Previously undecided voters would you vote for Starmer's Labour now?

Are there any previously Tory voters or undecided voters who would now consider voting Labour in a GE based on Kier Starmer's speech and him taking on the far left of the party?

I vote Labour anyway but I'm interested if any of his speech "cut through" as they say. To my eyes the main heckler just came across like a complete loony and made Kier Starmer's stance look even more sensible.

@Coyoacan

I suspect that Starmer is working for the Tories. He's alienated women, the left and pro-Palestinians
You do realise that absolutely nobody who lives in Stoke, Mansfield, Hartlepool or Blyth Valley, the seats Labour needs to win back to have any chance of winning the next election, gives a flying fuck about bloody Palestine, don’t you?
Carriemac · 02/10/2021 08:51

I work with people form
Mansfield , and I can assure you they do care about Palestine

What makes you say that?

Yes.

I'm a previous Labour voter who was left politically homeless by Corbyn.

I'd be comfortable voting Labour again.

WhereYouLeftIt · 02/10/2021 09:20

@VinylQueen

I think Starmer is a decent guy, and I'm fed up with having total assholes in charge. I strongly suspect he wouldn't even start legislation on self ID were he to win a GE, and that he'd prioritise a million other policies before even looking into gender ID. I don't think the legislation would be brought in or even put forward.

I think it's disappointing that the shadow cabinet said these things about cervixes in interviews, but he's in between a rock and a hard place with all the far left threats and is kicking the can down the road to keep the far left loonies off his case on yet another toxic argument.

No, he's not a decent guy. He's spineless, has no strongly-help beliefs, sways in the wind blown by lobbyists.

And as for "I strongly suspect ..." - I strongly suspect he's a hostage to the lobbyists. That's how it works when you have no convictions, you chase what you think is the populist vote; and they've built an echo chamber around him, so guess which way he'll lean.

WhereYouLeftIt · 02/10/2021 09:26

@thewhatsit

Maybe. I do like what he’s doing with the party but I worry the hard left won’t go down without a fight. Also Angela Rayner as deputy leader puts me off so much. I think it’s a real issue that the party votes for deputy and the leader just has to put up with it. I really really like Lisa Nandy and the more prominent she is the more I consider it.
Lisa Nandy? The woman who is so for selfID she backs rapists in female prisons?
WhereYouLeftIt · 02/10/2021 09:27

Here's the video of her laying out her position.

A decent guy? Are you on glue?

He sits on the fence over issues that really mattered, like actually giving the Tories an opposition during covid but when it comes to womens rights he seems happy to throw them down the toilet along with any integrity he may have had.

He is an absolute snake and if you believe he cares a jot about our the erasure of women and will do something about it whilst in power you are insane. As always happens the womens rights issue will get pushed down the list of priorities in favour of trying to "get one over" the Tories and keep the boys club happy.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 02/10/2021 09:38

No regardless of who was leading. After tax credits, I’d never vote Labour again.

Beepbeeprichie · 02/10/2021 09:39

Nope.
A man who wants his views to be something for everyone and ends up being nothing for anyone.
The pathetic stance on women cements it.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 02/10/2021 10:07

Well of course he doesn't believe it. But he is still publicly supporting it no matter what he thinks in private. Which is worse really

I agree

And I don’t think id vote for someone who says they are going to do something because i think there is a chance that he might not do it

Its like the frog and the scorpion all over again 🦂🐸

SailYourShips · 02/10/2021 10:46

Please do not vote for a party that refuses to define what a woman is for fear of offending the trans lobby.

As well as Keir, Emily and Starmer doing this, David Lammy has referred to women wanting to be called women and wanting access to women only places as dinosaurs.

Spoil your paper. Tell the Labour/Green/Lib Dems why when they call to your door.

Do not be a turkey voting for Christmas.

Pheebs2021 · 02/10/2021 11:50

I feel sad about this coming from a Labour strong hold but definitely not. I couldn't put my X for conservatives either.

DroopyClematis · 02/10/2021 12:00

I'm also politically homeless.

The thought of another term of this vacuous and cruel Tory government fills me with horror.

Libdems are unelectable right now.

Greens need to think about how the economy actually works instead of being idealist.

Labour ... what the bloody hell are they about, now?

Am thinking that a 'Loony' type party might be in with a chance.

Did one of those 'which party do I vote for?' quizzes. I was deemed to fit Plaid Cymru.
I live in the South East!

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 02/10/2021 12:36

Not a chance.

GreyCarpet · 02/10/2021 12:40

DroopyClematis

Totally agree.

Neither the Lib Dems, Greens nor Labour claim to know what a woman is right now. How can they legislate for us or protect us if they don't see us? And, more than that, they have openly said that they will dismantle the few rights we have that currently at least attempt to protect us and our interests.

But I'm terrified about the damage more Tory rule will do. Politically Homeless.

Andante57 · 02/10/2021 12:44

Yes, I’d vote for Monster Raving Loony party or Count Binface or whatever rather than spoil my ballot. (I’ve always wondered what would happen if one of them won a seat).

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 02/10/2021 13:49

I like the Loony Party - they have a great manifesto.

SailYourShips · 02/10/2021 13:56

Spoiling your ballot paper is a legitimate choice.

KezzabellaB · 02/10/2021 13:59

Absolutely not a snowballs chance in hell.

Andante57 · 02/10/2021 14:40

@SailYourShips

Spoiling your ballot paper is a legitimate choice.
Of course - as is not voting. I wonder if any party will ever make voting compulsory.
PrincessPaws · 02/10/2021 18:01

The thing about not voting is that get gets put down to voter apathy. At least by taking the time to vote but spoiling your paper you can't be put in the 'just couldn't be bothered' group

Itstheprinciple · 03/10/2021 06:34

Everyone saying you are politically homeless due to Labour's stance on trans rights, what would you like to see from another party on this issue that would allow you to vote for them?

WormYourHonour · 03/10/2021 06:58

Labour's stance on trans rights

Women's rights.

Can start by using the words Woman / Women and focusing on them and no one else. No more "Bodies with vaginas" or any other such nonsense.

Iggly · 03/10/2021 07:07

@Itstheprinciple

Well I don’t like the conservative stance either I have to say. The Tories aren’t proactively protecting women’s spaces (they’ve been in power since 2010 and I don’t feel more protected!!!)

The Tories are just being nasty about trans people - which gives the illusion that they care about women. Which they don’t.

The Labour conference hasn’t been that well covered in the press actually so it’s difficult for me to gauge where they are.

However the way the Tories have handled the pandemic and Brexit mean they’ll never get my vote. I did not vote for Brexit but I expected the government to make the best of it and they’ve not.
