Stupidly hard work quiz (help!)

If anyone remembers previous years my work sets a stupidly hard quiz for us to have a go at every Christmas. This year's is no different....

I've managed to complete the first 8 puzzles myself but now I'm stuck Xmas Sad Very frustrating as I've got the gist of the puzzles but can't figure out what the answer is!

Here's the first one and here's my answers. If anyone can figure out the final answer (two words 5,7) I'd be ever so grateful 😊

I'd ignore the twenty from the 20th tbh. The main clue is sometimes super obscure or just helps you with the puzzle itself.

I think the numbers after the clues relate to letters which will tell us what the final answer is supposed to be

Does it work if you take that numbered letter from the answer? If you do them in ordered does it spell anything?

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 14:59

@Tibtab tried that but didn't spell anything obvious

The numbers after the clues would potentially give an anagram or a clue.

Quote tagline

FoxgloveSummers · 07/12/2021 15:02

it's not something stupid like state capitals is it?

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 15:02

@OytheBumbler yes that's what I think

@KittenCatcher nope ☹️

Brain Teasers (5, 7) ???

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/12/2021 15:03

Isnt it just synonym of movie quotes

"Films, phrases"

girlmom21 · 07/12/2021 15:04

2,9 is "how do you like them apples?" Will Hunting, isn't it?

girlmom21 · 07/12/2021 15:05

Oh twenty from the 20th is just 20 quotes from the 20th century

bigbeachedwales · 07/12/2021 15:08

Award winners??

FoxgloveSummers · 07/12/2021 15:08

Ok so all the number groups after the clue are a) in pairs b) not above 20

So they could either be something that naturally comes in pairs like someone's name or say a location in the US, or it could be a clue to a pair of letters (so like 1,2 would be AB). Or it could refer to the answers to this exact quiz in some way. Am I overthinking this?

PatriciaHolm · 07/12/2021 15:12

It isn't something like "movie phrases" is it?

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 15:13

@FoxgloveSummers I also noticed that there are only 12 'first' numbers (1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,12,15,18,20) so they could relate to a letter each of the answer?

May also overthinking!

I was wondering about letters too. Clue one (sixth sense) for example would be H, N... I can't make that fit the film! (Well, I can in a convoluted way but it doesn't hold up with any of the other clues)

Was also wondering about the number of letters in someone's name, but the 1 & 20 mostly rule that out I think.

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 15:14

None of the answers so far work (I am trying them all just in case!)

Catch phrases?

Sunshine1066 · 07/12/2021 15:15

Sorry @BedsorestoaSloth just seen your reply!

goodwinter · 07/12/2021 15:15

@BedsorestoaSloth

"catch phrases"
Shock great shout! Although would that mean the numbers after each clue are just red herrings?
ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 15:16

They won't be red herrings

OP posts:
ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 15:16

I think the fact that the numbers don't go above 20 means it is related to one of the 20 answers I've worked out

OP posts:
Sunshine1066 · 07/12/2021 15:17

Movie phrases?

edin16 · 07/12/2021 15:19

Have you tried assigning each column of answers 1-20 and the numbers could correspond to the first letter? Either just one column for all numbers or the first of each pair could be the character column and the second could be the movie title column? Does that make sense?
