Stupidly hard work quiz (help!)

If anyone remembers previous years my work sets a stupidly hard quiz for us to have a go at every Christmas. This year's is no different....

I've managed to complete the first 8 puzzles myself but now I'm stuck Xmas Sad Very frustrating as I've got the gist of the puzzles but can't figure out what the answer is!

Here's the first one and here's my answers. If anyone can figure out the final answer (two words 5,7) I'd be ever so grateful 😊

For the movies puzzle, as another PP said, I was also thinking along the lines of e.g. 20th letter of answer 8, or 8th letter of clue 20 etc ,but so far that doesn't seem to be spelling anything useful. Another thought occured that you have numbered them in the order given, which happens to be the opposite of their release order. But maybe the empire strikes back should be in row 1 not row 20 to make something like that work?

LivingInABuildingSite · 07/12/2021 17:28

Yes there’s no 3 letter word there, it’s just how the grid looks

OliveHenry · 07/12/2021 17:29

This was my attempt!

@InTheLabyrinth

I've messed up... cant fit in court fruit, and I've crossed off something I dont have, but.....
Wave goes across the A of engaged. Date goes down with the A of Bar
LivingInABuildingSite · 07/12/2021 17:30

Actually wave and date can go either or.

FoxgloveSummers · 07/12/2021 17:32

@OliveHenry

I tried the grid one and ended up with

ONAWEGISTNM

which does indeed make "wanting some" or "some wanting", plus hundreds of other combinations.

Hmm. Tricky.

Yes I think this is right and OP I've messaged you with a suggestion for the answer!
FoxgloveSummers · 07/12/2021 17:33

@ThisIsTrifficult

So i counted the letters in the answer. Otherwise op would be able to get an answer without solving it. Count the letters from the start of the character as they have given you the spreadsheet with answers in a very particular order.
Trifficult, are you implying you've actually cracked it?
Inertia · 07/12/2021 17:34

I think 1997 is How Do You Like Them Apples?

No idea what is relates to ! Going to read the thread properly!

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 07/12/2021 17:35

@ApocalypseNowt

Ha! Tried Oscar winners days ago. No joy!
Did you try Award Winners? or maybe BAFTA winners?
ThisIsTrifficult · 07/12/2021 17:35

Not yet! Would like to sit in front of the pc after the DC are in bed with pen and paper!

SSOYS · 07/12/2021 17:37

Could be an anagram of Two Meanings

SoupDragon · 07/12/2021 17:37

@ApocalypseNowt

We did Pussy on account of being the only one to finish! Grin
What did you win?

Will I need to dig out my GCHQ quiz book again?

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 17:42

Two meanings is the answer to the crossword! Thank you Foxglove and SSOYS.

Last year I won some amazon vouchers which was much appreciated as both my DC birthdays are in January so I was able to get them an extra little gift each.

GCHQ quiz book will come in handy i'm sure!

I'll have to go and make my DC some tea soon otherwise they'll do their sad faces at me. I'll keep my laptop on upstairs though so I can check if any bright spark comes up with an answer to the film one.

FoxgloveSummers · 07/12/2021 17:44

The crossword is a piece of piss compared to this film nightmare

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 17:47

Sometimes if I walk away from a puzzle then go back I get the answer (fairly) quickly. I have gone back to the film one about ten times and it's still no clearer. That was when i knew i had to call in the cavalry!

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 17:47

Not award winners or bafta winners

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 07/12/2021 17:49

Two Meanings is relatively obvious, given the nature of the clues.

But the film one is annoying me now.

Thegrassisntalwaysgreener · 07/12/2021 18:01

Is it something to do with the fact it's all male?

I can't work out what 5 word would be something to do with males though

tara66 · 07/12/2021 18:03

Are you excused if you tell them you're dyslexic -( though my son says that doesn't really exist in 'simple' form any more).

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 18:05

Could be Thegrass - good spot, hadn't noticed that.

Tara66 the quiz is voluntary. I just like being really bugged and preoccupied for days on end... Wink

Actor?
Dadalus · 07/12/2021 18:21

What's bugging me is if each clue gives a letter, then you'll have 20 letters, so not the answer or an anagram of the answer (which has 12 letters), and it being an anagram of a clue to the answer feels overly obtuse to me.

Lils11 · 07/12/2021 18:23

I am SO happy this is back! I loved last year.

bestdhever · 07/12/2021 18:26

This is really random is the answer Kevin Costner
