I loved it but then I loved Black Mirror too.

Letting children watch it is negligence in my opinion.

CanIPleaseHaveOne · 08/10/2021 04:40

@cloudtree

I am shocked that anyone has let their child under 16 watch it. I mean come on Ffs, parent your children. It’s horrific graphic fucked up violence and sex
Honestly ! How are people so blasé about that?
PinkCricket · 08/10/2021 05:14

I am genuinely shocked people would post to say "I dont know anything about it but my kids watch it..."

I am not sure easy access netflix in a childs room without parental controls is a good thing here 🙄

Newjobnewstart · 08/10/2021 05:18

Both my 11 and 9 year old have asked to watch it as all there friends have. I am normally quite relaxed but no way am I letting them so I am the worst mother ever apparently.

echt · 08/10/2021 05:41

It's great.

View it Korean, with English subs.

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/10/2021 06:05

@cloudtree

I knew dd wouldn’t be into it. She hates pretty much all fiction. But all her friends have watched it and talk about it a lot. She spent 80% of the time looking at her phone and didn’t want to watch anymore. Had I said no, she would have just watched it on the sly. My reasoning with teens is why have the argument when it’s not necessary?

Ah, so your seemingly negligent parenting was actually wise parenting - well done you!

You’re probably being sarcastic but reverse psychology can work well. She watched it with me and I’d already watched it first. I did the same thing with stranger things when she was 10/11. That lasted 10 mins. She doesn’t like teen / adult fiction and is heavily into watching sport so much so that she asked me if the people in squid games died irl.

Not being a well person, I take the wins where I can. I don’t have enough energy to fight everything; to get another ‘you don’t let me do anything’ thrown back at me.

I can’t believe 9 and 11 yos are allowed to watch the stuff. What must it be doing to their brains?. Do they actually enjoy it? I only have one child to compare. Dd was still watching really little kids stuff at that time - unlike her friends, who were hooked on tv shows like stranger things and friends.

PinkCricket · 08/10/2021 06:09

Wow that does show you how much adults take for granted about what children are thinking when they watch programmes like this.

All those parents who have let their kids watch this on their own would probably assume their kids know it isn't real... but I bet many of them would wonder.

InnPain · 08/10/2021 06:30

I was very disappointed with the way it ended. The thrill of the show was the games, they were brilliant to watch.

DazzleDrops · 08/10/2021 06:38

Agree that the ending was slightly anti climactic, however it sets the scene for series 2.
I loved it, the games were brilliant albeit extremely violent and graphic.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 08/10/2021 06:51

I loved it, but I honestly think letting a preteen watch it is abuse. Your brain is like your body what you put in you get out. These kids all waking around with tragic torture scenes in there heads can’t be healthy.

AnotherName456 · 08/10/2021 06:58

@WhichHairBear

I thought it was incredibly dystopian n really crap. Wouldn't recommend in the slightest. Predictable, boring and very poor dubbing
Why wouldn't you watch the subtitles? I really don't understand why anyone would choose to watch the dubbed version Confused
ParadiseLaundry · 08/10/2021 07:03

I want to watch it but can some tell me, does it show any babies or children being hurt? I don't mind d blood, torture and gore in general but can't bare things where children are hurt.

HarlanPepper · 08/10/2021 07:04

@AnotherName456 I used to think that too but then someone set me straight. For people with dyslexia and other processing disorders, subtitles make it really difficult to follow what's happening.

Anycolourwilldo · 08/10/2021 07:11

@ParadiseLaundry no it doesn't. Just adults.

ParadiseLaundry · 08/10/2021 07:20

Thank you @Anycolourwilldo I'll give it a watch!

TeenTraumaTrials · 08/10/2021 07:27

DS 12 asked about this but I did a bit of googling and decided he was too young. I got the usual "but everyone else is watching it" but after a day he stopped asking. DD 16 watched the first couple of episodes but didn't really enjoy it. And she said no way was it suitable for DS. Might let him start watching Riverdale as a consolation as he's been asking about that for about a year ......

Hopeisallineed · 08/10/2021 07:27

I’ve watched it, no way would I let my 11 or my 14 year old watch it. Agree with pp that is should be an 18. You don’t need an argument @Mummyoflittledragon should be just a firm no as it already has a rating, for a reason . Set some bloody boundaries. I really enjoyed it though and Alice in Borderland which is similar, it’s not a new concept but a good one.

Flackattack · 08/10/2021 07:30

I loved it - only wish I had put subtitles on rather than dubbing.
It’s not horror porn like hostel or saw - I hate those things!
Trying Alice in borderland now with subtitles!

Definitely not child friendly.

Silverswirl · 08/10/2021 07:32

The sheer amour of parents perfectly happy to let their kids aged 9+ watch this at the moment is completely disturbing.
There was a large discussion on this on a big Facebook group for parents recently and there were many many mums defending letting their younger kids watch it. Some criticisingthose who don’t let their kids watch it as ‘having a stick up their bum’
Gobsmacked. I have kids in the preteen category and because so many friends have watched it and claimed it’s the best thing ever, I am the worst mum and the nagging goes on and on.
Really gives me the rage.

GreatBritishShartOff · 08/10/2021 07:33

Don't watch it dubbed. Watch in Korean with subtitles TRUST ME.

And then watch Alice in Borderland.

00100001 · 08/10/2021 07:44

I think people let them watch it because

 1. Pester power
 2. They aren't watching it themselves,so probably think it's along the lines of hunger games
 3. The people are playing "games" for money, and it's an elimination type game. Which, if you've shown no interest/haven't watched... sounds fine.
 4. Some parents are fucking moronic
00100001 · 08/10/2021 07:45

They're probably the same parents allowing their 6 yo to play GTA and CoD etc

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/10/2021 07:46

@Hopeisallineed
I’m far too ill to work and there are many days when I can’t leave the house. I make choices about how and when to expend my energy of which the average person has no concept. Eg cook dinner today or have a shower. There are many days, when I can’t do both. Setting boundaries when I’m working at this level is not easy. Especially as my brain shuts down the more ill I get, the more so my vocabulary is severely compromised. Setting boundaries when I’m like that, and I’m like this often would be shouting a bunch of expletives, which wouldn’t be idea.

AnotherName456 · 08/10/2021 07:55
@AnotherName456 I used to think that too but then someone set me straight. For people with dyslexia and other processing disorders, subtitles make it really difficult to follow what's happening.
And that is fair enough, I'm actually dyslexic myself so should have really thought about that before I posted. I do find it irritating when someone says something is crap because of poor dubbing though, it's actually a really good series so that's obviously not the case.

iloveeverykindofcat · 08/10/2021 08:28

I'll have to try it without the dubbing then. I also prefer dubbing to subs due to a visual processing disorder but the English speaking actors are at unbelievable levels of cringe now. A local am dram society could do better.
