Life isn't short!

Just thinking, I'm in my 30s so probably not even halfway through it yet. The thought of another 35, 40+ years... 😮 The time I've done already plus even longer on top?! It seems to stretch out like a never ending road. Anyone else feel like that? I know most people say life is short, but i disagree.

But why would you twist something in such a way that makes you upset?

userxx · 01/11/2021 09:00

@makelovenotpetrol That's true, but it wasn't the op's intention to upset you. Try and see if from her point of view as she has seen it from yours.

I know plenty of posters have said this, but I'd like to reiterate how short it can be, and you're lucky if it's long.

My poor sil died of cancer aged 43, 2 members of close friendship group died in 30s/40s, dh's school friend died of covid the week before Christmas aged 50.

In the last 2 weeks, 2 relatives of clients, both men in their 40s have died in their sleep with no known health issues.

You literally never know the minute. Be thankful for your time and that of your loved ones.

OP, do you get any meaningful time to yourself? Could it be that the day to day drudgery of life is taking its toll with no time for anything fun / hobbies etc? I feel like that sometimes (esp when I've just cleaned a room and it looks like a tip 30 seconds after the hordes come home again!).

OP
I have just been with mum who is really struggling now with long life. I mean she has for a while, but there are sudden turns in age and frailty and she's in another decline, wondering how many more.

I think people have twisted your words.

My heart will break when she's gone but it all seems very unfair.

A pp mentioned chronic illness. I have that but it was worst in my teens and 20s. I think many of us with chronic illness worry how that will go in later life.

Yes I probably have too much time to myself. I think I need to keep busier, and focus on the here and now. Thinking ahead at what may be does feel overwhelming. Is good to hear I'm not alone feeling like this though, well not good because it's a bit rubbish, but you know what I mean! It's one of those things we "shouldn't say" but seems a few people still feel. But then again I am one of those people who moans when it's too hot/sunny too, so I tend to go against the popular opinion 😂

I feel the exact opposite and it actually scares me, so I try not to think about it too much...

I'm late 30s and hopefully have at least the same time again (but as PP have said, you don't ever know)...

But I remember my childhood quite well so it doesn't seem that long ago. To think I only have that amount of time left and then that's it terrifies me.

Plus the second half of my life is statistically likely to be less healthy...

🤷‍♀️ Sorry, have always been a glass half-empty person...
