Stupidly hard work quiz (help!)

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2021 14:34

If anyone remembers previous years my work sets a stupidly hard quiz for us to have a go at every Christmas. This year's is no different....

I've managed to complete the first 8 puzzles myself but now I'm stuck Xmas Sad Very frustrating as I've got the gist of the puzzles but can't figure out what the answer is!

Here's the first one and here's my answers. If anyone can figure out the final answer (two words 5,7) I'd be ever so grateful 😊

@SoupDragon

I'm not convinced the years are helpful as I've just looked at the ones that spell "nineteen ninety three" and the years seem mixed/random.
What about alphabetical order? I haven't tried it tbf!
SoupDragon · 08/12/2021 19:50

Alphabetical didn't seem help either. I wondered if there was some other thing the films had in common. Main actor? Director?

SoupDragon · 08/12/2021 19:54

Assuming "in nineteen ninety three" is correct, I get

INN Champions 1984
INE Maverick 1994
TEE Nell 1994
NNI The Midnight Sky 2020
NET Ted 2 2015
YTH Seven 1995
REE ?

SoupDragon · 08/12/2021 19:56

They're alphabetical in that small group I guess. Not sure about Champions or the last one though. If it's alphabetical within the "question" that implies Champions must be wrong though

SoupDragon · 08/12/2021 19:57

Actually, it's not alphabetical The Midnight Sky is not in the right place for that to be the case.

ApocalypseNowt · 08/12/2021 20:00

Sorry foxglove, missed that. Yes Drive fits better I think. I'm not thinking straight anymore...🤪

So I've got

WHICH FILM THAT STARS TWO OF THE ACTORS LISTED CAME OUT IN NINETEEN NINETY THREE AND WHICH OTHER FILMS STARRING ANOTHER ARE BASED ON THE NOVELS BY THE SAME AUTHOR

which still leaves the following to fit in
STE
DCA
MEO
EYA
CTO
HES
AME
YEA
RLI
RTH (I can see earlier here)

Saisong · 08/12/2021 20:02

Actually scrap earlier - I'm missing an e

Saisong · 08/12/2021 20:08

12 Monkeys is the only one I know is based on a novel, anyone pick out any more?

Cameo Dc actor listed - but used D twice
bettytaghetti · 08/12/2021 20:13

Apocalypse don't know if this is a bit late in the day, but taking screenshots directly from your laptop might be better resolution. I think you're on an Apple, no? If so shift+command+3 does a whole screenshot and shift+command+4 allows you to choose the area you want to screen grab.

riotlady · 08/12/2021 20:17

@Saisong

I'm working through the list (although I missed 12 monkeys!) so far I have

The Martian- Andy Weir

Patriot Games - Tom Clancy

Moneyball- Michael Lewis

Gladiator- inspired by a book by Daniel P Mannix (but not directly adapted like the others)

Saisong · 08/12/2021 20:18

We need to identify the films from 1993, then decide which is based on a book by an author with other films under his belt.

I'll bet Tom Hanks has something to do with it. Or maybe Bruce Willis Grin

ApocalypseNowt · 08/12/2021 20:19

betty Im not on an apple but I'll try screenshot tomorrow if I need to take more pics 👍

I do have my end of year review tomorrow morning though but I'll be back on asap Smile

Philadelphia is based on a novel I think?

The Firm starring Tom Cruise was released in 1993, and was written by John Grisham - but I'm struggling to make further links

bunfightinaisle3 · 08/12/2021 20:24

The firm, Tom cruise (author John Grisham)
The pelican brief, denzel and Julia Roberts (also John Grisham)
I'm just getting John Grisham vibes. Pelican brief came out in 1993
Danny not Donald glover was in the rainmaker, also John Grisham based.

Making sense to anyone else?

Was working towards two of the "pictured" actors in a film together, which were all based on books.

minou123 · 08/12/2021 20:25

The Firm and The Pelican Brief films were both 1993 films and both based on novels by John Grisham.

Does that link to orpheaus in any way?

GreenWhiteViolet · 08/12/2021 20:26

List of 1993 films based on books:

bunfightinaisle3 · 08/12/2021 20:26

Is DOM rainmaker not hurricane?

ChristmasQuizzer · 08/12/2021 20:27

Which film that stars two of the actors listed came out in 1993 and which other film starring another actor listed came out the same year. They are based on novels by the same author.

Signed up just to post this! No idea on actual answer though…

bunfightinaisle3 · 08/12/2021 20:27

Mickey rourke was in rainmaker - is that the wrestler pictured?

Pelican Brief came out in 1993; not sure if we've had Denzel Washington as I'm struggling to keep up(!) but could EYA be escort=Pretty Woman=Julia Roberts? So novels by John Grisham

Tom Cruise was in The Firm. Will go and check to see any other links.
