out there at the time!!.

I Do remember being at work and keeping on clicking on the MN website, where the chats wouldn’t change all day! And then there was an amazing first meet up of all the mums, and I couldn’t make it and felt a bit jealous!

Justine et co must feel so proud of what they have created now, and their babies must also be grown up too, as is this website. Who could have guessed this is where it would be?

Ah... found my number: 38438

CharCharGabor · 09/01/2022 18:09

This thread brings back some memories! I joined in 2007 but I've been away for a while now. I remember moldies, the scandal of cvq and many people mentioned on here.

prettybird · 09/01/2022 18:11

Just checked: my number is 3261, so I have been on here a long time Blush

I went to a couple of the early MN Meet-ups (not the first one but ones after them) so I've met BIWI (who is lovely Smile) and quite a few others. Also met Zombie who was a force of nature, RIP Sad

Also organised and/or went to a few Glasgow/Scottish meet-ups both in summer and special very boozy Blush Christmas meet-ups. Not a hairy trucker at any of them - unless they'd shaved their arms very well Wink

A lovely MNer offered to put dh, ds and me up for a few days as the Olympic cycling was passing by close to where she lived and she knew ds (who was 11 at the time) was a keen cyclist. We had a fabulous time and I am forever grateful for her hospitality ThanksWine. We did arrange to meet up a few months beforehand when I was down at London Wine Fair so that we knew we were real people. We'd also become Facebook friends by that time.

@CharCharGabor remind me about the CVQ scandal?

MrsJBaptiste · 09/01/2022 18:56

I used to be on the BBC Being a Parent board and came over here when someone said check out AIBU - it was completely different to the slow pace of the BBC boards!

The first thread I read was "What shall I wear to do the school run?" I'm pleased to see that 16 years later, this question still gets asked at least once a week! 😁

Pan2 · 09/01/2022 20:04

2fallsfrom SSA - yes policywonk was sooo damned intelligent and energetic, just fabulous.
PAFMO - wow! That was me! I cant recall how we got round to talking about it, but yes, Mary Coughlan at various points including Manchester. I'd had an exchange from a fan in Galway last week who says her voice is holding up and due to do a show in the coming weeks. Thank you for remembering this,

Oblomov22 · 09/01/2022 20:26

There are loads of people who have been here from the start, of 2000, or the early days, around. It's obvious who they are. I think I joined in 2005. I went to a couple of Meet Ups.

Lovely to hear! I can't remember either, whether it was an 80s folky thread, or a Manchester gig thread, though I have a vague recollection of the lyrics to Double Cross being dissected! Hope you are well.

@RainbowConnection1

Does anyone know how TrintiyRhino is doing? She went through such awful times and I think of her and her DC often.

I think about TrinityRhino too. I think it was her DD with the odd socks? I often think of that (I have no issues with odd sicks) Grin

imnottoofussed · 10/01/2022 09:46

Found my number and seem to be from pretty early on. Number 3439. However I mostly read mumsnet and don't post a lot

FI0N · 10/01/2022 09:54

@LynetteScavo

TrinityRhino’s husband was tragically killed in a road traffic accident in his work van. After that she has some kind of breakdown and struggled to care for her children - social services were involved.

I don’t know how it all turned out but I know it was 100% genuine as the accident was in the local papers.

I hope she and her kids are doing ok now.

SoupDragon · 10/01/2022 09:58

I think she popped back on one of these sorts of threads and they were doing OK, albeit with some issues.

Eve · 10/01/2022 10:46

Found my number - 861.

prettybird · 10/01/2022 10:46

A few MNers went down to help TrinityRhino sort her house when she got overwhelmed with everything that had happened. She's got a few health issues but is going ok - as are her awesome kids Smile

CountessDracula · 10/01/2022 12:01

@SofiaAmes

Pretty sure I've been here since 2000 or early 2001 right after DS was born. Number is 6433. Internet forums were so new back then and I was so out of it that I used my real name as my user name. I was renting a house out a few years later from abroad and the woman knew it couldn't be a scam because when she googled me all she found was loads of posts about breastfeeding on Mumsnet.
Oh Sofia I remember your house threads! I am number 10577 - does anyone know what the most recent number is? Interested to know how many members there have been
LynetteScavo · 10/01/2022 12:35

@FI0N - yes I remember - it was the social worker who said TrinityRhino's DD shouldn't be wearing odd socks. There was a very long thread about it. I think the outcome was that middle class parents don't trend to bother about matching socks, where as working class parents think it very important to have matching socks.

I thought she lived in Scotland, when you say down do you mean she lived in the South?

Funny how you get ideas about posters that are totally wrong Smile

PAFMO · 10/01/2022 14:22

Trinity is in Scotland.
She's still around on here sometimes, variations of the Trinity name.

prettybird · 10/01/2022 14:24

@cyvguhb - I live in Glasgow, she is "down" from the Central Belt Grin

MirandaWest · 10/01/2022 14:28

Found my registration number - 13225.

Quarks69 · 11/01/2022 18:25

What’s really disturbing is that You can read all the posts you have ever written. So looking back at the start, I notice all my posts start with a name, as I am —arguing the toss— Chatting to a specific person each time.

Shame they can’t be deleted, seem mortifying now!!

I just looked back at my first posts in 2002 and found a thread where someone asked a male poster why they were here given they were a man 😂😂 Some things never change!

Have you always been SoupDragon, @SoupDragon?

Fordian · 11/01/2022 21:39

Fascinating. I've been on MN since 2004.

Absolute godsend. Wasn't invited into Moldies 🥲😂. I've deregistered a couple of times; name-changed several- I think I was Miljee originally? Got thrown out once, almost (threatened, I flounced- I now know I was right; MN modding was 'work-experience' back then)- aaaand- stalked, 4-5 years ago. MN deleted all my old threads for me, then, thankfully. I still hate her!😂).

It has evolved; it's been hugely successful. But like many, I miss the cameraderie of early MN.

And the lack of professional offence taking that stalks so many threads, now.

SoupDragon · 11/01/2022 22:48

I've had a few* "throwaway" user names

  • loads and loads and loads 😂 mostly for joke threads
