Happy Easter all 🐇

I think all the good dictators are having a good earned Easter break...

MrsOakes · 18/04/2022 23:01

I have just applied for DICT8 (I left my Band 4 Medical Secretary for a band 5 post and missing audio!). Does anyone know what the rheum/urology/haem typing is like (amount/clarity). Thanks 😊

Gally123 · 19/04/2022 10:32

@MrsOakes - it is hard for us to say as it seems that DICT8 give new typists better tasks and send the poorly dictated dross to those of us who have typed for sometime. Also contracts change so we could say - yes wonderful or no terrible and then that hospital cancels its contract and/or new hospital signs up. You will only know for sure once you start. New typists are normally given one specialty for the first few months while they learn the layout - DICT8 are very particular.

I’ve noticed that now I’ve been typing for a little while the quality has gone downhill quite a lot. There was one doctor today and on all of their dictations I could hardly hear a thing as it was so quiet!

Meha5a · 19/04/2022 18:52

Yes it's whispering Tuesday this end too !!!

Whitestar55 · 20/04/2022 12:40

@Gally123 One of my specialties has practically disappeared and I'm wondering if it is because they've taken on new transcribers and are giving the work to them, either that or there are just more people logging on who type that particular specialty. The mind boggles really!

Gally123 · 20/04/2022 12:51

@Whitestar55 - I have found in the past specialties seem to flux and I put that down to hospital activity. At the moment with Easter holidays there seems less work (Tpro is very quiet, less work and it seems less typists as well). Perhaps lots of cancelled clinics or hospitals have made other arrangements for their work.

Not sure I like this new Mumsnet layout.

I think the fact that you have to re-log in to Mumsnet might cause a problem for those who have forgotten their details. I prefer the old layout, it was more straightforward to navigate and easier to look at than this.

How I hate having so many passwords running round my head - took forever to remember this one 😂

Glad you eventually remembered - welcome to the new layout! As for DICT8, I have lots of work today, but unfortunately most of it's rubbish in many ways.

AVP1821 · 22/04/2022 15:31

Dusk99 · 23/04/2022 15:44

Hello, I am looking for some inside knowledge! I recently started working for Tpro and I am happy with that. I have been given test files from WeType but haven’t done them yet. The pay starts at 58p per minute or thereabouts. Do you know if this means a file was 1:45min would you get paid 1min/2min or in between? I haven’t done the test yet as not sure if I would be better just sticking to Tpro which I do like & is very flexible. Also I wonder if anyone has done work for Outsec & any clues to what it’s like to work for! Any advice/thoughts much appreciated 🤔

Whitestar55 · 25/04/2022 13:18

@Dusk99 If you look back at previous posts in this thread there are some about experiences with WeType, but unfortunately they're not very positive. I don't know much about them myself, I would personally contact them to ask about the rates of pay. 58 pence per minute seems low and as a self-employed contractor I wouldn't accept that.

Lovemydaxie · 25/04/2022 14:00

@Dusk99 I worked for Outsec many years ago. I remember the pay as being pretty good and they tended to assign particular doctors to you with personalised templates for that doctor which could be a faff to manipulate. However, at that time they wanted you to be available on certain days and times each week and I had to email them at the beginning of each week to tell them my availability. At the time this didn't suit my circumstances and I ended up not working for them for very long. They might work a bit differently now, but I find with Dict8 I can work or not work as I decide which suits me better. They would be worth trying if you don't mind how they work.

Dusk99 · 25/04/2022 15:59

Thanks for the replies. I think I will give WeType a wide berth @Whitestar55 . @Lovemydaxie, admittedly it’s the flexibility that drew me into home working, and I am not entirely convinced I want to be tied to particular days/times. It’s a bit off putting, but if they are decent to work with that’s always a bonus. Maybe limit availability……..?!

Chrissols · 25/04/2022 17:49

Hi all, been away for a while 🙂🙂

Hi all, been away for a while 🙂🙂

Hi Chrissols, Welcome back, hope you are well. It's been pretty peaceful on here.

Hi @Chrissols - nice to have you back, hope you are well. Still the same DICT8, new style Mumsnet....

@Gally123 thank you. Yes,I thought I’d lost the site 🫣

Gally123 · 26/04/2022 11:52

Just to change the subject for a moment, one of my friends who is an author (I mentioned her previously when she had a free book offer) together with others has just published a charity anthology of short stories and poems in aid of Ukraine "Not Just Soldiers" ("It is not just soldiers who die in wartime"). It is a slightly smaller book than first hoped for as a couple of people dropped out, but is available from Amazon (and other bookstores) at £1.79 for the ebook and £5.99 for a paperback. All in a good cause.

This new mumsnet is a right palaver. I used to just click on "last" and that would take you to the most recent post. Plus you have to log in to comment. Doh!!

bluebell8329 · 28/04/2022 11:05

how long does feedback usually last for? I seemed to be getting feedback after every batch of typing I submitted but haven't had any for at least ten days...

user1493458352 · 28/04/2022 11:56

bluebell8329 you will find they do feedback around the same time each month for you but if you cock up as I have recently you then get feedback almost every day until they feel you have not made the error again. Generally the feedback is pointless, they pick on such stupid little things that in the real world would not stop the letter going out and when they pick on you not spelling a name correctly and the dictator has given you no guidelines that is particularly unfair.
