Just heard it on the radio. It knocked me for six.
He was only 59. One of the funniest men on telly and radio.
RIP Sean

Is anyone else having a Sean Lock appreciation evening?

Mycatcontrolsmymovements · 18/08/2021 19:32

Yes I am! Rewatching so much of his stuff and laughing.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 18/08/2021 19:35

He was so full of life and I can't really put it into words, but it makes me question what life really is all about. It is so random and awful

I've watched lots of his stuff today and it's made me laugh so hard. I've not heard of 15 storeys so will check it out. It sounds ace.

I watch endless clips of 8 out of 10 Cats/does Countdown on YouTube every night to help me sleep - Sean was just the best, I can't believe it. I had no idea he was ill, although there are a few more recent clips where his voice seemed strained.

He left as a captain in 2015 didn't he, Rob Beckett took over. But Carrot in a Box, being hand fed whelks by Miles Jupp, and him crying helplessly at Joe Wilkinson's poem about naming penises, will never not be funny.

RIP Sean, you were a funny, funny man.

BettyAndFrank · 18/08/2021 19:47

Terribly sad 😥

SecretKeeper1 · 18/08/2021 19:58

Working on a show like 8 out of 10 Cats must be one of the best jobs in the world!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 18/08/2021 20:48

Reading the tributes is so lovely!! Loved his sense of humour and style..
Carrot in the box Smile so sad

waterlego · 18/08/2021 21:02

I too have been watching some clips this evening and enjoying his genius. Just rewatched the ‘Rectum of the Year’ bit which was quite recent.

‘I knew I’d won when I heard three of the judges throwing up behind me. I thought: “I’ve got this in the bag”’ 😂

Ostryga · 18/08/2021 22:25

The tributes are so lovely. You just have to watch him with his fellow comedians and you can see they find him so hilarious.

Also watching his best bits. The naming penis poem and how he absolutely loses it is so so funny!

Unihorn · 18/08/2021 22:40

I relistened to the Parenting Hell podcast with him tonight, and they asked if he'd consider doing Strictly next year and he said no quite quickly, I wonder if he'd been ill for a while. This is one of the hardest TV deaths to hit me I think I absolutely loved him.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 18/08/2021 22:47

Lee Mack and Alan Davis in their tributes both said things along the lines of they knew he was ill/knew this day was coming. But he did it all quietly. Sad.

waterlego · 18/08/2021 22:57

Yes, I think his friends must have known for a while that he was ill and wasn’t going to get better. 😔

waterlego · 18/08/2021 22:58

Not sure if anyone has shared this yet on the thread- a wonderful tribute from Harry Hill which reflects how very popular Sean was within the industry.

ODFOx · 18/08/2021 23:21

Cancer? That's a challenging wank!
RIP Sean

SequinsandStiIettos · 19/08/2021 00:07

Just about to post that waterlego it made me cry, beautifully written.

Onthedunes · 19/08/2021 00:35

Brilliant comedian.
RIP Sean.

SequinsandStiIettos · 19/08/2021 02:31

hmmmm Enjoy.
You do have to stick with it as it is quirky, dark, morose at first glance Wink but there are some priceless lines. Still use blue rat as an in-joke now and Mark Lamarr's living statue line-up is the best thing I have seen in a sitcom ever (series 2 episode 4 /14.55 mins in)
Benedict Wong is also brilliant (as are co-writers Mark Lamarr and Martin Trenaman who both paid tribute on his twitter feed).

SequinsandStiIettos · 19/08/2021 02:32

their twitter feeds

dayswithaY · 19/08/2021 07:36

Sean was a genius, so effortlessly funny. I never understood why he wasn't on TV more. Instead, we get bitter old windbag Frankie Boyle with his own show.

wetpants · 19/08/2021 07:50

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

oh no!Sad he was such a funny & talented dude.

my favourite joke of his was is: "Did you know that sharks will only attack you if you are wet?" 🤣 on of the best opening lines ever.

RIP Sean, much love to your family, friends and all who'll miss youFlowers

I’m so glad to see this joke is someone else’s favourite too! It’s genius Grin

He was so funny and I always enjoyed watching him. A huge loss.

UrgentExitRequiredLOD · 19/08/2021 07:51

Bloody Jason Manford up to his attention seeking ways I see….RIP Sean.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 19/08/2021 09:04

Oh my god, Jason Manford has actually posted a screenshot of a text he sent to SL a few weeks ago (complete with date and time so we know he's not faking!), accompanied with sage advice about how you should check in with friends you haven't seen for a while - look how caring Jason Manford is everyone, what another great opportunity for Jason Manford to show everyone how caring he is!

What a bellend.

SpindleWhorl · 19/08/2021 09:13

Is there actually something wrong with Jason Manford?

Anyway, this thread is about the wonderful Sean Lock and comedic genius, and the sadness of his death. He left a legacy that we can treasure.

lobsterkiller · 19/08/2021 09:19

I thought it was really distasteful of JM. Also why the message to check in with friends and family. Sean wasn't depressed or alone. He had a loving family and many friends.

Anyway, he was a fabulous comic and seemed a top bloke. Gone way too soon.
