Life isn't short!

Just thinking, I'm in my 30s so probably not even halfway through it yet. The thought of another 35, 40+ years... 😮 The time I've done already plus even longer on top?! It seems to stretch out like a never ending road. Anyone else feel like that? I know most people say life is short, but i disagree.

It scares me how quickly life is whizzing past. Especially when you have DC and see how quickly they grow up.

MissCruellaDeVil · 30/10/2021 21:51

No, life is too bloody short; and I'm still mid 20s!

Bluepinkyellowcakes · 30/10/2021 21:52

Yes, Spookybean, daunting is exactly the word I was looking for, thank you. Not depressed, but a relationship did end earlier this year so the time stretching ahead isn't what I had planned. Its not just that though, it's the whole concept of time and how it drags and flies at the same time. Right now it's dragging, and the thought of what might still remain ahead of me to get through is daunting. It just feels enormous.

God no!! It’s terrifying how fast it goes! I’m 53, literally five minutes ago I was 30, I don’t know what the fuck happened!
I frequently want to turn the clock back and have all that time again.

Lynne1Cat · 30/10/2021 21:52

I'm 62, and it doesn't seem long ago since I was in my 40s, working lots of hours, always very busy, and now I'm thankful to be here, after having Covid, Pneumonia, a stroke, all whilst being on a ventilator for 2 weeks (July). I'm more or less back to normal now, and want to try to make the most of my time (10-15 years, if that?) left.

@TheLastSpookyBakedBeanSaysBoo
My pleasure. It gives me goose bumps.

SwedishEdith · 30/10/2021 21:55

I feel like this when I'm feeling low. But, now, in my late 50s, I can start to work out how many holidays I may still reasonably have assuming a slow down in my 70s. And that's not many.

TheUndeadLovelinessOfDemons · 30/10/2021 21:58

Life is so short.

FleshLiabilities · 30/10/2021 22:00

I think it depends on your mental state. If you're happy and well adjusted, then life can probably seem very short. If you find life taxing and difficult it can seem like an awful long time.

SlB09 · 30/10/2021 22:03

I also feel like this when down/depressed but otherwise from about 35 onwards life flies by, to think I'll soon be 49 and each year is flashing before my eyes is abit terrifying really. But to be honest having a small child has made time whizz by, I think?? It will slow down once I have more time tk myself.... However reading other replies maybe it will get quicker as I'll be even older!

Bluepinkyellowcakes · 30/10/2021 22:06

No, I've got small children, well 4 and 8 plus an older teen, and still time doesn't fly. I look forward to bedtime to sleep some of it away to be honest.

0-30 went very slowly! I can remember loads from those years, days went on forever.
The last 20 years have gone by so quickly it’s frightening. I am one of those people that think the 1990s were the last decade.
Time definitely speeds up.

Bluepinkyellowcakes · 30/10/2021 22:08

I mean occasionally it flies, it's the time ahead I'm thinking of. Obviously I do look forward to the children growing up but it's the time that takes and the time after that til whenever the end is, like I said seems vast as an ocean and yes, daunting.

Depends, if you're loving life then it will seem short, if not enjoying life then it will seem long!

Blindleadingtheblind · 30/10/2021 22:13

I think it flies by. Utterly crazy how fast it goes. I'm 35 with an 8 and 6 year old. 40 is staring me in the face.

Candleabra · 30/10/2021 22:13

Life is short. And shorter for some than others. Having lost several close relatives at an unexpectedly young age, I’d say make the most of it. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.

WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 30/10/2021 22:15

I used to feel like that op, I'm now almost 50, that came around really quickly from being 30. My Mum died at 69 so it's now dawned on me that if I'm like my Mum, I've got less than 20 years left. Suddenly it's really short.

MajorCarolDanvers · 30/10/2021 22:17

I'm 47 and it's flipping flying by.

You will feel quite differently when you are a bit older.

Amdone123 · 30/10/2021 22:18

I probably thought like op when I was younger but now I'm 54, it's going so fast and I would dearly love to live til I'm 100 !
There are 11 months between my dsis and I. When we were kids, we laughed and had so much fun. As teenagers we were swines ( my mum's words), as mums we went through the usual turmoil and stresses, good times too, and now we're both grandmothers and loving every minute. We both want to be around for as long as possible.

MynameisJune · 30/10/2021 22:21

No it’s too short, my eldest is 6. It breaks my heart that I have maybe 7-8 years of her being mine and the she’ll be gone, into adulthood and her own life. The days are long but the years are short and I need more time.

Lurleene · 30/10/2021 22:22

It definitely goes quicker each year. I was horrified today when I realised that my MIL was younger than I am now when we met over 20 years ago. That time has gone in a flash and she is going to be 70 next year.

userxx · 30/10/2021 22:23

@SandraOhh

Yep. It's terrifying and makes me feel very trapped. I'm 28 and already had enough.

This is really sad to read.

CokeZeroAddiction · 30/10/2021 22:27

Do you have kids? I feel that makes it fly by.

Bluepinkyellowcakes · 30/10/2021 22:35

Life is like a roll of toilet paper
The closer to the end you get the faster it goes
