Some very interesting traffic heading to Scotland for Cop 26.

PRES101 from Aerolinas Argentinas appears to be about to land at Prestwick.

Private jet LNX29KG also en route to Glasgow.

The Inverness flight landed before 10. That was an Aberdeen one circling over Stirling.

Yes thanks for the new app too whoever first suggested it. Even more fun after being a keen Flightradar24 user for about 5 years!

InsaneInTheMomBrain · 02/11/2021 22:32

What is this new app of which you speak? 😂

Interested in this thread?

A delayed reaction from me because I had to get ready for bed but I opened the window and listened to it pass over, then SAM46 shortly afterwards. I'm in the east end of Glasgow and I was texting my dad, who was watching it from the east coast.

That was enough excitement for me tonight Grin

MrsFezziwig · 03/11/2021 00:31

Had to be out most of the day and all this evening, so the thread has moved on about ten pages and I’d missed all the excitement! Anyway I’ve read through it all so have been able to participate retrospectively (though some of you have been slacking by not going out to lie in wait for AF1 with night vision cameras!) Grin

Thanks all!

This photo in the Scotsman looks awfully like the one @CormoranStrike took and posted on this thread.

One thing’s for certain - it certainly wasn’t taken when POTUS departed last night..

Well no. The standard of journalism in this country is appalling.

It is my picture yes, used with my permission, but indeed, a photo of him arriving, not departing. The nighttime pics wouldn’t have been particular clear!
KingsleyShacklebolt · 03/11/2021 10:43

Still lots going on this morning, seen a couple of private jets and military aircraft for the people who decided to stay another night. Or Leo di caprio.

Glad they didn’t just steal it @CormoranStrike, you never know these days.

All totally above board, thanks.
CormoranStrike · 03/11/2021 11:31

I’ve gone onto the website and looked - they do have a video of his nighttime departure and the caption is on that, my photo is just illustrating part of his visit I think.

ChristmasGrogu · 09/11/2021 10:22

If a slightly bigger dark/black helicopter goes over my house and doesn’t show up on either Flightradar24 or Military freedar, does that mean it’s Royals or RAF etc?

notimagain · 09/11/2021 11:35

Any bodies guess really though the Royals don’t tend to fly around tha5 much in big helicopters such as Chinnoks.

There might be a whole host of reasons why it’s (or any aircraft for tha5 matter) not visible on a tracker., some quite innocent,

certainly if you live out in “the sticks” and the helicopter is at low level it might simply be that it is operating below the lower level of tracker coverage in your area.

notimagain · 09/11/2021 11:36

Chinooks …….

notimagain · 09/11/2021 11:48

Should also add it used to be the case that Royal helicopter flights were well published by the UK CAA, including routes and timings to avoid any risk of conflict with other traffic.

Not sure what the current state of play is but they certainly did not used to be stealthy..anything but.

ChristmasGrogu · 09/11/2021 14:38

It’s not a chinnock, we get them too. Just seems slightly bigger than normal. We get a lot of military traffic. This one definitely seems to be flying quite low, so maybe it’s just not picked up

theturtleshead · 09/11/2021 18:42

Which app is best for picking up military aircraft? There's been a couple of helicopters overhead today but they don't show on Flightradar24. Coastguard shows sometimes but it's inconsistent.
PS I haven't RTFT Smile

notimagain · 09/11/2021 19:09

Personally mainly this:

globe.adsbexchange.com/

Pretty good coverage of both civilian and military, some of it’s features are a bit techie and probably only of interest to a few, so is possibly many might find it bit less user friendly Flightradar.

I sometimes switch between ADS-B exchange, Flightradar and plane finder as suits the mood.

Olliesocks · 30/11/2021 18:32

I don’t often look on Flight Radar and only use the free version. Just checked to see what the noisy plane was flying over us and now see that it shows ground support vehicles at BHX? Has it always done this?

notimagain · 30/11/2021 21:20

Not sure if it’s always had that feature but it’s being showing suitably equipped ground vehicle for a while…

Olliesocks · 30/11/2021 21:34

Thank you. Why would they do that do you think?

notimagain · 30/11/2021 21:48

Air Traffic Control at major airports often use a thing called Surface Movement Radar to help keep an eye on what is going on the ground (aircraft, vehicles, etc)

skybrary.aero/articles/surface-movement-radar

It’s really something really comes into it’s own on days when the visibility is so bad that it’s not possible for the ground movement controllers to see runways and taxiways from the control tower.
