Who the hell are their buyers. Who in their right mind things faux leather shorts are suitable clothes for 4 year old girls. Can we stop with the sexualised clothing for little girls. its just fucking awful
What 4 year old girls need are hard wearin,g comfortable shorts in a decent length, with pockets for their toys not hooker pants.

Grim as fuck.

CJsGoldfish · 02/01/2022 09:15

They don't seem tight or overly short and look more like a 'dressy' pair of shorts rather than the casual (and tight btw) pair below.
Neither pair of shorts would bother me because they are shorts. 🤷‍♀️
Who decided they are 'sexualised' because I really think they are the problem here?

Bunnybunny1 · 02/01/2022 09:15

I wouldn’t buy them because they’re disgusting.
I think you think of leather as sexual. I’ve always thought of it as dated and old people’s idea of sexual.

My daughter would love these. I can't get worked up over it personally. I love clothes and dressing in fun and different ways and my daughter has picked up on that too. She is happy and confident and one day will be in leggings and a Disney hoodie and another day will want to wear skinny jeans and a crop top, or a dress and tights. We have fun with our appearance. I think it's ok.

lesenfantsdelesperance · 02/01/2022 09:19

I wouldn't buy them. Why are they so short? Boys shorts used to be shorter but now they are all Bermuda style, why do they make girls' shorts like this. I would never buy them because I would like my four year old to be comfortable, and plastic is good for raincoats and little else when you are. These are plastic and bulky and would be uncomfortable.

Omicrone · 02/01/2022 09:19

I don't really see them as sexual either. Loads of girls wear shorts and tights underneath, my DD loves to wear it, it looks smart whilst also being really comfortable. The pleather doesn't make it sexual either, unless you think leather is sexual (leather jackets are sexual?)

My main problem is, like PP, the fast fashion and the fact that these shorts will probably end up in landfill very quickly.

girlmom21 · 02/01/2022 09:20

These would look awful on anyone at any age but they're certainly not 'sexualising' children. That says more about you than the people buying these clothes IMO.

Thewiseoneincognito · 02/01/2022 09:26

My question is, who actually buys clothes from Sainsbury’s?

Those shorts are not even leather either 😳 🙈

DD was actually bought some really cute, practical clothes from sainsburys for Xmas
LynetteScavo · 02/01/2022 09:31

Oh my life, I've not be thinking of leather or pleather as a sexual fabric. It's flown right over my head. I'm now thinking back to Teresa May in her leather trousers in a whole different light!

The shorts aren't I my taste personally, but with tights, chunky boots and a baggy jumper I wouldn't in anyway think they were "hooker pants". Hooker pants? Seriously OP, can you not see what you did there?

I do wonder about land infill with all the pleather clothing around at the moment. I imagine items of pleather shorts being dug up in 2000 years by archaeologists and put on view in a museum because they're still in new condition.

Would I buy them? Probably not. Would I raise an eyebrow if a parent had chosen to put their child in them for a smart occasion? No I wouldn't. Do I think they're horrid? Yes, but not because they're sexualising children. But as I said, this whole sexual pleather thing seems to have gone over my head.

Sainsburys have some great clothes! What’s wrong with buying clothes from there?
ancientgran · 02/01/2022 09:32

I would think some paedophiles are more attracted to traditional little girl fashions (or little boy fashions) because they are attracted to children. Some might like children dressed in a more adult way and some won't. I don't think you can protect or endanger a child because of clothing choices.

My first thought with leather shorts is lederhosen. So not sexual as far as I'm concerned.

As to the hooker reference, I used to work for the vice squad in my local police force. I can't remember a single woman being brought in wearing leather (or pleather) shorts so I'm not sure why people make a connection with hookers.

LynetteScavo · 02/01/2022 09:36

This is how Sainsbury's describe them:

They'll feel like a mini model in these fab faux leather shorts. They're just perfect for party season and will look amazing with some chunky cable knit tights and a little sparkly jumper. With a tie belt waist and little turn ups they're definitely too cool for school! Just add attitude.

ancientgran · 02/01/2022 09:38

Well I'm old and I've never thought of leather as sexual.
KevinTheKoala · 02/01/2022 09:38

These shorts would be paired with tights and a jumper most of the time, it's not sexualised and they would have a softer fabric layer inside making them very easy to run about and play in - and keep the child warm. There are far worse items on sale for little girls and over sexualised clothes are everywhere but these I don't see as a problem. I have more of an issue with crop tops and hot pants in the summer.

Akire · 02/01/2022 09:39

They are awful, I hate girls shorts that stop half inch lower than their crotch. Why the need to be so short short? I’m not saying they need to be as long as boys for “fashion” but how is making an item with 3-4 inches long really that unacceptable? I don’t want see any child’s bottom hanging out and if they are carrying any extra weight you will see when they walk as you do with women who wear teeny tiny shorts.

LadyWithLapdog · 02/01/2022 09:40

"hooker pants", really, OP?

You sound like Mary Whitehouse. Look her up, I'm assuming you're American from the use of the term "pants".

Stop obsessing over what twisted minds might obsess over.

AsYouWishButtercup · 02/01/2022 09:44

My DD would have worn these over tights at that age. What’s sexual about it, apart from the weirdos making it sexual? They’re a pair of shorts, not a pair of chaps FFS

AsYouWishButtercup · 02/01/2022 09:46

@disneydreaming

I don't think anyone would buy these shorts for day to day wear but I expect most parents would pair with black tights underneath for a party...I really can't see the issue? What sexualised about shorts on a child even if they a leather?
Precisely - leather isn’t sexual unless I missed a memo?

Do you all pearl clutch about girls in shorts in general?

NotQuiteHere · 02/01/2022 09:46

All associations (hooker pants) are your personal problem.

AlwaysLatte · 02/01/2022 09:47

Dreadful!

AsYouWishButtercup · 02/01/2022 09:50

Well, yes. Obviously they should. But there are nonces and perverts bloody everywhere so personally I'm not going to take the risk

And you think dressing your child in trousers and cardigans is going to deter ‘nonces’ Hmm it’s disturbing some peoples views on here.

DurhamDurham · 02/01/2022 09:50

I don't particularly like the shorts myself but if I saw a little girl wearing them at a party with black tights, ankle boots and a jumper I don't think it would look wrong or sexualised.
If I saw a little girl in them at the park while jumping and climbing then I'd think they were inappropriate for the occasion but still not sexualised.

AsYouWishButtercup · 02/01/2022 09:51

If you all think shorts are sexual, what do you dress your kids in during heatwaves??
