Who the hell are their buyers. Who in their right mind things faux leather shorts are suitable clothes for 4 year old girls. Can we stop with the sexualised clothing for little girls. its just fucking awful
What 4 year old girls need are hard wearin,g comfortable shorts in a decent length, with pockets for their toys not hooker pants.

Well, yes. Obviously they should. But there are nonces and perverts bloody everywhere so personally I'm not going to take the risk

And you think dressing your child in trousers and cardigans is going to deter ‘nonces’ Hmm it’s disturbing some peoples views on here.

Yep, victim blamers, really no different to defences who justify rape if the woman was wearing ‘sexy’ underwear.
Cccc1111 · 02/01/2022 09:53

I’ve seen worse, years ago I saw a copy of the top Victoria Beckham wore when she did the song with Dane Bowers, with the slits across it, in a kids clothing shop.

Yeah I can get the shorts are abit wtf, but depends how they’re worn. Maybe with thick wooly tights and a jumper. I probably would have wanted those shorts as a kid in the 80’s.

IamGusFring · 02/01/2022 09:55

Nothing sexual about this image - more of a FU attitude

It’s the thought of the Mary Whitehouses congratulating themselves for ensuring their DDs are dressed so not to attract pedophiles - when actually if you pass a pedophile with your child, it’s highly likely no matter what your child is wearing, the pedophile will be attracted to them. And you can’t do anything about that - all you can do is safeguard and protect them. And I’m afraid that controlling what they wear and repressing their preferences based on random men is doing the opposite of protecting them.

TameDucksAtChatsworth · 02/01/2022 10:07

@MammaYamada

It's just material.
That's true .

But so is gingham and I guess one or two clients visiting a dominatrix would be a bit disappointed if she were wearing gingham and not leather.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 02/01/2022 10:08

@LynetteScavo

This is how Sainsbury's describe them:

They'll feel like a mini model in these fab faux leather shorts. They're just perfect for party season and will look amazing with some chunky cable knit tights and a little sparkly jumper. With a tie belt waist and little turn ups they're definitely too cool for school! Just add attitude.

"They'll feel like a mini model....." urghh! I wonder if that's in the description of any of the 'boys' clothes.
So sick of this sexist shit about teaching girls how important it is to look pretty/fashionable etc. Mini model ffs.
HPLikecraft · 02/01/2022 10:08

They’re hideous, and with horrible fabric but other than that I don’t have much problem with them.

AlDanvers · 02/01/2022 10:13

and if they are carrying any extra weight you will see when they walk as you do with women who wear teeny tiny shorts.

Wtf? And what? It really amazes me how people they are forward thinking then come our with misogynistic crap like this.

girlmom21 · 02/01/2022 10:15

@SheldontheWonderSchlong there's lots of referencing to "trendsetters" and "grown up, stylish looks" in the descriptions of sainsburys boys clothes.

They've just got shite copywriters.

This is MN where eating more than a salad and half a tin of soup makes you a greedy fat pig, look at how many posters lap up our regular fat husband/wife troll. So sadly not a surprise that one of our teeny tiny MNers has infiltrated this thread.
FluffyBooBoo · 02/01/2022 10:18

I think they are fine, depending on what they are teamed with - and as most people have said, they would most probably be teamed with thick tights.

I saw a girl, maybe 8/9 years old in the supermarket the other day wearing a pair of tight shiny black 'Grease' type trousers. She looked great! They were teamed with a black jumper and black boots. If anyone looked at her thinking she looked sexy/sexual, they would be the one with the problem.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 02/01/2022 10:22

Nearly all of my DDs clothes came from Sainsbury until she got to about 9 and discovered H&M. It's very good for children's clothes and the end of season sales are brilliant.

I'd never have bought her faux leather shorts but she had loads in that style in either velvet or tweed type material with a sparkle going through it.

Always worn with tights and a jumper or blouse and boots and it seemed to be a popular choice of outfit at birthday parties and school discos.

mafted · 02/01/2022 10:25

The shorts are awful for any age, my twenty something DD has a pair she bought for a cops and robbers fancy dress party and they look naff IMO.
I've only ever seen adults wear shorts like that to go clubbing or on a night out, children don't need to be dressed up to go clubbing.

LessTime · 02/01/2022 10:29

The are hideous but look better in the photo with the model where the hem has been rolled down.

😬
4 year olds are not mini adults, or dolls for parents to dress up in the latest adult fashions, they're little children. Personally I wouldn't want a 4 YO DD of mine to look like a "mini model" or have "attitude" (whatever TF that means, although I guess either a "fuck you" attitude or a sexually mature one).

And some styles and fabrics are more associated with adults and sex than others, eg chiffon negliges, basques, latex. As a PP said, if fabric is irrelevant, do you really think a punter is going to mind a dominatrix dressed in gingham, or how about a nice dress made of fleece?

liveforsummer · 02/01/2022 10:33

I'd guess they are intended to be worn with those thick textured leggings below underneath. Don't see how they'd be any less comfortable or impractical than denim and my dc lived in denim shorts and tights or leggings at they age - in fact they still do. DD8 would like those with a chunky jumper and thick tights

Fair enough, although I'd argue that "trendsetters" is much more active, whereas "mini model" is very passive, a 'there for looking at type' thing.....but then I am VERY grumpy about it all having a tall for her age daughter and struggling to find the nice stuff she used to wear in bigger sizes!

Omicrone · 02/01/2022 10:36

There will definitely be punters out there who like a dominatrix dressed in gingham and fleece! Grin

liveforsummer · 02/01/2022 10:36

@AiryFairy1

My issue with girls shorts in general (& mentioned upthread 👆🏽) is they’re just not practical - usually too short, often too tight. And to dress them as children (as someone queried 👆🏽)… to me that means in natural comfy, breathable fabrics, light/ bright colours that allow them to move easily.
Tell that to dd12. It's all she's worn since about age 6 - even to school.
Omicrone · 02/01/2022 10:36

'Mini model' is horrible - yuk.

liveforsummer · 02/01/2022 10:37

Also light/bright colours stain. Way prefer darks and blacks for my grubby pair

BeLessMe · 02/01/2022 10:41

Tame compared to the Pole dancing kit for kids that Tesco tried to sell. It was hastily pulled from shelves after complaints but DM worked there at the time and had a woman come in asking for it.
She looked at the customer like Confused when she asked why it had been withdrawn from sale.

@LoudSnoringDog

My DD (8) would love these shirts with thick tights and a polo jumper and boots
Mine has them!!! I'm quite shocked at this thread! They look lovely with thick tights and boots!!!! They're just a different material. Surely I'm not alone. Sometimes I'm horrified on here at the way peoples minds work!!
Georgeskitchen · 02/01/2022 10:57

I'm not too keen on seeing children dressed like mini adults
Maybe I'm just a bit old fashioned!!

NeedAHoliday2021 · 02/01/2022 10:59

My first thought was “they’ll be wipeable for spillages!” Seem quite useful and not one bit sexual to me. They’re hardly hotpants, just shorts in a shiny material. It concerns me what some mnetters think sexual means!
