Just heard it on the radio. It knocked me for six.
He was only 59. One of the funniest men on telly and radio.

@PurpleVerbena You should really educate yourself and check out this very funny guy. He is a huge loss to the comedy world not to mention his friends and family. There was absolutely no need for your crass input on this thread.

Really sad news. I agree with others to watch 15 Storeys High, it’s brilliant.

So sad about this he was such a funny man and definitely shared my sense of humour. My heart breaks for his wife and kids. RIP Sean.

What is it with good comedians dying young

I know - when I heard the sombre news report on Radio 2 starting 'It has been confirmed that the comedian....' in the obvious way that you know how the sentence is going to end, I just assumed it was going to be somebody who was big in the 70s - no way did I expect it to be somebody under 60 and still (or until recently) working and regularly on TV.

Saw him last night on countdown, and it was such a shock when I heard. Lovely tributes from other comedians. Some great clips being shared now, I'd never seen the carrot box one before and it's hilarious!

Incredibly sad. A brilliantly funny man and an original thinker.

What?! I'm so sad to hear this, he was always one of my faves!

My instagram feed is full of tributes from other comedians (which is probably because I mainly follow comedians!) so he was clearly well loved by everyone he worked with. Very sad but lovely to see.

That is sad - I spent the summer bingeing Cats Does Countdown on Youtube and noticed that he must have had a health problem recently. Very sorry to hear that he didn't make it. He will be missed.

DP and I were watching an old episode of Cats does Countdown just last night and saying how much we love him. Such a creative and original sense of humour - he will be a great loss to the comedy world. It is also heartbreaking for his wife and children.
