Some very interesting traffic heading to Scotland for Cop 26.

PRES101 from Aerolinas Argentinas appears to be about to land at Prestwick.

Private jet LNX29KG also en route to Glasgow.

Bless you, anyway sweet dreams I best get some zzzzz

@larkstar

I look at it all the time these days - since lock-down restrictions eased I have noticed the increase in traffic - I am underneath the flight paths for both Manchester and East Midlands and I reckon that planes are flying faster and lower than ever on both landing and take off - I've lived in the same place for 20 years and never been bothered by the sound of aircraft - I am acutely sensitive to noise and it's never bothered me until this year.
I doubt speeds and altitudes being flown at have significantly changed in the last year..(for reasons of fuel consumption as much as anything). I guess it’s possible some lateral routing has changed due to reduced traffic which has meant sometimes aircraft have been a able to take short cuts over places that previously didn’t get much traffic. Maybe you’ve become aware of that.

I’m really perplexed by the idea of you being under the “flight paths” of both East Mids and Manchester..are you saying traffic using both these airports is creating a noise nuisance?

Any idea what time we should start looking in earnest tonight for major movements out of the Scottish region?

I had fun watching lots of Belugas yesterday, I guess Monday is their "move parts from the different factories" day of the week as apart fromChester to Hamburg crossing paths with Hamburg to Chester, there were at least 2 others involving Toulouse as well.
@Hawkins001 oh who doesn't love a plush hotel? But I honestly can't fault a premier inn either at times as their beds are soooo comfy! When my work used to do training weeks (pre covid), our contract was with premier inn and I was always so happy cause I got the best sleep ever!

Just checked Norton house - no availability either!
My mum said there’s definitely people from COP staying at Norton. No idea who.

tiredoftiers · 02/11/2021 08:46

Egyptian military aircraft landed not long ago at Glasgow.

HadEnoughOfBears · 02/11/2021 08:51

Biden is on the move.
They don't start very early do they?

KingsleyShacklebolt · 02/11/2021 09:08

First spot of the morning - a Japanese military 777 just flew over my house to land into Glasgow, not showing on Flightradar but it was on the military freedar thingy.

Saw that one, wonder when they’ll all start leaving again? Will it be tonight or tomorrow morning? The airport is so busy just now, really noticing the noise from it. I know they changed the flight path a couple of years back but wonder if I’d just got used to the reduced number of planes.

BabbleBee · 02/11/2021 09:34

@tiredoftiers we live about 45 mins away from Gatwick and nearish one of the flight paths in. I’m really noticing increased noise / planes but I wonder if it was because it was so peaceful during lockdown and now it’s not if that makes sense? I can remember in the first lockdown thinking how clear and blue the sky was without all of the plane trails!

tiredoftiers · 02/11/2021 09:37

Yeah I’m wondering that too. Although the noise from them makes me check flight radar Smile

KingsleyShacklebolt · 02/11/2021 09:50

Early evening maybe? All the planes which have parked up elsewhere will have to come back to Glasgow to collect them all.

As for the "flying faster and lower" - I think smaller planes just appear to be moving faster. When the big Emirates A320 used to come over it looked to be moving so slowly in the sky, but the little Loganair flights from the islands move super-quick. And smaller planes are noisier too, the noisiest thing which goes over here is the police helicopter.

NATS - the air traffic control people - have a big ongoing project to use airspace more efficiently to help planes use less fuel, reduce noise and try to minimise stacking at busy airports

Is it possible to check a flight from a few hours ago? I was woken in the early hours by what sounded like a huge jet immediately overhead - not usual where I am in the Midlands, England, and wondered if it was something to do with COP 26. Similar to the planes I heard in the southwest during the G7 summit.

notimagain · 02/11/2021 10:14

AS I guess you know ATC and the airlines have been on the case regarding efficiency for years.

For example since fast and low has been mentioned you really really don’t want to be flying level at low altitude (bad for fuel use and noise) so for example at Heathrow ATC, and no doubt ATC elsewhere, would try and facilitate what was known as a continuous descent (almost but not quite a glide) at the lower altitudes. To ensure compliance every single aircraft’s vertical profile over the last few miles of the flight was monitored by radar/ADS (the data link system the flight trackers use)…

Every few months a league table of the best/worse performing airlines was published…..

Some of the flight trackers have a playback function such as flight radar or plane finder have a playback function where set a time earlier in the day and then let it run.

Depending on the app military flights might not show…and if you’re not near an airport it’s unlikely to be anything to do with COP..

notimagain · 02/11/2021 10:19

Hope that made sense, must stop using a phone for this but oh for an edit function…..

ButtonSister · 02/11/2021 10:29

@notimagain
Thank you, I'll check it out - I'm relatively near an airport but it's unusual to hear planes as loud as the one I heard last night.

You can use the flight radar website and see what planes are on the ground at and airport
BiscoffAddict · 02/11/2021 11:09

There are a lot of military planes and helicopters out today.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 02/11/2021 11:48

Korean air force just gone over landing into Glasgow too, again not on Flightradar but on the military freedar site.

There’s usually quite a few up, mostly training flights. The USAF are frequently up off the east coast from Lakenheath and Mildenhall, RAF / Navy in Wales, Yorkshire area and Dorset.
WhiteWhiteWhite · 02/11/2021 13:11

Unconnected to COP26, but just played count the military aircraft. 3 Eurofighters & 12 Hawks 🤓

What's the military app some of you use please? I only have Flightrader & Freedar.

The Belugas tend to whizz around the UK, French and German airports most days of the week, to be fair. I’ve seen two near Chester already today, and missed one more.
Bearsbearsbears40 · 02/11/2021 13:22

Two Hercules C130s also flew by this morning but they were just a bit too far away to see, I could hear them though. I don’t think they were related to COP26.

No worries. Just spoke to my mum and she thinks it’s delegates rather than any heads of state.

She was there this morning using the health club and said there were loads of police motorbike officers parked up and hanging around.
