Previously undecided voters would you vote for Starmer's Labour now?

Are there any previously Tory voters or undecided voters who would now consider voting Labour in a GE based on Kier Starmer's speech and him taking on the far left of the party?

I vote Labour anyway but I'm interested if any of his speech "cut through" as they say. To my eyes the main heckler just came across like a complete loony and made Kier Starmer's stance look even more sensible.

I refuse to give that newspaper clicks! It’s a horrible newspaper.

BadLad · 03/10/2021 07:20

It certainly is.

Seems like very poor judgement by Starter.

Fair enough although it means some may click it.

I guess, a generous interpretation, is that he’s trying to do what Blair did, which was to court the likes of Murdoch.

However we live in a different world now and many of us don’t consume news in the same way anymore.

CormoranStrike · 03/10/2021 07:29

I feel so dreadfully, disturbingly politically homeless.

MarshaBradyo · 03/10/2021 07:30

Someone was telling me he has some of same team to Blair

This kind of papering over cracks doesn’t work if the policies are off

Iggly · 03/10/2021 07:33

I want policies that deal with the issues I face now, not a hark back to the Blair days:

  • as a parent I’m worried about internet safety and the difficult to filtering out shit for my children’s mental health
  • as a parent I want investment in catch up education post covid
  • as a parent I want investment in school buildings. They’re falling apart and it’s disgraceful
  • as a woman and mother of a daughter I want to feel safe walking the streets

There are more, but those are my key ones at the moment.

Everyone saying you are politically homeless due to Labour's stance on trans rights, what would you like to see from another party on this issue that would allow you to vote for them?
It's WOMENS RIGHTS and their erosion and removal that concern me. I'm sick of the twisting. Womens rights. I'm FOR womens rights.

Exactly people need to get the basics right.

I'd like assurance that ideology will never form legislation, that freedom of belief still stands in England, that we will never follow Scotland into this.

I'd like sexual coercion condemned, gay men and lesbians are same SEX attracted and heterosexual people are opposite SEX attracted, that is not hatred.

I'd like assurance that women can still have spaces and services free from men and transwomen, so that women with Rape Trauma Syndrome do not have to limit how they can participate in society because they can guarantee not ever being alone with a man they do not know.

I'd like vulnerable prisoner wings in the male prison estate to accommodate transwomen.

I'd like health services told in no uncertain terms that women are not disappearing and still need information available to them about their bodies which doesn't desperately beat around the bush to avoid the word woman.

I'd like crimes against thoughts taken off of peoples records.

I'd like them to not take money from pharmaceutical companies which make puberty blockers, I cannot see anything they say as unbiased when they do that.

Crimeismymiddlename · 03/10/2021 09:27

No, politians rely on good speaches as a smoke screen rather than putting in the work for policy’s that put the electorate at the forefront of everything they do. I am politically homeless and the ignorance of women and the lack of support for the victims in the cladding crisis really was it for me. Is it too much for the parties to consider that all people want is nice, safe places to live, decent education, a well supported social service
system and an NHS that isn’t buckling under incompetent running-they bang on about education and the NHS but rarely do anything, and never mention the rest.

That would be women's rights

We aren't fighting for trans people or against them. We are fighting the steady and complete erosion of women's rights.

And a simple

Woman = adulthuman female

And to stop pissing around with all the only women have cervixes etc.

Transwomen are transwomen, male
Transmen are transmen, female

They have rights, human rights and the rights of anyone else of their sex, plus that of their gender reassignment.

Women require their hard won rights to be protected. Transwomen are not women, do not have any right to any service, space or law that is for women.

Work from there... women's rights.

MacNTosh · 03/10/2021 09:32

No, life long Labour Party member here, I had high hopes for Keir, but his lack of stance on women’s rights is totally disappointing.

What is their stance on women's rights, how about we hear about that?

That would be a good start.

Again, for anyone who hasn't had their lightbulb moment yet, women's rights. We're all talking about women's rights. We don't want and won't vote for any party that glibly erodes or endangers women's rights.

PickledOnionMonsterMunchies · 04/10/2021 12:59

It's baffling to me how qualities like integrity, intelligence and diligence are seen as not enough, and yet voters are prepared to overlook or even embrace the vacuous and deceitful qualities of Boris Johnson. Starmer was spot on when he called him a trivial man.

Starmer is on a political tightrope. He's got to unite a party and get rid of antisemitism, appeal to voters in Rochdale and Dalston. As Ayesha Hazareka said on the radio this morning, Leader of the Opposition is the hardest job in politics - you are judged far more harshly than the PM. Winning an election must come first before anything else.

I also don't get people saying he didn't spell out his policies explicitly enough. No-one does this midterm with a likely election so far away. His first job was to spell out his personal motivation and drivers to those who don't feel they know him - motivations which by the way come from a desire to change society for the better, and not a desire for celebrity and power like the current incumbent.

He struck just the right tone for me and comes across as a safe pair of hands which is what we need after this liability of a PM.

Rhannion · 04/10/2021 13:28

Starmer is spineless, same as Johnson.

PickledOnionMonsterMunchies · 04/10/2021 14:51

He's spent his life fighting injustice. Johnson was a slimy hack who arranged for a colleague to get beaten up, and who penned dog-whistling racist weekly columns for an eye watering salary. There's no comparison!

BelleOfTheProvince · 04/10/2021 15:15

I'm a Nogetmyxifyoudon'trespectmysexosaurus.
Labour made it very clear they don't want my nasty rights hoarding vote.
🦕
Until they get their ploddy feet off my rights they can plod off.

No. I have a cervix.
Doesn’t make you a woman apparently
Iggly · 04/10/2021 16:12

Well I heard what Liz Truss had to say about her appointment as minister for women and equalities. She fundamentally doesn’t think that women’s rights is a “thing”. So I can’t see the Tories offering much in this space beyond using it as a chance to be nasty about trans rights but say fuck all positive about women’s rights. M
I suspect she’s one of those who thinks that just because the Tories have produced two female prime ministers, feminism is irrelevant.

It's a beggars' choice.

You have the tone of someone who thinks they are offering a huge treat and that people who don't want it at merely stupid and ignorant. It's like father Christmas pulling a fox turd and a dog turd out of his bag, then berating you for not going for it because a dog turd has a consistency More like walnut whip.
No one wants the turds you are offering. Do better.

I'm going to assume bad faith, seeing as how in this and other threads you not only fail to engage in the issues raised, beyond whataboutism, but continually frame it as trans rights when you've been told enough to it's about women's rights, spaces and sports.
