Am not trying to be Clichy, So forgive the reminiscing.... but my eldest is now 22 and I remember MN becoming a thing about the time she was born, and today she left home good and proper...so it feels over, the whole being a clueless mum thing. The questions on here are on repeat and yet the answers are both the same and yet different as mumsnet was the ONLY social media out there at the time!!.

I Do remember being at work and keeping on clicking on the MN website, where the chats wouldn’t change all day! And then there was an amazing first meet up of all the mums, and I couldn’t make it and felt a bit jealous!

Justine et co must feel so proud of what they have created now, and their babies must also be grown up too, as is this website. Who could have guessed this is where it would be?

I joined in 2006 when Expecting and remember joining one of the antenatal threads. Was really nice and supportive. We even had a meet up which was nice, and had a secret Santa one year iirc.

cyvguhb · 08/01/2022 17:44

Name changed for this.

My number is under 1000. I joined when my eldest was born in 1999 and posted for a while but had 2 more children in quick sucession so didn't have much time for the internet. I came back when they were late secondary age and didn't need me as much.

I read most days but don't post much as there are too many threads where posters are shocked by trivial events or raging about minor issues and I can't muster up the enthusiasm to care.

MadameFantabulosa · 08/01/2022 17:49

I joined in 2002. I have made some really good friends through Mumsnet, including people I’ve been on holiday with. (This is a recent name change.)

I'm feeling nostalgic at the references to the Moldies scandal. I remember how flipping insane it was that we all got so worked up about it. But now I look back on that as a period of sanity, because all the tribalism and hurt and cancelling and anger just stayed inside the play zone of a web forum, instead of spitting venom outside into real life and politics in the way that social media craziness does these days.

costamum · 08/01/2022 18:13

Just over 20 years - I discovered Mumsnet just after my DS1 was born in 2001 when I was living in Spain. My number is 12493.

Opal8 · 08/01/2022 18:15

2006 for me

Many nn changes

Left twice but came back:)

3teens2cats · 08/01/2022 18:16

My eldest is just turning 22 and I joined mumsnet after watching the tv show while on maternity. I can't remember what it was called but it was Carrie and Justine visiting mums and helping them with baby and toddler problems.

AnneOfAvonlea · 08/01/2022 18:16

About 16 or 17 years I think. Not sure what my reg number is. No idea how to find it. I name change every year or two

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 08/01/2022 18:18

I joined in 2007.

I read the she-who-must-not-be-named books and thought no way am I ever doing C.I.O

You never hear about GF anymore , has she disappeared?

I remember the penguin enclosure date thread and penis beaker.

I remember CatThiefKeith Sad

and until people mentioned it upthread, I had forgotten about handbag and ivillage Shock feels old

DobbyTheHouseElk · 08/01/2022 18:22

Joined in 2010. Went to the GP because I was pregnant and didn’t know what to do next. He told me to join MN.

caddyshackGirl · 08/01/2022 18:22

Started in 2000 on Babycentre being a mod for one of their forums and often read MN but didn't post for a long time

I've also had several logins as lost passwords and unable to access as email address no longer valid so could reset

I think this login is the longest one I've had but change name often

Maggiesgirl · 08/01/2022 18:25

I I think mine was about 6 and is now 25. I deregister for while then came back.

I remember the Bar and Lissies Tea Room. Cod.

Flowers and her addicted Foster baby then a few years later, Flowers subcoming to cancer.

Expat losing her beautiful girl, as did Maude' parents

Peter and his successful transplant and them going on to have more children.

So many other things too.

LoudSnoringDog · 08/01/2022 18:26

My eldest is 21 and I joined when he was 3 I think. I was Tiredemma then.

leccybill · 08/01/2022 18:26

Joined in 2008. Saw me through babyhood, toddlerhood and (unsuccessful) fertility treatment. Left for a while when it seemed to be all feminism/trans issues but been enjoying it again this year as I navigate the tricky teen years.

Remember cod and Riven, cupoftea and the teaset, and a member whose daughter Mia had passed. Think of them often.

Also cutted up pear, and pram in the hallway.

brittanyfairies · 08/01/2022 18:27

My baby will be 20 this year so I've been here since 2002 but am not a prolific poster. I'm also an expat mum so it was a very good way of not feeling so isolated abroad with a new baby. I loved moldies, I lost days to that nonsense Grin

ajandjjmum · 08/01/2022 18:39

I joined when 28 yo DD was having hassle with a girl at school, and I didn't know how to handle it. She was 11/12 at the time.

I got hooked while misdee was waiting for Peter's new heart - no-one ever had so many women wishing them well!

woulducouldushouldu · 08/01/2022 18:41

2001 when I was pregnant with dd1. Changed emails and had to reregister around 2004 but otherwise have been posting intermittently

Cocoabutterformula · 08/01/2022 18:41

My DT's are nearly 20 now and joined when they were 2.5 years old so around 2004/2005. I did love the way Cod wrote, I offered to look for a scarf for her locally and we texted, she gave me her real name and I think you just wouldn't do that now. She had her cats name, place she lived, occupation etc all out there on the forum. We were all so naive I think. I change my username constantly now whereas I had the same one for about a decade initially. I got mnet to delete everything I'd ever posted under that name as realised how easy it would be for someone to work out who I was if they wanted to. It's sad really, I like the anonymity now and hated the cliqueiness back then .... and yet it's sad we don't 'know' each other anymore.

Roussette · 08/01/2022 18:49

I'm number 26,100

A heck of a time! I wish MN had been around when mine were little, they are now in their 30's!

It was so so different back then. You really got to know posters.
