Am not trying to be Clichy, So forgive the reminiscing.... but my eldest is now 22 and I remember MN becoming a thing about the time she was born, and today she left home good and proper...so it feels over, the whole being a clueless mum thing. The questions on here are on repeat and yet the answers are both the same and yet different as mumsnet was the ONLY social media out there at the time!!.

I Do remember being at work and keeping on clicking on the MN website, where the chats wouldn’t change all day! And then there was an amazing first meet up of all the mums, and I couldn’t make it and felt a bit jealous!

Justine et co must feel so proud of what they have created now, and their babies must also be grown up too, as is this website. Who could have guessed this is where it would be?

I must've been here on and off for about 20 years with lots of name changes. I remember Sirtophamhat, Cod and was it Lupin or little lupin? There was also a poster with a daughter with special needs. I think she left because the media got hold of her story.
I think I preferred it when it was much smaller despite a few prolific posters dominating it.
It always used to puzzle me why a poster's (Mars?) lemon drizzle cake recipe was shared like she'd invented something spectacular but it was the same as every other recipe! Grin

I joined when my youngest started school and he's 24 now. I was called BunchofFives for ages.

I remember Raven and Shineonyoucrazydiamond or something like that and Queen something. I remember the early posters were so funny and clever. There was a lot less moaning and Friday nights were great on here with lots of laughs.

I remember messaging mn suggesting there was a DV sticky on relationships after reading some really shocking threads.

I’ve been here since 2000 and my user number is 1554. I namechange regularly now but at the start had the same name for quite a few years. In the early years I remember coming into work on a Monday and being able to read all the weekend’s posts in 30 minutes (I rarely logged on at home because of the slow dial up connection)

I0NA · 08/01/2022 21:54

Poster with the Dd with special needs was Riven, not raven.

And yes, LittleLapin, cod and SirTophamHat. Cod was funny but often very blunt, a bit like AnyFucker now. I actually know who Cod was in RL .

We also had a troll called Lavenderrrrrrr.

And a bat

LynetteScavo · 08/01/2022 21:57

I think I've been here since 2006. I definitely had a number- I've just tried to find what it is, and realised I have an arsenal of over 70 user names. Blush I was never brave enough to go to the Christmas meet-ups. I thought everybody would be supper confident and have "huge norks" in their sequenced dresses.

Cod definitely had a unique writing style! I think she would have terrified me in real life Grin
LynetteScavo · 08/01/2022 22:03

I found Cod on another social media platform, and she really isn't scary when you can see her. She's also learned to type so could be hiding among us

LaurieFairyCake · 08/01/2022 22:06

I've been here since 2004/5 I think - only occasional seasonal name changes Smile

Abraxan · 08/01/2022 22:06

I joined in Jan 2003 when dd was a year old.
Have had name changes during that time though, and now use an entirely different account to back then.

CovidCorvid · 08/01/2022 22:07

Dd is 21yo and I’ve been here since she was a small baby.

I can certainly remember the times when you used to read stuff in the morning and then log on again in the afternoon and be disappointed that there were no new posts. Iirc there was a “new post” button which would bring up all the posts made since you last logged on?

You could pay an annual fee to “Cat” other posters.

You really felt you knew people, you’d recognise the majority of the posters and know stuff about them, who their kids were, ages of kids, hobbies, etc.

I think she still uses MN, I’m fairly sure I saw her on s&b only about a year ago.

We had some epic trolls back in the day. Who was the legal one….JudgeDredd??

thenightsky · 08/01/2022 22:15

where do I find my number?

I think I joined around 2003 when DS was driving me crazy with his school skiving and DD was 16 and had taken up with a 30 year old boyfriend. I remember tearing my hair out and MN calming me down.

thenightsky · 08/01/2022 22:16

And I was so glad to find MN, then it was about to be snatched away by SWSNBND who was trying to close it down.

theNumbersStation · 08/01/2022 22:19

corvid

There were a couple of very memorable posters I recall.
One ovine. One sounded similar to an owl.

jazzandh · 08/01/2022 22:19

Been here since 2004/5! DS1 now learning to drive!

  1. I have had 2 DC and a divorce since then. I have name changed many times and now prefer the anonymity of a user name. Had a pretty eventful 12/13 years. I've met (irl) some amazing MNetters and feel very lucky to call them friends.

I spend way too much of my time on this bloody site though! Blush. It certainly keeps me sane and from being alone with my thoughts quite frankly.

CovidCorvid · 08/01/2022 22:33

@PineappleDumpling. That’s the one!

2fallsfromSSA · 08/01/2022 22:36

I joined in 2006. Initially for BF suppprt but got sucked in. I also followed aitch's BLW blog. I wonder what happened to her - is she still around?

It was a much smaller place and you did get to know people much more easily. I remember watching the car crash of mouldies over that christmas but it didn't impact me. I was never a particularly well known poster but I recognise some names here as being of my time. I always hated the queen bee-ing and the "popular" poster threads and stayed away.

My must "famous" thread was when I posted about getting physically pushed out of a shop with dd was was 3 as she'd been touching the tester lipsticks. I was pg with dd2 (now 11). Without MN I would never have pressed charges.

2fallsfromSSA · 08/01/2022 22:38

@Dumbledoresgirl @LynetteScavo and Tiredemma. Recognise your user names!

Peaseblossum22 · 08/01/2022 22:44

Does anyone remember the Doctor in Paris with loads of children, I think that turned out to be a troll!

But there was also a very interesting poster with a dd who lived in Paris as well. I always think of Kateandthegirls on 9/11 and remember posters such as Prufrock and ghosty(?) who left her husband . Bluebear was so helpful when my ds was undergoing investigations for genetic issues. The cliqueness could be a problem but you also felt part of a supportive community then.
