The corner shop near our old house. Boycotted it because the family who ran it and owned it couldn't be bothered to interrupt their mobile phone conversations to acknowledge you when they served. It's not Tesco that shuts every little shop, it's poor customer service.

SnoopyLights · 13/11/2021 11:15

Yeo Valley - after an encounter with a really rude customer services staff member. I still mutter "fuck off" at their yoghurts in the supermarket now, and it must have been ten years now.

Car Shop - sold us a disaster of a car, insisted nothing was wrong with it, then denied ever selling it to us even though we had proof. In the end we had to get rid of it, but they still spent two years ringing us up to ask us to book in the car they "never sold us" with them for a service or MOT etc.

Eon - we weren't even their customer but they kept threatening us about an unpaid bill. Worse, they were writing to our house about a shop at the other side of town, owned by someone with a different name to us. But trying to resolve it got even more bizarre because they couldn't grasp that they had got the wrong people and wrong address, and kept asking for the meter reading for our house to rectify things. I kept saying "this bill is for a shop, and you are trying to send it to the shop owners home address - but you are sending it to my house by mistake. I am not your customer, I don't own the shop, the shop owner doesn't live at this address, my meter reading is irrelevant." In the end I had to get the ombudsman involved and threaten them with breaching Data Protection before they left me alone.

Solar Frame Windows and Doors - let us down on our order but were then really rude about us cancelling because they couldn't provide the service they had sold us, and even though they actually took our deposit payment over the phone because they couldn't stand to wait half an hour for their salesman to get back to our house, they told us they don't send a refund cheque until ten days after the cancellation has been accepted. This after saying they didn't need our money anyway. But they certainly tried to hang onto it for long enough all the same.

Wetherspoons ;)

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/11/2021 11:16

@Porridgeislife

Belgium. The whole country.

VW because our Golf Mk 8 is a steaming turd of a car and I think there’s now fewer original bits than replacements.

I'm intrigued to know what Belgium did?!
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/11/2021 11:17

Why do gin bottles appear when I try to quote a post? Is MN trying to tell me something?

Geneva12 · 13/11/2021 11:17

Nationwide for their really annoying poetry adverts.

HeronLanyon · 13/11/2021 11:24

My lovely old late Ma boycotted her closest corner shop after hearing the men in there making a sexist remark. We were all BANNED from using it when visiting her. As she got more infirm she was sometimes known to pick up a paper from them but we were kind of never to notice that.

stealingbeauty · 13/11/2021 11:25

I’ve just remembered two more.

House of Fraser.

Eon. Quite possibly the worst company ever. Lost so much money because of them.

LetHimHaveIt · 13/11/2021 11:25

My dad wouldn't let us shop at Tesco or have any products from the Murdoch stable, as he was convinced Dame Shirley Porter and Rupes, were among the biggest crooks unhung, in history. Turned out to be right and I've continued the ban, although I do sometimes wish we could get 'Alibi'. And I'm told the Clubcard reductions are pretty good. Ah, well.

Bensons for Beds. The shittest fucking company I've ever encountered. It's a mystery that they keep going.

A florist in Canterbury. Their staff came in for their Christmas party and behaved abominably. Pissed, coked-up, rude. Tried to steal booze. A man and a woman (with 'slut' written on her tits in lipstick) attempted to have some sort of sex in the ladies. Left their area an utter shit hole. Caused considerable damage in the disabled loo and left shit on the floor for good measure. We kicked them out. The owners complained and, because the HO of our company were almost as shit, were given a free meal for four. They came in and immediately asked for four bottles of our most expensive wine, which set the tone for how smug and unpleasant they were for the next three hours.

A few years later, word got out they they were going under. A few of us went in and told them how overjoyed we were.

Blossomandbee · 13/11/2021 11:27

NatWest for their awful customer service and inability to resolve any problems.

Virgin broadband and tv, was down more than it was working.

A local charity shop after I heard the manager slagging my DH off when she didn't realise I was in the shop.

HeronLanyon · 13/11/2021 11:30

I know I have been reduced to tears trying to sort out issues with - BT VIRGIN SSE (energy) EON EE APPLE. Could not boycott as always over a barrel as needed their services (despite chaotic stuff). I would sometimes love to just live off grid totally sometimes rather than have to make those calls over and over and see those bills with notes and chronologies and reference numbers scribbled all over them trying to keep track of the latest fuck ups.

TatianaBis · 13/11/2021 11:31

Vodafone, BT, Savills.

spiderlight · 13/11/2021 11:33

Bella Italia. They served my DH a meat calzone when he had ordered a vegetarian one. He took a mouthful. He's been vegetarian since childhood and was really upset, but they could not have given less of a toss - they were really quite rude in their token apology and only very grudgingly took it off our bill.

TatianaBis · 13/11/2021 11:33

@LadyMonicaBaddingham

Flemish, paedophiles and undercooked eggs.

Can’t speak for other poster but it gives me the creeps.

NormalPlease · 13/11/2021 11:33

KLM - never, and I mean never, had a flight with them where someone’s bags haven’t been lost. Intrigues me because I always thought the baggage handlers were contracted to the airport, not individual airlines, but SOMETHING that KLM do must be behind it as never had it with another airline.

Santander - gave my online banking details to a (thankfully honest) stranger yonks ago

Patisserie Valerie. I found a hair embedded in a gateau in one of their restaurants. When I politely showed this to the manager he said was I sure it wasn’t my own hair ! I was sorry for the staff when jobs were lost some years after I started my boycott, but a small part of me feels vindicated.

Topps Tiles. They vastly overestimated the amount of flooring I needed then refused to give me a refund for unopened cartons. It took a lot of digging before I found someone high enough up the food chain to get my refund ( over £200) and agree to pick up the unwanted flooring.

Longingforatikihut · 13/11/2021 11:47

Macmillan: when my mum was placed on palliative care they just stopped showing up. They said she would probably end up dying of a secondary infection, not her actual cancer, so they weren't coming anymore. No warning. They just stopped coming. Abandoned my bed bound mum with no care plan. Marie curie turned up within 2 hours and supported mum until the end.

Campfirewood · 13/11/2021 11:47

Agree with booking.com
Customer service couldn't give less of a shit.

Soyouthought · 13/11/2021 11:48

A local cafe where Dd had her first job, awful bully of an owner who regularly made the staff cry. Spent the yearly tips on a night out in a casino that all were invited to but the majority were 16/17 so couldn’t go.

JudgeJ · 13/11/2021 11:52

@Zarene

I want to know what the wildlife charity did to PP!

It’s Snappy Snaps for us, after summer-holiday-photo-gate of 1995.

The camera shop, now defunct I'm glad to say but I still hate the memory of them, where a took a couple of rolls of black and white film that I'd taken at our daughter's wedding, informal reportage shots. I specifically asked if they could deal with black and white, few places could even then, then they assured me they could. When I went to pick them up they had ruined the films by putting them through the colour machine . Only apology was to give me two new rolls of film.
NotQuiteUsual · 13/11/2021 11:54

M+S cancelled my wedding cake a week before my wedding without telling me.
Currys took our money but refused to give us the white goods we ordered or a refund. Took forever to sort. We had to buy a bucket and ice for groceries.

JudgeJ · 13/11/2021 11:55

@Campfirewood

Agree with booking.com Customer service couldn't give less of a shit.
I've only ever had a problem re a booking through them once in twenty yeards and they were brilliant so I suppose people have different experiences of companies. 'The evil men do lives on' I suppose.
