Stupidly hard work quiz (help!)

If anyone remembers previous years my work sets a stupidly hard quiz for us to have a go at every Christmas. This year's is no different....

I've managed to complete the first 8 puzzles myself but now I'm stuck Xmas Sad Very frustrating as I've got the gist of the puzzles but can't figure out what the answer is!

Here's the first one and here's my answers. If anyone can figure out the final answer (two words 5,7) I'd be ever so grateful 😊

I suppose the first step is to eliminate anyone not acting in 1993

SoupDragon · 09/12/2021 08:01

B is Boron - The Fifth Element and puts Bruce Willis in that set of 3

SoupDragon · 09/12/2021 08:04

I've missed the last few hours and there's so many comments...can someone give me a cliff notes version. We're associating actors with the pictures, then what?

rosegoldwatcher · 09/12/2021 08:17

I get it now!

Denzil/Juila in Pelican Brief, written by Tom Clancy who also wrote The Firm, also released in 1993.

It was the 'listed' in the sentence that threw me for a loop.

Well done for spotting the anagram!

rosegoldwatcher · 09/12/2021 08:19

Oops - written by John Grisham, not Tom Clancy.

SoupDragon · 09/12/2021 08:28

Yes, so the answer required is The Pelican Brief The Firm

Which we got ages ago but at least now we know why and how 😂

Saisong · 09/12/2021 08:30

Great thinking on the Boron clue Soupy - that was bugging me.
Which other films are we missing that we should be able to solve (just for the record)

SoupDragon · 09/12/2021 08:31

@edin16

I've missed the last few hours and there's so many comments...can someone give me a cliff notes version. We're associating actors with the pictures, then what?
First we find the films the pictures represent Then they have to be grouped in threes ("found Orpheus" is an anagram of "groups of three") according to actors who starred in the films. This puts the three letter codes into order which gave us the question "WHICH FILM THAT STARS TWO OF THE ACTORS LISTED CAME OUT IN NINETEEN NINETY THREE AND WHICH OTHER FILM STARRING ANOTHER ACTOR LISTED CAME OUT THE SAME YEAR THEY ARE BASED ON THE NOVELS BY THE SAME AUTHOR"

We came about it in a slightly different way though.

FoxgloveSummers · 09/12/2021 08:31

Hope these are right! You’re all terrific. Love that I just started spotted films and then left you to do the hard bits Grin

John Grisham was very good although I prefer the Client to the Firm.

ApocalypseNowt · 09/12/2021 08:41

It was an anagram!!?!??!!!! But....but....I know so much about Orpheus now..... Confused Grin

SoupDragon · 09/12/2021 08:43

I know, right?!

I'm not sure what made me look to see if it was an anagram.

Ekofisk · 09/12/2021 08:45

@Saisong

So I've got

WHICH FILM THAT STARS TWO OF THE ACTORS LISTED CAME OUT IN NINETEEN NINETY THREE AND WHICH OTHER FILMS STARRING ANOTHER ARE BASED ON THE NOVELS BY THE SAME AUTHOR

which still leaves the following to fit in
STE
DCA
MEO
EYA
CTO
HES
AME
YEA
RLI
RTH (I can see earlier here)

I think I can get out of that:

He same year listed actor they cameo

minou123 · 09/12/2021 08:46

We did go arse out on this one, didn't we? Grin

Thank you all who worked out the other actors I was up till 2am trying to work it out. Blush

ApocalypseNowt · 09/12/2021 08:47

Sorry for the wild goose chase on having to look back at previous questions! I was so sure that was what it meant. I’d never heard of Orpheus until yesterday so at least I’ve learnt something

SoupDragon · 09/12/2021 08:51

Xmas quiz 2021 completed!

Whaaaaat?! No!

You'll be banned from next year's quiz.

Mumdiva99 · 09/12/2021 08:53

I'm stupidly giggling away to myself....I loved last year's.....I just read this full thread hoping to have a go this year....only to find out on page 29 that you have finished this years!!! Well done. They were super hard.

FoxgloveSummers · 09/12/2021 09:03
