Who the hell are their buyers. Who in their right mind things faux leather shorts are suitable clothes for 4 year old girls. Can we stop with the sexualised clothing for little girls. its just fucking awful
What 4 year old girls need are hard wearin,g comfortable shorts in a decent length, with pockets for their toys not hooker pants.

Girls clothes are awful

We've always got most of my daughters stuff in the boys section cause she's not into pink unicorns, showing of her midriff or her bum.

liveforsummer · 02/01/2022 11:04

@homealoneagain1 I don't get those going for the practicality angle either - these look soft snd flexible - easy to run and climb in, far more than denim and as a pp has just said wipeable and pretty unstainable too

liveforsummer · 02/01/2022 11:06

Also what does a 'mini adult' look like? . Lots of adults dress in leggings and t shirts. Does that then mean kids shouldn't?

yes like lederhosen

MrsLargeEmbodied · 02/01/2022 11:15

worn with thick tights as advertised, better than a leather skirt.

Omicrone · 02/01/2022 11:18

I don't know why a lot of people say girls clothes are uncomfortable though. My DD lives in leggings, all different colours, prints etc
Super comfortable, allows for full range of motion, and appropriate. Only really appear in the 'girls' section.

ancientgran · 02/01/2022 11:20

@Omicrone

As a PP said, if fabric is irrelevant, do you really think a punter is going to mind a dominatrix dressed in gingham, or how about a nice dress made of fleece?

There will definitely be punters out there who like a dominatrix dressed in gingham and fleece! Grin

Exactly, not to mention that paedophiles aren't likely to be looking for a dominatrix in a 6 or 7 year old.
eagerlywaitingfor · 02/01/2022 11:20

I can't imagine all that many little girls that age liking them to be honest.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 02/01/2022 11:21

i can imagine my dd liking them with thick tights, they are black and shiney

liveforsummer · 02/01/2022 11:22

I know lots of little girls as I have some who have lots of little girl friends and work with lots also. I know loads who would like them.

Plus childrens fashion is a modern development, in living memory childrens fashion was just a copy of adults clothing, so odd someone would find a child in an outfit an adult would wear to be such a problem when it was the norm for a long time.
liveforsummer · 02/01/2022 11:28

I suppose more recently a lot of silly slogans and child aimed patterns like unicorns have been introduced but neither of my dc like those.

liveforsummer · 02/01/2022 11:30

Not to mention I don't actually know any adult who would wear those shorts. I'm an adult and certainly would not 😆

Keepitonthedownlow · 02/01/2022 11:35

@SquatBetty

They're nasty and tacky but my main objection is the miniscule leg length for (the majority of) girls' shorts compared to boys' shorts - it's just fucking ridiculous.
This
FluffyBooBoo · 02/01/2022 11:39

They look longer than the shorts that we used for gym in the 70s and 80s. Boys and girls both...

I had similar ones I wore 10 years ago. I would wear them with plain pointed toe heels and a frilly blouse. It used to be one of my favourite outfits!

My question is, who actually buys clothes from Sainsbury’s?

Those shorts are not even leather either 😳 🙈

DD 10 likes TU Sainsbury’s clothes. Today’s outfit consists of a Sainsbury’s cord skirt, mango long sleeve top and Zara chunky cardigan with Sainsbury’s thick tights and boots from next.
BurntToastAgain · 02/01/2022 12:09

Sainsbury’s have nice clothes. And mediocre ones. And ugly ones. Like most shops. They’re catering to a population of different tastes.

Most of my toddler’s clothes are from Sainsbury’s. He’s wearing some leggings and a sweatshirt today. The leggings might technically be from the girl’s range (they’re black and white) but they’re reasonably loose so they're nice and practical for toddler purposes.

My sole problem with the shorts here is that I think they’re unattractive and I wouldn’t buy them. It’s not about sexualisation or whatever. I just do not like them at all. Others do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Poppedbubbles · 02/01/2022 12:14

I would buy them for my DD - nice pair of think tights,sparkly top and black boots. 😲 How dare I 😂

Well fwiw I don't particularly like Sainsbury's in general for clothes but judging by the size of the clothing section in my local and the amount of people in it at any one time, lots of people do. Why would the shorts be better if they were real leather. Real leather would be a bit pricey for a kids item
LoveGoldberg · 02/01/2022 12:38

I think with a pair of tights they would look nice. I don’t see them as sexualising, but then I see girls as more than a vagina. If you look at these and the first thing you think of is a child being a sex object then I think you should seek help.

Spudbitch · 02/01/2022 14:36

Hmm yes I don't think children should dress as mini adults and wear what could be classed as revealing clothing (like on the TV show big fat gypsy weddings for example) But I don't think a pair of leather shorts falls into that category, what's the difference between a pair of tights and shorts and a pair of tights and a frilly skirt? Shorts more practical I would say wipe clean warm hard-wearing can do as many handstands as they like unlike if wearing a dress, they don't look like skintight hot pants which would be wrong but looser fitting comfy shorts that sit where shorts should sit ie:not highcut n clinging to bum. If they were like that then no they shouldn't be selling them but otherwise absolutely fine.

AsYouWishButtercup · 02/01/2022 15:04

But so is gingham and I guess one or two clients visiting a dominatrix would be a bit disappointed if she were wearing gingham and not leather.

This (ridiculous) ‘logic’ is exactly why people think they can tell some women not to breastfeed in public because some people see breasts as sexual

AsYouWishButtercup · 02/01/2022 15:06

@mafted

The shorts are awful for any age, my twenty something DD has a pair she bought for a cops and robbers fancy dress party and they look naff IMO. I've only ever seen adults wear shorts like that to go clubbing or on a night out, children don't need to be dressed up to go clubbing.
My 20yo niece wears jeans, a t shirt and Toms to go clubbing, as do many of her peers these days. Best not dress my kids the same lest anyone mistake them for actual club-goers
AsYouWishButtercup · 02/01/2022 15:10

@Georgeskitchen

I'm not too keen on seeing children dressed like mini adults Maybe I'm just a bit old fashioned!!
My 8yo today is dressed in a knee length hoodie and leggings - what I wear most weekends. Shall I hand myself in to social services?

Is this a ‘MN thing’ to want to only dress kids in JoJo Mayan Bebe style prints with ducks and rainbows and pouffy dresses until they’re 18? Because most people I know IRL wouldn’t give these shorts a second thought other than how nice they look.
