Stupidly hard work quiz (help!)

If anyone remembers previous years my work sets a stupidly hard quiz for us to have a go at every Christmas. This year's is no different....

I've managed to complete the first 8 puzzles myself but now I'm stuck Xmas Sad Very frustrating as I've got the gist of the puzzles but can't figure out what the answer is!

Here's the first one and here's my answers. If anyone can figure out the final answer (two words 5,7) I'd be ever so grateful 😊

Court fruit is date

Laughsandgiggles · 07/12/2021 17:07

Although no idea if that fits with the twenty from twenty clue or anything else really hmmm

SSOYS · 07/12/2021 17:07

Court fruit could be squash

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 17:07

@Laughsandgiggles pretty sure!

@memberofsomebadclubs that's right, we've worked them all out, now it's just how we get to the answer!

@memberofsomebadclubs

1996 is Show Me The Money - Jerry Maguire It's film quotes and the character who said them?
That's the easy bit. OP had already figured that out and all the answers before she even posted. She now has to make the numbers in the brackets mean something in relation to those answers ... that's the bit we haven't figured out yet.
HoardingSamphireSaurus · 07/12/2021 17:11

@Laughsandgiggles

Do you know for certain that it is a 5 and a 7 letter word? If not then could it be a link between the 5th film and the 7th film - Mel Gibson??
I can't get links between oher and then that would leave you with 20 actors, leading men, who would need a connection. Or Just the last one?? 20 of 20???
Sparticle · 07/12/2021 17:12

For the original quiz, I was wondering if there is a link between all the answers. I tried highest grossing films of those years and it isn’t that (not according to Wikipedia, but it could be in a certain country). Spielberg and his potential involvement came to mind looking at a lot of those titles but without properly researching I don’t know. Again, I’ve not had time but there could be a certain actor (big name or bit part) involved in them all.
Sorry these are just ideas off the top of my head.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/12/2021 17:13

Oh I remember this from last year! I think I spotted the the first diamond was all Julie Andrews films (or something like that).

Nothing has jumped out of this one yet though!

RuleOfCat · 07/12/2021 17:16

Money for cookie ingredient = dough
Small period of time = minute?

FoxgloveSummers · 07/12/2021 17:17

with the fitting in the words one it's really helpful to make a list of the answer words grouped by word length and then see how they can fit together.

sammassammas · 07/12/2021 17:17

No advice but I remember this from last year!

RuleOfCat · 07/12/2021 17:18

Scupper aluminium wrap = foil

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 07/12/2021 17:18

@ApocalypseNowt just out of curiosity...did you (we) win last year? Xmas Grin

Dadalus · 07/12/2021 17:19

I think court fruit is date. (Apologies if that's already been said)

RuleOfCat · 07/12/2021 17:19

Observe time piece = watch

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 17:19

Oops, how embarrassing, have just seen the third image with all the answers filled in . I thought it was too easy.

LivingInABuildingSite · 07/12/2021 17:24

With the grid one, you end of with a bunch of letters that could spell out

Wanting some ?!

Or possibly something else that makes more sense!

ThisIsTrifficult · 07/12/2021 17:25

So i counted the letters in the answer. Otherwise op would be able to get an answer without solving it.
Count the letters from the start of the character as they have given you the spreadsheet with answers in a very particular order.

FoxgloveSummers · 07/12/2021 17:25

I think something must be wrong with your answers because there's only one seven letter answer in the grid. If that's "ENGAGED" then we need a three letter answer that ends in G to connect with it but I can't see one. So either we need that word or engaged is wrong.

OliveHenry · 07/12/2021 17:25

I tried the grid one and ended up with

ONAWEGISTNM

which does indeed make "wanting some" or "some wanting", plus hundreds of other combinations.

Hmm. Tricky.

InTheLabyrinth · 07/12/2021 17:26

I've messed up... cant fit in court fruit, and I've crossed off something I dont have, but.....

I thought that too, but then thought perhaps that the 3 letter across ending in G isn't actually meant to be a word, but just looks like it 'cos of the way the grid is laid out? So perhaps the square in the middle isn't meant to be a letter?
