Surely diplomatic immunity only "works" if on official business at the time.

Does Pizza Express Woking come under that?

Viviennemary · 16/08/2021 10:42

I dont think folk will take to the streets in protest over this. Andrew is a boring old man now and it all happened years ago. Sorry if that sounds cynical but it will all be made to go away. Andrew will be out of sight and that will be the end of it. IMHO of course.

SpindleWhorl · 16/08/2021 10:58

Ghislaine Maxwell's trial could pour petrol on the fire as well. That seems to have gone quiet.

Hasn't it just? But its time will come, and I think she has to make some hard choices about protecting certain VIPs and how long she wants to live in jail for.

Jail is not some 'easy prison' for her. From wiki: Maxwell's attorneys have regularly protested about the conditions of her confinement. These include being kept awake by a light shined in her eyes every fifteen minutes to deter the chances of her committing suicide, and being denied a sleep mask

Although this is her remand jail, a substantial sentence would also see her placed in a high security setting, probably on suicide watch.

Again from wiki, In April 2021, US District Judge Alison Nathan ruled that Maxwell will face two separate trials, one for the sex trafficking charges and another for perjury. In May 2021, Nathan delayed the trial to 29 November 2021 after Maxwell's defence lawyers successfully argued that the sex trafficking charges added in March 2021 gave them insufficient time to investigate the new charges and prepare for trial.

So the fireworks start in November, only 3 months away. Maxwell's got a lot of thinking to do about the Royal Family's silence and what Andrew's attitude means for her.

She will turn 60 this year. Does she really want to die in jail? That's her dilemma.

I think there's a lot going on behind the scenes. Maxwell fought long and hard to have the trial delayed so they could get their defence together.

She has just had a bid to throw out the sex trafficing indictments along the lines of what happened to Bill Cosby. I don't really understand why she would think this but here's an article on it.

It seems to hinge on this..
Judge Nathan said Ms Maxwell had not been promised she would not be prosecuted, as the Supreme Court said Mr Cosby had been

OhGiveUp · 16/08/2021 12:03

Ghislaine Maxwell surely has to realise by now that she's been dumped from a great height.
Epstein is dead. PA first denies it, then hides behind his mother's skirt.
I think when it comes to trial that Ghislaine will really start slinging the shit.
What has she to lose? It's a case of everyone for themselves now.

Viviennemary · 16/08/2021 12:19

I bet there will be a deal done with her. You watch.

Roussette · 16/08/2021 13:15

I wouldn't be surprised at all but there is huge interest in the case and a long list of victims, so we don't know for sure..

Doing a deal might implicate Andrew.

OhGiveUp · 16/08/2021 13:22

I think she won't care who she implicates if it either reduces her sentence or sets her free @Roussette which is what I meant by everyone for themselves now.
She has to realise that that is exactly what PA is doing, saving his own fat arse while throwing hers under a bus.

If she starts talking she's dead too many powerful people. You offer a big enough bribe she Will be offed
diddl · 16/08/2021 13:31

I wonder how much/if anything PA knew about the whole operation though.

SpindleWhorl · 16/08/2021 13:32

Maxwell has a deal to offer - implicatory information.

Andrew has what exactly to offer? He has no deal to make without looking like a massive pervy lying revolting bastard, given he's previously denied it all and lived the life of riley on the public purse.

Which wouldn't matter ... except he's the Duke of York, and the Queen's favourite child. So it's huge. And rightly so.

Personally I'd like to see him give up his place in the line of succession over this.

justasking111 · 16/08/2021 13:35

Very little I suspect even clever men were led by their dicks
SpindleWhorl · 16/08/2021 13:37

If I were Maxwell, I'd have already left detailed statements with my lawyers and a sealed copy with a trusted investigative journalist to be used in the event of my death or 'suicide'.

Roussette · 16/08/2021 13:40

OhGiveUp Oh yes, I agree. I think all this time in a NY jail has probably focussed her mind somewhat !

PA and her have been firm friends for decades, she met him when she was at Uni in the UK, she has been to Sandringham, Buckingham Palace, Balmoral, parties, Ascot, Palm Beach, Epstein's island, holidays together in Thailand.. last time he saw her was in 2019. A friend of hers said they are 'very very close'.

How far that loyalty lies for either of them, who knows.

Roussette · 16/08/2021 13:51

I agree Spindle and as has been said before... you can bet your bottom dollar, he will have been advised to cut contact with Epstein by the palace... but I doubt he listens to anyone.

GullyGull · 16/08/2021 14:03

Does anyone feel sorry for PAs daughters? I mean he tried to use one of them as an alibi, that's got to sting a bit.

Suspect they are being gaslighted by both PA and Fergie on an epic scale with all this.

SpindleWhorl · 16/08/2021 14:10

Yeah, I agree about the gaslighting. Beatrice reportedly told him to do the Maitlis interview so she must surely have believed him, to have ever countenanced his doing that? 'Prove your innocence, papa!'

Maybe she foolishly offered him up an alibi? Who knows. But I'd say she's bought into the family narrative hook, line and sinker.

Not sure about Eugenie.

Blossomtoes · 16/08/2021 14:18

He’s so far down it now it makes no difference. The Telegraph is openly speculating about who will get his military honorary ranks this morning. With Harry gone, there will be a lot of them to fill.

Roussette · 16/08/2021 14:23

I know little about B&E and faintly sympathised with them, but to think that Beatrice advised him to do the interview... they must all be as deluded as each other. I just sort of thought the girls were sensible types... but maybe I got that wrong, there was a hoo-hah when Beatrice took 18 holidays in one year or something, so perhaps they're all of the same ilk.

Yes but it will hurt him, strike at the core of his identity, who he thinks he is. It will strip him of his dignity, his sense of self. Payback.
SpindleWhorl · 16/08/2021 14:29

@Rousette, I can't do links on this device but this is from the New York Post at the time,

Prince Andrew’s daughter Beatrice is “in tears” over the fallout from her father’s disastrous TV interview — because she helped push for the sit-down, a new report says.

SpindleWhorl · 16/08/2021 14:32

There are press mentions of Beatrice, Sarah and a private secretary suggesting the 'sit down'. They must have all been watching too much West Wing.

They should have watched the Ben Swain interview from The Thick Of It instead. Especially the blinking.

Blossomtoes · 16/08/2021 14:32

Being stripped of his military honours and having no place in public life will do that quite adequately. Remember the alleged uniform row before the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral? Not being able to wear any uniform anywhere will really sting.

Roussette · 16/08/2021 14:34

Exactly Spindle.

Out of all the royals, he really is the most obnoxious entitled one. He's always been the same.

🤣😂

I remember watching it and me and my best friend were whatsapping each other during it... I was saying this is a complete car crash isn't it... and there were lots of whatsapps with us saying at the same time "he's lying on that bit, look at him"
