Just heard it on the radio. It knocked me for six.
He was only 59. One of the funniest men on telly and radio.
RIP Sean

@GameSetMatch

I wonder if his last wishes will be upheld ‘to have his ashes thrown in Piers Morgan’s eyes’
Did he say that?!Grin Love him. The world seems a shitter place today 😭
SunShinesBrightly · 18/08/2021 16:13

Yes, John Richardson, a genius.

Winemewhynot · 18/08/2021 16:13

@GameSetMatch haha piers has posted that quote on his insta as a tribute!

DoYouLikeOwls · 18/08/2021 16:23

PurpleVerbena

No one cares that you didn't know him.

Not the brightest thing to comment on a thread where people are talking about how sad it is and how he was liked by so many.

Such a shame; loved his dry sense of humour.

DeadButDelicious · 18/08/2021 16:50

“What would you like your obituary to say?”

“Ideally, nooooooo, whyyyyyy.”

Awful news. So very young. My thoughts are with this family and friends. Thanks

SquatBetty · 18/08/2021 16:54

He was really funny. So very sad, another good'un taken far too early.

Thanks for this .. I didn't get the joke because I didn't know what he was saying in the clip
SpindleWhorl · 18/08/2021 17:06

Ah bless him. He made us laugh. And think. He's left an amazing legacy.

CovidPassQuestion · 18/08/2021 17:11

Such a funny, funny man- you really got the impression he was like that all the time, even at home.
His poor family. My children are exactly the same ages spookily, and I cannot imagine what we'd do without their father.
RIP Sean Thanks

Guineapigbridge · 18/08/2021 17:17

Oh no! He was hilarious, I loved his sense of humour Sad

BlueThursday · 18/08/2021 17:23

A real loss to entertainment; I hope he knew how appreciated his comedy was (and will continue to be)

Mycatcontrolsmymovements · 18/08/2021 18:33

I have been watching the best bits of 8 out of 10 with him today. What a legend. He always made laugh out loud.

@PurpleVerbena if someone looked you up in the dictionary, the word would include the letters c, u and t, but it wouldn't be the word cute.

SundaySheAteChocolate · 18/08/2021 18:40

@Ponkypig282

This is really sad news. There's 3 children who have lost their Dad, his youngest is only 12. Heartbreaking.
I didn't realise they were so young. How heartbreaking.

Please people stop acknowledging this poster. This thread should be full of the people who loved his work.

Mycatcontrolsmymovements · 18/08/2021 18:48

If I get deleted, I get deleted. At least I used one of his jokes

AbsolutelyPatsy · 18/08/2021 18:51

it is so sad when people die and so many people are saying how great they were, i hope he knew how loved he was Sad

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

Such devastating news. We saw him live and loved watching him on all of his many TV shows. When the camera went to him, he would always pause for a moment before starting to talk, and it was in that moment that you just knew that 'this is going to be very funny'!

He was an elder statesman of comedy who naturally 'owned' a lot of the shows he was on, but he never exploited that in any way by taking over or denying the other (usually younger) comedians their own moment in the spotlight.

I always remember his little song about young kids' early career expectations that he jokingly claimed they used to sing at school - on the surface, it may have sounded like a sexist dig from him, but it was actually an astute observation deliberately embellished for comedic effect and to make the (feminist) point. It went something like:

When Johnny grows up, he'll be a soldier
When Jimmy grows up, he'll be a sailor
When Tommy grows up, he'll be a tailor
And all the girls will be wives!
Washing up and cooking dinner!
Washing up and cooking dinner!
Washing up and cooking dinner!
Wives!! Wives!! Wives!!

With him raising his voice, dancing and kicking his legs exuberantly in a ridiculous OTT way on the last line!

Yes, v funny and was highlighting the sexism
HmmmmmmInteresting · 18/08/2021 18:57

He always seemed to me to be someone with good morals ❤️

DedalusBloom · 18/08/2021 18:58

Sometimes Sean didn't have to do anything at all - his crying with laughter at Joe Wilkinson's penis poem makes me fall about laughing every time.

RIP you fucking genius.

ThorIsAGod · 18/08/2021 18:58

@BashfulClam

Sad news, i hope his family are ok.

He was genuinely funny and I still use the term ‘meat nappy’ that he used once about the little pad you get under raw meat in packets.

@BashfulClam we call cheese, 'milk gone off big time styley' as that's what he called it once!
FrippEnos · 18/08/2021 19:16

'You can't write tears Jimmy'

RIP Sean
