Is there any decent soap left? Recommended me some!

Imperial leather -what happened to it? It's a mushy mess! Eugh, and I've got four bars of the foul stuff.

I'm sure it never used to be so soft and messy. Is there any decently priced soap ( could push the boat out for some quality) that won't mush or crack?

I prefer bar soap to liquid.

Thank you!

I cut a slice from a loofa and use that as a soap dish. It seems to allow the soap to dry out and not crack or go soggy.
I really liked Waitrose Clementine and Ginger soap especially in the kitchen.
There's a lot of good recommendations on here for me to go through now and get some for the bathrooms.

Another vote here for TKMaxx. I also use Wrights Coal Tar soap as love the smell( not to everyone's liking though), also Sanex bar soap which most chemists stock.

Go onto www.Bronnely.co.uk they have some really lovely soaps , especially their Christmas and Easter collections . My favourite Bronnley is the Freesia soap .

Scottish Fine Soaps-Au Lait and lots of others
Check out Sea Shed and their soaps
Green Pharmacy soaps are fantastic- they don’t lather well but don’t dry the skin and are very gentle

Chikapu · 21/10/2021 14:21

Faith in Nature Lavender soap is lovely and doesn't go mushy.

Ladyrattles · 21/10/2021 14:24

We still all use J&J baby soap.. and the kids are now older teens. People often comment on my skin and all I use is that soap

Aargh, why didn't I think of that! I ended up with plastic ones.

stillcrazyafterall · 21/10/2021 16:49

Open your soap and stick it in your knicker drawer for a few months. It 'hardens' it and it stays solid. I've done this all my life as did my mum and her mum...

@MountainDweller

Nesti Dante or L'Occitane. I have a soap rack that looks like a mini cake cooling rack, so plenty of air can get to it.
@MountainDweller Ooh can I ask where you got your soap dish from, this is exactly what I need?

Yorkshire Soap

TuftyMarmoset · 21/10/2021 17:21

I use faith in nature or little soap company and they don’t mush. My soap dish is like a rectangle frame with bamboo dowels that the soap sits on though rather than being fully enclosed at the bottom iyswim.

We're on lidl bar soap, just fine - unscented but I prefer that

BringMeTea · 21/10/2021 19:50

@Fairyliz I got mine from Muji.

Wrights Coal Tar soap. I leave the house every morning smelling like a freshly tarmaced road.

Arran soaps for me too. I love this - it's in the men's section, but has lovely oatmeal bits and lasts for ages, so not as extravagant as it looks. (The scent is quite subtle, not at all 1970s Camden Market.)

@OrrAppleCheeks

Waitrose own brand - camomile or ginger and something - is really good for a supermarket soap. But comes in cellophane packaging.
They’ve discontinued that soap. Last time I went in it was 75p a bar so I bought about ten. The clementine and ginger is my favourite. I’m really hoping it’s only been discontinued to be rereleased in an eco friendly wrapper, but I’m not too hopeful as the shower gel has disappeared too.
MountainDweller · 24/10/2021 23:23

@Fairyliz sorry I am so late coming back. It's really old and can't remember where it was from but if it's any help it looks like this

Glad you have another recommendation!

They're still doing the Essential Camomile bars in Waitrose

I use soaps by Diptyque, Roger & Gallet and Faith In Nature. I find that none of them go squishy (note the pricing differential … so price doesn’t matter in my opinion).

I use a flat soap dish (actually it’s a little handpainted bowl with wiggly edges which my mum brought back from Spain) and even so, they never go mushy.

In my opinion the crucial factor is keeping your soap well away from the shower itself. My soap dish is on a shelf which absolutely does not get wet at all from the shower. My bathroom is also well ventilated. All the soaps I use dry out easily and don’t get mushy. Anyone having problems with mushy soap, do check you’re storing it sufficiently far from the bath/shower and in a very well ventilated spot to help it dry out.

I always buy Little Soap Company soaps. The lemon one is my favourite. Sudsy, doesn't crack or go squishy, leaves you feeling very clean. Eco friendly packaging, natural ingredients, vegan, cruelty free. Love it. Available in most supermarkets, Boots and Amazon etc.

After I’ve used up this one www.scottishfinesoaps.com/collections/luxury-wrapped-soap/products/gilded-rosebud-wrapped-soaps

I’ve also got Rose and Geranium friendly bar to use. Plus some neals yards and faith in nature ones.

Gah it’s going to be summer before I can justify more purchases!

GirlWithAGuitar · 25/10/2021 03:02

Faith in Nature soap is nice, ethical too. I get it from Holland and Barrett.

DroopyClematis · 25/10/2021 07:52

Putting a soap bar on a radiator will help to harden it and stop it cracking or mushing.
