Just heard it on the radio. It knocked me for six.
He was only 59. One of the funniest men on telly and radio.
RIP Sean

What a shock, a big favourite of mine too.
RIP Sean.

AdelindSchade · 18/08/2021 12:56

This is very upsetting. We liked him very much in this house.

Ostryga · 18/08/2021 12:59

YouTube have tons of his best bits. Have just been rewatching the Mr Jangles skit which still makes my hyperventilate with laughter.

Genius, genius man.

lollipoprainbow · 18/08/2021 13:01

@Felix125 same was gutted about Victoria Wood too.

AllyBama · 18/08/2021 13:03

He would have me in absolute fits of laughter, tears literally streaming down my face.

What a shock, what a terrible loss. I feel so sad for his family.

Cocolapew · 18/08/2021 13:04

Very sad news Sad

Ponkypig282 · 18/08/2021 13:05

This is really sad news. There's 3 children who have lost their Dad, his youngest is only 12. Heartbreaking.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 18/08/2021 13:05

So sorry to see this. I found him truly, side-splitting funny and also he was a secret crush.

How awful for his children and loved ones Sad.

RIP Sean.

spiderlight · 18/08/2021 13:12

This is so sad. He seemed like a genuinely lovely guy. His poor family :(

ReggaetonLente · 18/08/2021 13:14

He lived opposite my student house in London, he was really kind to us. Cancer is the biggest bastard.

mrsrichardsglasses · 18/08/2021 13:14

I was so shocked when DP came in earlier to tell me. We always listen to his audiobooks. RIP Sean and hope his poor family coping as well as they can be.

burritofan · 18/08/2021 13:15

No! I have (had?) such an enormous crush on him.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 18/08/2021 13:17

Saw this earlier and can't believe it Sad he was such a naturally funny guy and genuinely made me laugh out loud on his stand up and on the other shows he did. RIP Sean.

lborgia · 18/08/2021 13:17

Given that Sean Lock was so vocal about skin cancer, hope no one will mind me taking the chance to say please so check every six months for any changes in moles etc. Malignant melanoma very very rarely ever completely goes. One fucking cell goes awry, and it metastsises like the devil.

RIP, great man.

NotDavidTennant · 18/08/2021 13:24

A brilliant and funny man.

If you've never seen 15 Storeys High, search it out.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 18/08/2021 13:32

Such devastating news. We saw him live and loved watching him on all of his many TV shows. When the camera went to him, he would always pause for a moment before starting to talk, and it was in that moment that you just knew that 'this is going to be very funny'!

He was an elder statesman of comedy who naturally 'owned' a lot of the shows he was on, but he never exploited that in any way by taking over or denying the other (usually younger) comedians their own moment in the spotlight.

I always remember his little song about young kids' early career expectations that he jokingly claimed they used to sing at school - on the surface, it may have sounded like a sexist dig from him, but it was actually an astute observation deliberately embellished for comedic effect and to make the (feminist) point. It went something like:

When Johnny grows up, he'll be a soldier
When Jimmy grows up, he'll be a sailor
When Tommy grows up, he'll be a tailor
And all the girls will be wives!
Washing up and cooking dinner!
Washing up and cooking dinner!
Washing up and cooking dinner!
Wives!! Wives!! Wives!!

With him raising his voice, dancing and kicking his legs exuberantly in a ridiculous OTT way on the last line!

aerosocks · 18/08/2021 13:43

Oh how sad. I always enjoyed his appearances on QI.

Oohstickyouyourmummatoo · 18/08/2021 13:44

This is so sad and I have shed a tear.
I remember moving into a new house in an area I'd never even heard of before with just the clothes on my back and my baby after fleeing abuse and watching 8 out of 10 cats on loop and he made me laugh so much.
I'd actually not realised the positive impact that he had on me until hearing about his death.

BrozTito · 18/08/2021 13:49

What is it with good comedians dying young

longtompot · 18/08/2021 13:55

Such sad news. Loved him as one of the captains on 8 out of 10 cats does countdown. Never knew quite what was going to come out of his mouth. Such a young age too.

Saucery · 18/08/2021 14:11

I’m not a Laugh Til I Cry person, but there was one set piece on Cats Countdown where he was making cocktails with ingredients for every letter of the alphabet and I couldn’t breathe by the end of it. We still ask each other if we want Whelks in our drinks Grin

FurForksSake · 18/08/2021 14:14
wives! wives! wives!

Such a loss.

Chachachawoo · 18/08/2021 14:14

Really very sad.
A funny and smart man.
His poor family

Antwerpen · 18/08/2021 14:18

So very sad. Thank you for all the laughter Sean.

JoeGrundyWasMyRoleModel · 18/08/2021 14:19

Gutted. He was a lovely man and very approachable. He had a season ticket in the pleb seats at Chelsea and was always laughing and joking with those around him.
