Phrases you hate reading on mumsnet

Ohmycron · 08/01/2022 12:38

I’ve been on mumsnet for about 18 years and you know what, if I read about people putting ducks in a row once more I might go mental.
What phrase do you hate.

OP posts:
cardoon · 08/01/2022 13:49

@eddiemairswife

"Didn't want to read and run." by people who have nothing to say, but want to sound sympathetic, (and see their name on the screen)
THIS
intdas · 08/01/2022 13:49

'put my big girl pants on' makes me cringe

Lollypop701 · 08/01/2022 13:49

Unhinged irks me… op can you post link to the post you like!

Angrymum22 · 08/01/2022 13:49

“Like comparing apples and oranges”
They are both fruits, sweet, juicy, acidic and grow on trees. The difference is the very superficial colour.

weleasewoderick23 · 08/01/2022 13:50

As a pp has said: why did you have children with him? Totally irrelevant and stupid. What do you expect the op to do? Send them back?

Usually said by someone smug Angry

whatsupluckyducky · 08/01/2022 13:51

carpet picnic/buffet

coronabeer · 08/01/2022 13:51

Happy mum = happy baby. No it doesn't.

Agree with whoever put "mental load" or "emotional work".

And, dare I say it, over use of the phrase "mental health". Sometimes we just have to put up with people we don't much like or sub-optimal situations. These days, seems these things aren't viewed as minor irritations, but threats to people's "mental health".

florentina1 · 08/01/2022 13:52

Long term poster . No one cares how long you have been here. What relevance is 18 years?

TopTabby · 08/01/2022 13:52

Oh God @mafted, I forgot about 'You do realise...
I heat it in my dm's voice & it gives me the rage every time!

BleuJay · 08/01/2022 13:52

‘This too shall pass.’

Completely unhelpful and trite.

The poster is having a hard time at that precise moment and wants help now so being told this naff comment is going to do nothing to help them in any way.

DontWantTheRivalry · 08/01/2022 13:52

I’m with you OP……”Get your ducks in a row” is the most annoying and the most stupid thing I ever see written on MN.

It gives me the rage like nothing else.

HoldingTheDoor · 08/01/2022 13:52

Fed is best

I don't care what you feed your baby with but it's such a stupid saying.

butterpuffed · 08/01/2022 13:54

"I laughed so hard I spat my tea out" No you DIDN'T.

People who quote an unnecessarily long post and just put 'This'

You do you 🤮

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/01/2022 13:55

@DropYourSword

Place marking

ODFOD (although not seen this in a good while!)

“Got form” for something

“Reader”

Now, I like a well placed ODFOD
100problems · 08/01/2022 13:55

@Sparklingbrook

If DH says "it is what it is" (typically accompanied by an exaggerated shrug), it's more like "STFU 100, it's not something I give enough shits to do anything about"

TheUnexpectedPickle · 08/01/2022 13:55

Any reference to place marking.

And breath

😩😂

Squiff70 · 08/01/2022 13:56

"Baby danced" as a reference for having sex, usually in the hope of conceiving. Makes me shudder.

OhWhyNot · 08/01/2022 13:56

Nope always irritates me

Usually followed by a smug or patronising statement

Or when the op is asking for advice and what is given is I wouldn’t put up with that followed by how they never put up with xyz or people wouldn’t dare to say/do that to them Hmm it’s about the op not you you self absorbed idiot

HPLikecraft · 08/01/2022 13:57

As per a PP "Spidey senses" - ridiculous.

And "Wind your neck in" conjures up a hideous image of a fishing rod type thing with an extended neck and head at the end for me. Horrible.

I had "Do you struggle with comprehension generally?" asked of me when I disagreed with someone. My response may have contained a bit of swearing.

Jjjayfee · 08/01/2022 13:57

Pfb

Yes that too. Grin It's definitely to close the conversation down and confirmation nothing is going to even attempt to be done.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 08/01/2022 13:59

Boils my piss.

It's revolting and there are so many better phrases that could be used.
