Home alone without kids for the next few days. Going to treat myself to a few nice easy dinners/snacks from m&s. Am ordering from ocado so not going to the shop

What would people recommend? I don't shop there often!

@MrsSkylerWhite there’s always one“

You honestly think ready meals are nice?
We’ll, happy to be “one” then. Each to their own.

What you seem to have missed is that ready meals are ready to eat, thus involving no cooking.

If you like cooking every single meal, marvellous. I don't, and neither do many others. Hence M&S ready meals and all the other ready meals and takeaways.

gildalily · 25/08/2021 21:30

I can remember their parsnip & gruyere bake. Discontinued unfortunately. Not that that's any help to you OP.

AdditionalCharacter · 25/08/2021 21:32

Spinach and pesto past a salad is delicious, I usually get myself a couple of tubs of it when I'm on nightshift.

Garlic mushroom and spinach pizza
Samosas
Most of the tapas stuff
Marmite soft cheese spread, smothered on top of a giant crumpet and topped with grated cheese, popped in the over for 10 minutes.

Lemon and poppyseed muffin
Victoria sponge muffin

Bet the ready meals are nicer than your personality. [/quote]
Wrong poster?

Ooh I’d be getting the stone baked garlic breads, posh dogs, salmon and broccoli quiche and Colin the caterpillar cake for dessert. Strangely I thought the luxury chocolate eclair was a bit too sweet and sickly…and I normally love sweet stuff and desserts.

idontlikealdi · 25/08/2021 21:38

I dislike their curries / Thai and 'meals for one'. However I am always buying:

Deli stuff eg

Peri peri chicken slices
Lean corned beef
Most of the deli meats
Stuffed vine leaves
Chorizo roll things
Cracklings straws
Marinated garlic

Cheese scones from the bakery
Bromley apple turnovers

Giant mint chocolate buttons
American hard gums

Blackberry bramble gin in a tin

godmum56 · 25/08/2021 21:43

gastropub chicken kiev
cornish cruncher cheese biscuits
cheese straws, I think they are called cheese twists
Liqueur cherries in plain chocolate
lemon and dill sauce sachets

@MrsSkylerWhite

I honestly can’t understand why people think M&S processed food is good? Homemade is generally so much tastier. Packaged food is so bland.
If you have the knowledge and time to make Apple and Cinnamon hot cross buns, carrot swede and potato mash, yumnuts, mini whips and vanilla custard that taste as good as M&S then first of all well done and second please tell me how.
SuddenlySusan · 25/08/2021 21:44

You’ve it a few days - you’ll need breakfast! We recently bought this really thick bacon, four slices, with their crusty baguette. Not sure if you can order fresh bread, but if you can, you should.

I’d second the tapas, their calamari from the deli bit is amazing, as are the stuffed peppers.

Themeparklover · 25/08/2021 21:46

Don't think it is on ocado but the sweet potato and three bean mexican wrap is amazing from there

wheresmymojo · 25/08/2021 21:51

@MrsTerryPratchett

I cooked spatchcocked children with lemongrass and roasted courgette for dinner.

Good typo Grin

Pallisers · 25/08/2021 21:57

My children would go on holiday to the UK/Ireland purely for the M&S food. there is nothing as nice in the US. Years ago my mum actually posted me two chicken tikka massalas by airmail - I ate them too when they arrived.

  • Frozen croissants/pastries that you simply bake off
  • Tiramisu, the family sized one Blush Yes, you could make a better one from scratch but for one person it is too expensive to buy all the ingredients.
  • slow-cooked Italian-style beef ragu + a bag of tagliatelle or, even nicer, pappardelle. Unfortunately this is also a big box so I’m not sure how well the twice-cooked leftovers would keep.
  • mini Colins, infinitely superior to the big Colin
Brainstorm21 · 25/08/2021 22:10

Dry aged beef burgers, brioche burger buns, piri piri humous, coleslaw, salad.

Fillet steak, pepper sauce, red cabbage and apple, roast potatoes

Ace!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 25/08/2021 22:11

The chicken Thai green curry is lush ... much better than our takeaway.

User7458 · 25/08/2021 22:15

I suggested the slow cooked lamb which is really for 2 but it's quite small and I could manage the lot with some peas, in fact when DH and I have it he always moans about the size but the one for 4 is about £13. I have liked everything I have had from the slow cooked range.

Thedogisdrivingmemad · 25/08/2021 22:17

Gastropub chicken kiev
The Southern fried chicken fillets or burgers (healthier version of KFC!)
Bakery fresh granary loaf (not sold on Ocado though).
The tea bags in the gold box - best out there.

Thedogisdrivingmemad · 25/08/2021 22:19

Oh and the battered cod fishcakes with a pea puree layer.

amatsip · 25/08/2021 22:21

In the summer range they do the most amazing croque monsieur wreath.

dillyshaw · 25/08/2021 22:22

Anything from their gastro pub range
Stir fry meal deal
Pork in lemon and herb crust
Any of their curries

NoYOUbekind · 25/08/2021 22:22

Gastropub chicken Kievs are pretty much always in my freezer, likewise the dirty Cajun fries (although we add more jalapeños). Quite often have a tray of the fries with the salami pizza that comes in the black box, that's proper nice.

Am also addicted to their sliced pickled red onions in a jar, mmmmmm.

Definitely do deli one night, cheese, cheese straws, the cheese rollitos (cheese wrapped in chorizo slices which of course you could make for yourself but never will).

If they still have cherries, get them. Never disappointed with M&S cherries unlike all the other supermarkets.

saladcreamandegg · 25/08/2021 22:22

The salmon and soft cheese sandwich deli filler on a toasted bagel is sooooooo good!

Their Indian ready meals are better than takeaway food.

Walnut whips

Cocktail beetroot's (I like snacking on these!)

Basically everything!

I get the Italian 3 for £7 ready meals , they're so tasty compared to ready meals from any other supermarket.

I have very fond memories of eating this when pregnant. The absolute bollocks!

Tee20x · 25/08/2021 22:24

Tuscan sausage penne ready meal done in the oven with garlic bread.

SergeiL · 25/08/2021 22:25
