Yes.
There is reporting on it but not the outrage.

Well... I'm outraged!

Blossomtoes · 15/08/2021 18:12

I’m not because they’ll still get the same amount of money and they’ll just have to cut their spending elsewhere - like the rest of us.

I’m just looking forward to this all being over with him stripped of everything that matters to him and being forced to keep a very low profile. I wonder how many of his mates will stick by him? He’ll be lucky to find anyone to play golf with when this is done.

SerendipityJane · 15/08/2021 18:18

We pay the monarchy to represent his country not defend their legal issues that absolutely go against what this country represents

So vote them out,

Oh, no, you can't.

Heriditary privilege is the antithesis of an equal and diverse society.

Roussette · 15/08/2021 18:21

Sorry but that's untrue.

Taken from .royal gov

Official expenditure met by the total Sovereign Grant in 2020-21 amounted to £87.5 million (2019-20: £69.4 million) an increase of £18.1 million (26%) compared to the previous year.

Blossomtoes · 15/08/2021 18:23

What does that prove @Roussette? Other than that they got a huge rise, which I understood was to cover the (long overdue) refurbishment of Buckingham Palace?

BeaucoupFish · 15/08/2021 18:24

Does anybody ever think ‘Fergie’ maybe a mumsnet poster or is that too far fetched ?

Maireas · 15/08/2021 18:28

I don't think Ferguson could help but give herself away. She's anything but low key and circumspect.Hmm

Roussette · 15/08/2021 18:30

Blossom you have insisted they get the same amount of money every year, and they'll just cut their spending.

I only wanted to illustrate that no, they don't get the same amount every year, that's all.

Blossomtoes · 15/08/2021 18:36

@Roussette

Blossom you have insisted they get the same amount of money every year, and they'll just cut their spending.

I haven’t insisted anything. I just think your conjecture that the Sovereign Grant would be increased to cover legal fees or an out of court settlement is unlikely to be correct. 🤷‍♀️
Roussette · 15/08/2021 18:49

This is a pointless conversation.

You said 'they'll get the same amount of money' and 'the pot of money is the same'.

Neither of us have any idea how this will be paid for...

I think we should just leave it there

Roussette · 15/08/2021 18:50

I haven't insisted that the Sovereign Grant will pay for it.

As I have said twice on this thread, it will probably be from the Duchy of Lancaster funds.

Blossomtoes · 15/08/2021 18:57

@Roussette

I haven't insisted that the Sovereign Grant will pay for it.

As I have said twice on this thread, it will probably be from the Duchy of Lancaster funds.

I didn’t say you’d insisted anything. You bloody love that word, don’t you? There’s been no insistence by anyone! 🤷‍♀️
Roussette · 15/08/2021 18:59

No I dont love that word lol

If someone says something more than once, it seems like an apt word, but just for you I will avoid using it from this moment on Grin

Blossomtoes · 15/08/2021 19:02

Thank you 😉

KidneyBeans · 15/08/2021 21:08

I'm not sure that the photo does show that he was socialising with her.

It does show that he had met her, certainly.

Met her at a party at the home of his friends during a social occasion then Confused

Pixxie7 · 15/08/2021 21:43

I think there would be a national outcry if the taxpayer contributed to his defence in anyway, so we probably won’t find out either way.

SpindleWhorl · 16/08/2021 07:07

Daily Mirror website this morning is reporting on something that PA 'may' do. I wouldn't say they're the most reliable of sources, and they do like to shit-stir about the monarchy, but possible diplomatic immunity is an issue that has previously been mentioned, I recall.

Prince Andrew’s legal team may try to get his rape accuser’s claim thrown out of court by claiming he had diplomatic immunity.

In 2001, when Virginia Giuffre claims Andrew raped her, he was a trade envoy.

The position comes with diplomatic immunity, which US lawyers believe could let the prince avoid a court case.

Spencer Kuvin, who represents several of paedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s victims, told the Mirror: “Ms Giuffre’s lawyers have huge barriers to overcome to get her lawsuit anywhere near a jury.

“If the Duke engages in the case at all, his legal team will undoubtedly file a motion to dismiss the complaint on numerous different grounds. For sure, they would argue diplomatic immunity. They would have a strong case.”

What is this lawyer trying to do here? Challenge PA not to use and hide behind diplomatic immunity? Is it even true he would have it?

The Mirror isn't mincing its words, either, is it? '...when Virginia Giuffre claims Andrew raped her' is strong stuff.

Roussette · 16/08/2021 07:21

Indeed.

And I read somewhere that papers cannot be served on him (this is imminent) whilst he is physically with the Queen. Some law or other doesn't allow this.

An initial court hearing is on 13th Sept. and the papers have to be served by then (apparently). Under the Hague Convention the serving must satisfy UK law even though the suit has been filed in the US.

Looks like the Queen is stuck with him for a few weeks yet then!

SerendipityJane · 16/08/2021 07:37

The UK allowing someone to evade serious charges abroad by asserting diplomatic immunity would pretty much cement our status as a third world nation. and won't do our existing diplomats abroad any favours.
either.

Maireas · 16/08/2021 07:48

Unfortunately, Serendipity Jane it happened with Anne Sacoolas, the US woman who evaded justice after Harry Dunn was killed in a hit and run. She claimed diplomatic immunity. It is much abused by many nations.

GullyGull · 16/08/2021 08:14

I wonder if there will be women's rights protests and marches in London about this? it seems very quiet on the activism front. Trafficking is such an important social issue and given the high profile of PA, I would have thought there would have been a lot more vocal anger about this?

Or maybe it's waiting in the wings...

What do you think?

SpindleWhorl · 16/08/2021 08:39

I think it's difficult to know what to protest about until there is some sort of response from PA or a statement from either PA or HMQ / Royal Family about what is actually happening.

As long as PA says nothing, it's all just guesswork - and he's exploiting that.

I think there could be a gradual groundswell of hostile public opinion against the silence and inaction of HMQ/RF, as there was after Diana's death. They were all ensconced up at Balmoral then too, weren't they?

I think the tabloids might have a view on how far they want to whip people up, and are waiting for some indication of PA's likely reaction.

Viviennemary · 16/08/2021 09:15

If Andrew gets away keeping it out of court due to diplomatic immunity America has set the bar with the Sacoolas case.

LitPearl · 16/08/2021 09:20

Wow, he might be able to wriggle out of a trial with that defense but how could he look worse? He will have to keep a profile do low he's in a hole under the ground.

GullyGull · 16/08/2021 10:19

Right, so protests could kick off if he hides behind diplomatic immunity.

Ghislaine Maxwell's trial could pour petrol on the fire as well. That seems to have gone quiet.
