I’m absolutely disgusted. FS was abusive whilst alone with her child. Can the prosecution appeal her sentence?

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 15/12/2021 15:23

I thought FS was going to get less than that

SammyScrounge · 15/12/2021 15:25

I read today that Smith's grandfather killed himself in order to go to Star and look after her.

DottyHarmer · 15/12/2021 15:26

If I thought I'd get off a murder charge by having a low IQ, you bet I'd be honest in that test Hmm . I'd be the very stupidest person that had ever stood in the dock.

As I said upthread, there have been defences producing cancer and Alzheimer's diagnoses for their clients, from which recovery is miraculous.

The SB individual was also pulling epilepsy and heart conditions when they were a championship boxer. I think the defence lawyers need hauling over the coals. Everyone is entitled to a defence, but there is a point when "creative" defences are simply lies and could permit a dangerous criminal to reoffend.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 15/12/2021 15:26

I expected the 25 years for SH but I was honestly expecting FS to get away with only a couple of years. Glad it’s more. Still don’t think 8 years is enough.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 15/12/2021 15:29

Would like to have seen SB's face when she was handed that!

It is being reported on Twitter that she laughed. Angry
MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 15/12/2021 15:36

Doesn't surprise me, the stupid bitch

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 15/12/2021 15:36

Stating she had a low IQ is cheap imo. A gorilla has an IQ of 75-95. They hold their dc close not sit around letting the group batter them. Surely allowing your dc to be hurt goes against your natural instinct to protect?

Me neither, sadly.
Somethingsnappy · 15/12/2021 15:41

@DottyHarmer

Hmmmmph, so did the IQ mitigation make any difference? That'll open the floodgates for defence lawyers. Every Tom, Dick and Harriet'll now have a "low IQ" and couldn't possibly help their actions Angry
No, it didn't. The judge said it wasn't a mitigating factor for her and placed her in A category: high culpability.
Eatingsoupwithafork · 15/12/2021 15:45

8 years for FS is disgracefully low. She should have gotten much more time on her sentence.

LizBennet · 15/12/2021 15:46

I know low IQ can contribute to someone being coerced and frightened.
I also know some parents with learning difficulties, who manage not to allow their children to be beaten.
It's a fucking insult to say their low IQ contributes to them allowing their children to be hurt.

She stood and called her baby 'little c...' while SB swung the child round by her legs. Eight years isn't nearly enough. If she was afraid to deal with it herself, all she had to do was dial 999. She just didn't care enough.
Theythinkitsalloveritisnow · 15/12/2021 15:49

A minimum of 25 years for Brockhill seems incredibly lenient to me for what she did- torturing and murdering a tiny child. I actually think child killers usually don't get the sentences they deserve considering the total helplessness and vulnerability of their victim.

vickyp0llard · 15/12/2021 15:50

It's quite similar to the Arthur case - Thomas Hughes was said to have been of low intelligence and never held down a skilled job, and also coerced by Emma Tustin. Yet he still got 21 years while Frankie Smith gets 8. Why the tiny sentence for her?

I agree, I did say 8 years isn’t enough.

Kittykat93 · 15/12/2021 15:54

They will still have lives when they get out of prison. How is that fair when that little girl didn't even make it to 2 fucking years old. It's a disgrace

Because he was convicted of manslaughter and FS convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child. The maximum sentence for that is 14 years with a starting point of 9 years (I think) with a culpability factor A.
TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/12/2021 16:01

I think the defence lawyers need hauling over the coals.

In fairness they have done exactly what a defence team should do, and they have got a good result for their client. Likewise, defence psychologist Eric Wright has done what he is hired to do and has successfully argued that FS's is low enough to mitigate her behaviour.

It's like Harvey Weinstein limping into court with a Zimmer frame, it's just how these things work.

It was decided that his text messaging encouraged ET to badly hurt Arthur, so he was guilty of manslaughter.

Another one wishing the sentences were longer. I read a PP who hoped FS would get much less so 'she could start her life over'. Not to get all Daily Mail...but Star isn't getting to do that! I think what both SB and FS did to Star is as bad as poor Arthur had done to him so why more lenient sentences?

MaMaLa321 · 15/12/2021 16:03

I hope that they get their due punishment in prison.

suckingonyulelogs · 15/12/2021 16:05

What's the betting the mother has another baby once she's out

Bagelsandbrie · 15/12/2021 16:07

8 years?!!!!!! That’s insane!!! She’ll only be 28 when she’s released if she isn’t released before then!!! Horrendous.
