Phrases you hate reading on mumsnet

I’ve been on mumsnet for about 18 years and you know what, if I read about people putting ducks in a row once more I might go mental.
What phrase do you hate.

OP posts:
SixDinners · 08/01/2022 20:06

Just woke the baby/DH/ cat up laughing.

Just spat out my tea.

Yeah. Course you didHmm

Toofuckingearly · 08/01/2022 20:09

I luffs 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Rainbowbrite2022 · 08/01/2022 20:19

Picky bits isn’t a mumsnet saying. It was being used years before I read here. It doesn’t offend me either

slashlover · 08/01/2022 20:21

@Ohmycron

What is line eyes? Is it this 🤤
Posting a picture of a pregnancy test, and more recently a lateral flow test, and asking if people can see a line.

Usually ends up with people arguing as half are adamant that they see a line and the other half insisting there is nothing there.

I haven't seen it for a while, but - "Does he have a solid gold/diamond-studded dick?" in reference to a man who the OP is staying with despite his apparently having no redeeming features. Why would a solid gold dick be a plus point? It's not as if you could cash it in without cutting it off and it wouldn't be very pleasant to have sex with. It could even be quite dangerous if it was diamond-studded.

@SortMyHouse

Get a lawyer. Get lawyered up. Fools! we don't have lawyers in UK. Solicitors, barristers yes - no lawyers.
Don’t be daft. Both solicitors and barristers are types of lawyer.
BorisKilledMyHusband · 08/01/2022 20:30

Tinkly. Fucking. Laugh.

Nobody did tinkly fucking laughs back in the olden days of MN.

Say it how it is without hiding behind a passive aggressive laugh.

EarringsandLipstick · 08/01/2022 20:33

I agree with as many of the phrases here being annoying, as I disagree.

I find the entire thread annoying tho (yeah, I know I'm reading it & commenting on it). It's been done to death, for starters. I'm on MN only since 2017, and I've seen this thread numerous times.

Like any forum, there'll be commonly (and therefore overly) used phrases.

Equally because it is forum, ie requires the written word, and the topics are broadly similar, phrases will get used repeatedly to communicate.

If we gathered up all the phrases that annoy people, and eliminated them, there would actually be no way to communicate here!

EarringsandLipstick · 08/01/2022 20:36

And I would say, despite my own pet peeves, I'm impressed daily with posters' eloquence, humour & insight.

I owe MN a lot, and that's based on threads using 'LTB', 'gaslighting' 'is he usually ....'. They are commonly used for a reason.

You do you 👀

ChinookPilotsGoVertical · 08/01/2022 20:43

Definitely hate people calling pets "fur babies". How come that's OK but I called a child a "skin dog" & suddenly I'm the worst paediatrician in the hospital?

Blubbergalore · 08/01/2022 20:47

@HoldingTheDoor

This isn't a phrase and it's unfair but people referring to three and four year olds as toddlers really bugs me.
Absolutely this ^^
Blubbergalore · 08/01/2022 20:48

@LagerthaofKattegat

Also

Snuggling with the DC on the sofa with a hot chocolate

Totally impractical anyway. It would get spilled in my house.

Come on, you mean "hot choc" surely 😉

You DO realise...

Give your head a wobble.

Have a word with yourself.

Well, you sound nice!

Also, overuse of words like 'grim', 'vile', 'selfish' and the C word.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/01/2022 20:56

Little man.

BessieBlue · 08/01/2022 20:57

Not a phrase but posting a ultrasound image of a 12 week fetus and asking what the sex is.

mjf981 · 08/01/2022 20:57

‘Didn’t want to read and run....’

Hate it. Irrelevant. Comes across as ‘I’m very busy and important, but my opinion is so valuable, I’m going to squeeze it in before I have to rush off again. Lucky you!’

IcedPurple · 08/01/2022 21:00

Anybody else love the 'Well, I just showed this thread to my DH and he said..." threads?

Like I give a toss about the opinion of some random's 'DH'. Strikes me as 'Listen up ladies. A man has spoken' stuff.

mjf981 · 08/01/2022 21:04

@CrimbleCrumble1

We’ve done Croatia, why not say we’ve been to Croatia?
Oh yes this. You’ve done what to Croatia?! It makes no sense.

I posted this earlier today on this thread but this is how I see 'Didn't want to read and run' (but I've never typed it myself) --

I disagree about 'Didn't want to read and run' I look at it that someone has seen a post that has had no replies, doesn't know what to say or how to help but acknowledged the thread and simultaneously bumped it for people that can help.

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2022 21:07

Meaning the 'read and run' is not because they're too busy to reply but because they're leaving that thread to look at others they can comment on.
