00100001 · 08/10/2021 21:47

Not to mention rape, murder, kicking people to death, biting, punching, choking, suicide....

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 08/10/2021 21:49

@Butteredtoast55

As a Headteacher, I have had to address a child watching this today and how much it's upset him. He's in Year 1.
Bloody hell Can you raise that as a concern to the parents?
RedRiverShore · 08/10/2021 21:51

Watched first episode and though it was dull, lead character was annoying, much shooting and killing, very overdone

00100001 · 08/10/2021 21:52

@Flowersintheattic2021

Isit bad. Not seen it but my nearly 12 year old is watching it
Your letting your ELEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD watch a show where multiple men rape a dying woman to then have a player take organs out of her whilst she's still alive??

You let your11 year old watch a show where they hang corpses from the rafters to show contestants what happens if they're caught cheating?

You allow your CHILD to watch a show where a wealthy man can order a subservient member of staff to give him a blowjob?

Disgraceful.

WaterScarf · 08/10/2021 21:56

I'm just watching the dubbed version on Gogglebox.

I'm glad I watched it in Korean with subtitles it's much more engaging in it's original language as is every other foreign film / TV show

youvegottenminuteslynn · 08/10/2021 21:56

@Kerzel

Absolutely loved it!

My daughter aged 12 has watched it. Yes, there’s a sex scene and violence but is it any worse than Nightmare on Elm Street/Halloween/The Exorcist that I watched that age? No.

I’m a teacher and it’s literally all year 7+ are talking about.

How did you navigate the blow job / murder scene with your 12 year old daughter for example? She shouldn't be watching that shit, it's disgusting you think it's ok to have let her. Jesus Christ. Poor girl.
HalzTangz · 08/10/2021 22:01

I have just seen a clip of this on goggle box, and glad I didn't waste my time following all the sheep bleating on about this as being best show ever.
It's disgraceful and tasteless

WaterScarf · 08/10/2021 22:01

It's pretty violent, I loved it.

My DS 16 and DD 13 have decided not to watch it but if they did there's not much I could do to stop them tbh.

00100001 · 08/10/2021 22:03

@youvegottenminuteslynn inncan only imagine that @Kerzel thinks it's fine for her daughter to view a programme where a naked woman is being used as a footstool, pillow and decoration.

She presumably thinks it's fine for her daughter to listen to a man talk about how he and other men raped a dying woman and then went on to help deliver her organs that were removed whilst she was still alive.

👍

RedRiverShore · 08/10/2021 22:06

The most shocking thing was how rubbish it was

Why was it rubbish?
TheGrumpyGoat · 08/10/2021 22:17

@Kerzel I am actually gobsmacked that you think this is ok for a 12 year old to watch. As a teacher.

Hopeisallineed · 08/10/2021 22:20

Can’t believe the amount of parents who don’t seem to want to protect their kids from these kinds of images. At 11/12 your children are still babies, they have only been in this planet for 11 years and need help navigating life and that includes having boundaries set. Comments like ‘ well if they wanted to watch it there’s not much I could do amount it’ amaze me. Who is the parent here? How about a simple ‘no’? Seems like it’s anything for an easy life or if other kids are watching it then ‘I have to give in to pressure’ well you don’t. Try being an bloody parent and stand firm.

00100001 · 08/10/2021 22:21

@milkysmum

I have only watched episode 1, but as others have said my daughter ( nearly 13 ) has watched the whole thing and rated it. She watched it on Netflix on her tv in her room, and to be fair- all of her friends have also seen it as I have heard them all chatting about it.
So have you spoken to her about the rape? The suicide? The murder and betrayal? The organ harvesting? The objectification of women? The shooting people in the head?
RedRiverShore · 08/10/2021 22:22

I said upthread why it was rubbish, I only watched first episode and found it dull and it looked like the rest was just going to be more of the same and that the annoying main character would probably be in every episode. I'm probably too old for it.

00100001 · 08/10/2021 22:23

Oh well in that case, you may as well just let them watch porn, buy them vodka and let them smoke weed.

I mean, after all, if they decided to do these things, there's not much you could do to stop them tbh

The main character grows and changes to be fair. I don't think you're supposed to like him to begin with.
Nahhh · 08/10/2021 22:31

Had a huge argument at school today as 5 and 6 year olds are watching it, talking about it and consequently exposing my children to elements of it 🤯

CoastalWave · 08/10/2021 22:32

Wow. There are some truly shit parents on this thread.

And shit like this shouldn't even be made. It's disturbing.

Timeisavirtue · 08/10/2021 22:34

Dsis17 and ds13 started to watch it yesterday but then dd9 came in the room and they turned it off.. she asked me today if she could watch it and I shut that down immediately. She gets scared the bad genie in Aladdin so no chance.... it’s a nuts tv programme, I’ve had to stop for a few breathers.

WaterScarf · 08/10/2021 22:36

Apart from chaining them up and locking them in the cellar @00100001 no dear there's not much I can do to prevent any of that from happening.

NessieMcNessface · 08/10/2021 22:41

I thought the show was amazing and was absolutely hooked from the start. I’ve watched it again since and enjoyed it even more, even though I’m not usually into programmes with such a degree of violence. It’s quirky and refreshingly different, appealing to a wide audience. It’s also very moving at times as the characters develop and you get to know everyone’s back stories. It’s interesting how people can feel so differently about it but in the end I suppose it’s down to personal preference. Many people have answered your question OP so I won’t add any further opinion other than to thoroughly recommend it to you! Best thing I’ve watched for a long time.

If I'm honest, you disturb me a bit!

Nice.

Buy them some ciggies whilst you're at the shops why not.

Kerzel · 08/10/2021 22:51

This thread sums up everything that is wrong with my mumsnet. Sanctimonious, better than thou, perfect parents that have completely unrealistic expectations of what their teens actually up to.

You slate parents who have let their teens watch it all you like. You are kidding yourself. Your teens are watching this whether you ‘approve’ or not.

I asked my DD if she felt it was real, traumatic, etc - she laughed and gave me the ‘are you serious?’ look. We discussed the themes, character arcs etc and she 100% could discuss it analytically as a work of fiction.

The fact posters are criticising me as a teacher shows the ignorance certain parents actually have about what being a teen these days is like. If you think Squid Games is the epitome of negativity influence, god help you.

Bring on the the ‘neglect’ / ‘terrible teacher’ posts please and let me laugh at you ignorance.
