Is there any decent soap left? Recommended me some!

Imperial leather -what happened to it? It's a mushy mess! Eugh, and I've got four bars of the foul stuff.

I'm sure it never used to be so soft and messy. Is there any decently priced soap ( could push the boat out for some quality) that won't mush or crack?

I prefer bar soap to liquid.

Thank you!

Pears because it doesn’t go mushy ...or go dry and start cracking. I feel much cleaner too after using it.

CityDweller · 20/10/2021 20:22

Pears
Waitrose clear soaps (clementine and ginger)
Faith in Nature

Those are the ones I buy regularly and none mush. The Waitrose one doesn’t last very long though

@viques you can often find me there, furtively lowering my mask so I can have a good sniff.

I buy from www.frenchsoaps.co.uk as I love savon de Marseilles. It's about the only thing that doesn't wind up anyone in this house's hands.
We've had so many reactions to liquid soaps, used lush ones (lovely but go mushy) etc. The French ones are always a winner.

Reptar · 20/10/2021 21:21

We bought some clear melt and pour soap as a lockdown activity, added some different scents and its lovely. It helps if you leave it to cure for a while before using.

susiella · 20/10/2021 21:22

Nesti Dante or Pears.
The Pears fragrance has changed though. It's not as nice as it was.

TheBitterBoy · 20/10/2021 21:31

Imperial leather has changed formulation, they've taken out the animal fat, so that is why it's suddenly going mushy. I like original Pears soap, lasts really well, no mushyness. They do a green version which smells lovely, but does get slightly squishy after a while.

I recently got some of this. It smells divine, doesn't go mushy or crack and I will most definitely be buying more.. They do s deal if you buy 5 in a pack, they don't all have to be the same. My dh liked the caramelised orange and son, yorkshire lad. They have lasted really well. I'm very impressed

BlowDryRat · 20/10/2021 21:40

I bought a box of Original Source bar soaps from Amazon. There's no plastic packaging and no palm oil. They also smell beautiful. Don't last very long though.

Reptar · 20/10/2021 21:44

If you have an International store or Asian supermarket near you, look for the sandalwood soap. You can also get it in bulk on Ebay.

Fuckitsstillraining · 20/10/2021 21:46

I store my bars of soap in my hotpress (airing cupboard), have done this for years and find it helps them stay solid and they last longer too. I buy whatever I like the smell of but prefer the more 'natural' types, I leave them at least a few months in the hotpress and get the bonus of a beautiful scent when I open the door.

AmandaHoldensLips · 20/10/2021 21:48

I'm addicted to the smell of Wrights coal tar soap. I have to stop and smell it any time I see it in a shop.

ShowMeHow · 20/10/2021 21:50

Simple
For sensitive skinned folk

Pears
For bathroom sinks - suits everyone

Palmolive
for me in the shower so good for my skin and easily identifyable

Dove for kids - moisturising and the bird pic is a bonus

None of the above melt but Imperial leather sure does and is not coming to a sink near me for that reason.

Gatekeeper · 20/10/2021 21:52

Nesti Dante without a shadow of a doubt. I unearthed a 12 year old bar today when sorting through my late dad's stuff and it still smelled divine

MountainDweller · 20/10/2021 21:56

Nesti Dante or L'Occitane. I have a soap rack that looks like a mini cake cooling rack, so plenty of air can get to it.

mrsfollowill · 20/10/2021 21:57

Another Pears fan here- the 'new' stuff doesn't smell quite as good admittedly. It's very gentle but leaves you feeling ultra clean- I use it on my face twice a day as well as in the shower. I also like Sanex soap although it smells quite 'clinical'. This thread has got me thinking though and I'm off to investigate some of these lovely sounding other bar soaps!

OverByYer · 20/10/2021 21:59

Another vote for all the lovely European soap in TKMaxx

OxanaVorontsova · 20/10/2021 21:59

Soapsmith as well as others already mentioned.

Borrasca · 20/10/2021 22:00

Nesti Dante here too - never mushy, always smell divine and the bars are huge!

Me too. Absolutely love their soap. It lasts for ages, doesn't dry your skin out and smells divine.
Ktay · 20/10/2021 22:02

The Senspa relaxing soap in Waitrose is lovely - lavender and geranium

Upsky · 20/10/2021 22:03

I love Pears. Quite like the green one but original is best.
Also, to avoid mush, use a folded flannel instead of a soap dish so the soap isn't steeped in water.

HollyHocks13 · 20/10/2021 22:05

Nesti Dante is incredible soap, a complete game changer! I saw it recommended on here and once I'd tried it, will never go back to shower gels or other soaps. You can buy them on Amazon but you often find them in TK Maxx too Smile

Sexnotgender · 20/10/2021 22:06

Get yourself something that’s triple milled. I buy from tk maxx.

Chunkymenrock · 20/10/2021 22:09

Pears soap is great, especially the blue or green one.
